The pumpout check valve provides ameans of preventing flow up the coiledtubing while allowing circulation orwashing operations during run-in. Thecheck valve insert can then be pumpedout leaving a full opening bore for pro-duction or stimulation operations. Inaddition, the check valve provides aball seat, which allows a hydraulicpacker to be set prior to pumpout.

The pumpout check valve is avail-able in several versions to meet mostoperational requirements.

Pumpout check valveThe standard pumpout check valve isavailable in standard tool ODs. It isprimarily used in conjunction withpackers or other hydraulically actuatedtools and is available with most com-mon threads.

Slimline pumpout check valveThe slimline pumpout check valve isfrequently used as a stand-alone valvein coiled tubing hangoffs and recomple-tions. It is available in all coiled tubingsizes and wall thicknesses. The stan-dard connection for the slimline versionis the roll-on connection.

Wash nozzleBoth versions of pumpout check valvescan be furnished with a wash nozzle onthe end of the pumpout cartridge to aidin washing operations during run-in.

OperationThe pumpout check valve is attached tothe bottom of the coiled tubing. Prior torun-in, the pumpout pressure value isadjusted by varying the number andtype of shear screws installed inthe tool.At final depth, a ball is circulated to aseat on the check valve. Applied pumppressure creates the differential pres-sure required to shear the screws,whichpumps the check valve cartridge out ofthe housing. If run below a hydrauli-cally set packer, the packer is set priorto pumping out the check valve.
