area applied for.

STRATEGY

Page 9: Pulangi Hydro Power PES_Mendoza E

PULWAT provides the seedling requirement per hectarewhile, labor and maintenance activities as stipulated in thecontract will be undertaken by the farmer withcorresponding cost.

Monitoring and Inspection- every 3 months (90 days) after plantation

establishment, 1st , 2nd & 3rd maintenance passes;- every 4 months (120 days) for 4th, 5th & 6th

maintenance passes - every 5 months for the 7th & 8th maintenance passes.

90 % survival rate is required for the establishedplantations. If mortality occurs, replanting is required.

Contract ends after the 8th maintenance pass which isequivalent to 3 years but will still be evaluated by a thirdparty if the plantation conforms with the standardrequirement.

OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGIES FOR

SUSTAINABLE WATERSHED MANAGEMENT

OBJECTIVES STRATEGIES

1. Maintain & increase the forestcover of all watershed areas underNPC’s jurisdiction and watershedareas with NPC generating plants

Continuous tree planting activities

using the family and communityapproach concept

Continuous production of seedlingsfor dispersal (forest & fruit)

Continuous monitoring & provision oftechnical assistance to thecommunity/project beneficiaries on themaintenance of established plantation

Conduct regular coordination meetingwith LGU officials (Local & Barangaylevel)

Page 13: Pulangi Hydro Power PES_Mendoza E

2.Protect the remainingresources of the watersheds

Strengthen multi-sectoral forest protectionespecially with stakeholders (Community,LGU, GA’s & NGO’s)

Formulation/ Implementation of aComprehensive Plan which includes ForestProtection Plan involving the community andother stakeholders to sustain resources inconformance with the Local Land Use Plan

Construction of satellite nurseries at thefield to complement the seedling productionof NPC while providing additional source ofincome for the community/individual

Profiling/monitoring of watershedoccupants

Intensive IEC/ Environmental AwarenessCampaign

WATERSHED MANAGEMENT

OBJECTIVES STRATEGIES

3. Rehabilitate eroded areasand/or stabilize slopes alongwaterways and reservoirs

Identify/assess areas first which will

contribute much to the soil erosionproblem in the watershed before projectimplementation and verification withland owner

Conduct soil analysis to determine soilfertility and species suitability at theidentified area for projectimplementation (started for Plan 4projects)

Encouraged the adoption of SWCmeasures/contour farming on slopingagricultural areas

Encouraged the application of croprotation system on agricultural areas

Riverbank stabilization throughvegetative/structural measures
