Ashville Fire Department Plan for Coming Activities

ASHVILLE — Plans for open home were made at the meeting of the Ashville Fire Department held Wednesday night at the Fire Hall. The event will be held June 2 to display the new fire truck and station 2 at Stow.

Carmen Blair was appointed chairman in charge of advance ticket sales for recreation rides for the annual Gala Days, July 11, 12, and 13.

The department voted to attend the Frewsourg Old Home Week parade on June 29 and the Findley Lake Firemen's Fair on Aug. 17. The men plan to march in the Memorial Day parade at Ashville.

Life Membership in PTA Presented to Mrs. Classon

FALCONER—Mrs. Fred Classon was presented a life membership in the Parent Teachers Assn. at the final meeting of the year of the Falconer High School P.T.A., held Monday evening at the school. The presentation was made by Charles Walker.

Second Graders Present Program At Lake wood

LAKEWOOD—An assembly pro­gram was given by Mrs. Margaret Holmstrom's second grade at the Lakewood Branch of Southwestern Central School Friday morning.

Kathleen Harrison welcomed the parents, teachers and students. De­votions and the flag salute were led by Rebecca Schroth. Dianne Holdsworth was the announcer.

The class presented an imagina­tive story, "The Brownies and the Children" with Donna Carlson as storyteller. The brownies were: Charles Berg, Alan Brink, Robert Chamberlin, Richard Cole, Ronald Davidson, Douglas Fortuin, Geof­frey Germany, Charles Himes, Robert Johnson, Michael Lesher, Dudley Onderdonk, 3d, Thomas Short, and Robert Starr. The chil­dren were: Lynda Carlson, Rox-anne Duink, Kathleen Harrison, Dianne Holdsworth, Bonna Peiffer, Linda Sarvis, Rebecca Schroth, Bernice Stratton and Terry Wright.

The scenery was made under the direction of Mrs. Edith Ingleson of the Art Department and the mu­sic was supervised by Gerald Smith of the Music Department. The room mothers, Mrs. Arthur Carlson and Mrs. Andrew Johnson, made the brownie costumes.

E. von Reyn, high school principal dis­cussed school activities and also reported on a recent poll taken in the school regarding the type of recreation program the students are interested in. Mrs. Richard Pond and Frank Raimondo, report­ed on the recreation program of the past year.

Valerie Mattison presented a flute solo accompanied by Cleone Vollentine and Donna Malm and Gary Erickson sang a duet accom­panied by Miss Vollentine. The evening's program included dem­onstrations by the boys of Nicholas Fedorka's gym class in tumbling and work on the trampoline and the parallel bars; a dress review by members of the home econom­ics classes and square dancing by the girls of the seventh and eighth grades, under the direction of Mr. Crusino.

Refreshments were served in the cafeteria following the meeting by Mrs. Harold Hills, chairman, as­sisted by Mrs. Rangwald Stornes, Mrs. Margaret Alexander and Mrs. Julius Engstrom.

Falconer Girl Named For Moving Up Day

FALCONER—Mary Lou Darling, 212 East Main Street, has been named one of the co-chairmen of Moving Up Day at State Univer­sity Teachers College, Geneseo, on Wednesday. Carolyn Lincoln, Can-andaigua, is on the committee with Miss Darling.

Pupils to Give Annual Concert

Art Exhibit Also Planned at Falconer

FALCONER—The annual spring concert and art exhibit presented by the music and art departments of Falconer Central High School will take place next Tuesday at 8:15 P.M.

The 48-piece High School orches­tra, directed by Walton Huestis, will open the program. The Girls Glee Club and the Senior Choir, directed *by Gerald Heglund, will sing several selections.

The concert will close with mu­sic by the 58-piece Concert Band directed by Mr. Huestis and as­sisted by Gene Sutliff, cadet teach­er from the State University Teachers College, Fredonia. This band was awarded an A rating at the NYSSMA Festival, held at Perry on May U.

The art exhibit will be open to the public preceding the concert, during intermission and immedi­ately following the concert. Miss Norma Burow and Richard Nos-trant, instructors in the art and industrial arts departments, will conduct this exhibit in the school cafeteria.

The public is invited to attend this exhibit and concert Tickets may be purchased from any mem­ber of the music organizations or at the door.

