Pulp and Paper Technology at AIT:Sustainable Education and Research

Asia is now meeting its paper require-ments through a combination of indigenous resources and technology. But Asian raw materials – wood, recycled paper and water – are different from those in Europe and North America. This calls for a need to know more about natural resources in Asia, apart from developing techno- logy to process them economically into paper products of desired specifi-cations.

Pulp and Paper Technology (PPT) at AIT has been contributing to the ever changing technological and manpower demands of the regional paper and allied industry.

Since its inception over a decade ago, 196 students from 12 Asian countries have completed their Ph.D. or Master’s degree at PPT and are now contributing to the rapidly growing Asian paper industry.

PPT has launched “On-site Technical Development Programs” for the paper and paper allied industry in 2010.

PPT offers technical upgrade for field-level employees, which will help mills to improve their technical competency, apart from boosting the confidence of shop floor personnel. PPT helps identify sales opportuni-ties, thereby adding the flavour of “technical selling” in the paper allied industry.
