VORTECH PUMPSTATIONS

Today’s fast-track building methods and the need for off-site

fabrication have resulted in an increased need for packaged

pump stations.

With this in mind, Broadway are continuously monitoring

current legislation and building standard requirements to

enable us to supply products that not only comply but are

innovative. This in turn makes the whole procedure of ordering

a pump station through to installation very simple and cost

effective for our customers.

These advanced packages are manufactured then assembled in

our own factory and delivered to site ready to be placed in suitable

excavation and connected to the relevant drainage pipework.

Our GRP tanks can be buried to depths of 10m and more and can

be made with special resins to offer very good resistance to

corrosive chemicals and effluent fluids.

Vortech™ polyethylene packaged pump stations are an innovative

solution to situations where it is preferable or essential to keep civil

work and installation to a minimum. The stations are moulded from

polyethylene and are factory assembled with all in-tank fittings

fitted before dispatch. Their lightweight polyethylene construction

means that they are easily transportable to site and allow ease and

speed of installation.

Polyethylene pump stations have long been recognised as having

superior fluid handling properties. With a choice of single or dual

pumps these packaged pump stations can now be used anywhere

from single households to residential developments, schools,

shopping centres and caravan parks.

The pumps are mounted on a curved base, which ensures that the

tanks remain silt and sludge free, with no square corners to

encourage solids build-up. The single or dual pumps are cast iron

or stainless steel and pipework can be a choice of stainless

steel ductile iron, Polyethylene or sch.80 PVC for increased

corrosion resistance.

Valves are epoxy coated cast iron or brass and can be mounted

either in the tank or in a separate valve chamber with overpumping

connection as required. Level control can be by ultrasonics, float

switches or probes and a wide choice on control panels and

enclosures completes the package.

A full sewers for adoption package complying with 5th edition can

be offered to meet the specific needs of your water authority.

Our GRP pump package is the first to have received W.R.C.

approval in recognition of the quality and system design.

PUMPS AND PUMP ARRANGEMENTS

The pump is a key part of the packaged system. Broadway has

selected a range of pumps which suit almost any application.

The tanks have been designed to incorporate single, twin or even

three pumps with a wide range of impellers including vortex,

channel, open, multichannel or single, macerator, cutter and the

highly efficient new Flygt ‘N’ multipurpose Impeller.

which is all pre-assembled to the

pipework. Alternatively the pumps

can be free standing.

If a customer prefers to incorporate

a specific type of pump into the

package, Broadway is able to meet

CONTROL PANELS AND ANCILLARY ITEMS

Control panels are available in a multitude of combinations and

range from a simple one pump starter to a full sewers for adoption

control station. Our most popular model which can be either single

or dual pump and contains isolator, hand/off/auto switch, pump run

and trip lamps, ammeter and hour meter and high level alarm signal.

Kiosks are available in GRP or mild steel. These are fully

weatherproof and come in a variety of sizes. They have a plywood

backboard for mounting the equipment or control panel and have

a Yale lock as standard. Optional extras include a vision panel,

heater and a generator catflap.

Manhole covers are manufactured from mild steel and heavily

galvanised to BS EN 124 1994. They are available for loadings

ranging from light pedestrian use to heavy traffic areas. They can

be either single or double lid, with or without hinges. They can also

be supplied with recessed tops for block paving or screed finishes.

They also have the option of lockable covers.

Ultrasonic level measurement is the ideal method of controlling

pump operation in a typical wet well installation. In its simplest

form, it can operate a single pump and raise a high level alarm.

However, it can also be used to run a complete pumping station of

2 or 3 pumps and be programmed to carry out a vast number of

options, including pump down on a daily basis to remove sludge

build-up and to monitor performance.

BROADWAY MANUFACTURING STANDARDS - A COMMITMENT TO QUALITY

Our GRP tanks are manufactured to BS 4994 under a strict

quality control system with checks at all stages of construction.

The chop-hoop filament winding process produces not only

circumferential strength but also strong longitudinal strength. This

method means that shells can be cut for manholes and pipework

without any undue loss in strength and ensures that deep burial

depths can be safely accommodated. After a long evaluation

process, our package pump systems have been awarded the

coveted WRC approval which signifies compliance with BS EN

752-6 for Pump Stations and Sewers for Adoption 5th edition.

AFTER SALES AND SERVICE

Having invested in a pump package

from Broadway, you will be concerned

that it performs satisfactorily for a long

time. With this in mind Broadway offer

a maintenance contract to ensure that

your equipment is regularly checked

and overhauled. Visits can be yearly, 6-

monthly or at any other interval to suit

your particular needs. They will include

a 20-point check on pumps, panels and

equipment and can include a jetdown

and desludge of the pump chamber. A

full report is then issued. A wide range

of spares is available from Broadway

and our suppliers will despatch spares

overnight to ensure your equipment is

rapidly repaired. All repairs are carried

out by our approved repair centres.

service vans to carry out all

on-site service and repair work.

BUBBLE AERATION SYSTEMS FOR EFFICIENT OXYGEN TRANSFER

Broadway offers a wide range of efficient aeration

products fulfilling a variety of oxygen requirements in

wastewater applications. Oxygen is transferred most

efficiently with pressurised air, which is diffused through

highly porous discs of EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Di-

Monomer) or ceramic, mounted on pipes attached to the

tank floor. A large quantity of fine bubbles is released

through these discs. The discs offer highly efficient

oxygen transfer with low head losses and uniform air

distribution throughout the entire system.

SOLUTIONS FOR PERFECT MIXING RESULTS

Mixers are used in a wide range of mixing duties such as

solids suspension, liquid blending and de-stratification.

Submersible mixers have a compact design, which

together with our installation methods makes them easy

to install both in new and existing tanks.

Unlike their dry-mounted counterparts, sub-mersible

mixers provide unlimited freedom of positioning and

orientation. By utilising this freedom, the mixer jet is

allowed to develop and create efficient mixing of the

entire volume.

Compact mixers are made of stainless steel and provide

a cost-efficient alternative for most mixing applications.

The slow speed, large diameter mixers will gently mix

large volumes with remarkably low power consumption.

BROADWAY STEADY FLOW CONTROLLER

The Broadway Steady Flow Controller (BSFC) has been designed

for use where a flow restriction into a sewer has been specified.

Without a ‘BSFC’ large storage tanks are required to store sewage

or surface water that can only be pumped away at a maximum flow

rate of ‘x’.

As the tank empties the static head increases and the pumped flow

reduces; therefore the flow rate is only pumping at max ‘x’ when

the tank is full. This reduction of flow in some cases can be as

much as 60% reduction in flow rate.

The ‘BSFC’ is designed to automatically control the pumps to run

at flow rate ‘x’ via a variable speed drive regardless of the static

head which can reduce the storage volume of the tank by more

than 25%.

Large sums of money can be saved in excavation costs and also

the cost of the tank.