Frews burg HNS Names 120 Club Committee

FREWSBURG—The Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church met May 8 in the Church Hall with the president, Robert McLaughin, conducting the business meeting.

The committee for this meeting was William Seekins and Edward Michalski. A committee named to conduct the 120 Club included Charles Barone, Otto Guli, Ray Sittinger, Michael Lindvay, Joseph Werneth, Robert McLaughlin, Wil­liam Seekins, Joseph Lombardo, Robert Letro, Joseph Dallas, Ed­ward Michalski, Meh/in Heeden, William Swanson and Verne Ander­son.

A Communion breakfast was held Sunday with Edward Michalski and William Seekins in charge of ar­rangements. All members are to make a report on the 120 Club by tonight.

The Holy Name Society and the Altar and Rosary Society packed and mailed gifts for servicemen in the Carroll Service Group Wednes­day evening.

Thet next business and social meeting of the Holy Name Society will be held at 8 P.M. June 5. Committee members will be Robert McLaughlin and Charles Barone.

The next Holy Name Communion breakfast will be held June 9 with Charles Barone and Robert Mc­Laughlin as the committee in charge. •

Grand Matron Plans Visit To County OES

Mrs. Elizabeth B. Pierce, Cass-ville, most worthy grand matron of the 150,000 members of the Or­der of the Eastern Star of New York State, accompanied by the grand patron, Robert W. Cauld-well, East Williston, L. I., and the staff of grand officers, will visit Chautauqua District on Monday. The meeting will take place at the Masonic Hall, Westfield, at 8 P.M. and will be preceded by a banquet at 6:30 P.M. at St. Peter's Episco­pal ChuTch House.

Mrs. Pierce, who has been active in Eastern Star work for a number of years is a member and past worthy matron of Kismet Chapter 217, O.E.S., Bridgewater. She served as district deputy grand matron of Lewis-Oneida in 1943. Since her election as grand matron, she has constituted three Eastern Star chapters, and has helped to organize two new con­stellations of Junior Stars. She has held four dedications of chapter rooms.

Bemus Point Youth Nominated for Medal

BEMUS POINT — Julian B. Wright, 208 Lakeside Drive, a stu­dent at Niagara University, has been named one of the nominees for the "Niagara Medal."

The medal is awarded annually to a member of the Senior Class who has displayed the qualities of high character, personality, loyalty and success in studies during his four year career at the university. The names of the winners will be announced at the annual Moving Up Day exorcises Friday.

Other nominees are Robert J. Kellick, Niagara Falls, and Wil­liam G. Meier, Flushing.

West Ellicott Couple Plan Silver Event

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S.%Mc-Cann, 214 Allegheny Avenue, West Ellicott, will be honored for their 25th wedding anniversary with open house at their home from 2 to 5 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday. The affair is being given by their children.

Three Members of Norolec Elected District Officers

CELORON—Three members of Norolec Rebekah Lodge have been elected officers of Rebekah Dis­trict Number Five.

Announcement was made at a meeting of the lodge held recently at the Lodge Home, that Miss Clara Savaree had been named district deputy president; Mrs. Marguerite Morley, secretary; and Mrs. Helen Carpenter, treasurer.

Noble Grand Mrs. Martha Ben­son presided at the session, and named Mrs. Maud Gill, Chaplain, chairman of arrangements for a memorial service, to be held at the May 23 meeting. Assisting will be Mrs. Olive Jones and Mrs. Al­berta Peterson.

Mrs. Gill will also make plans for a "Go to Church Sunday", when members will attend services at the Celoron Methodist Church, in a group.

Mrs. Norma Carlson was ap­pointed to place flags on the

graves of deceased members. Mrs. Astrid Martinson was elect­

ed delegate to the Lockport Home Association annual meeting;, to be held in September, with Mrs. Norma Carlson as proxy delegate.

Mrs. Marguerite Morley will represent the Lodge at the State Assembly, to be held in Buffalo June 19-24.

It was announced that the 1958 State Assembly will be held at Saranac Lake, and a donation to the Saranac Assembly Committee was approved.

A letter oi thanks was received from Adolph Carlson for the birth­day party held in his honor follow­ing the April 25 meeting.

A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs. Helen Carpenter, for the donation of a rug for the Lodge Home.
