PROUD LEGACYOur heritage dates back to 1872 with the founding of the Central Colorado Improvement Company, four years before Colorado became a state. Rail production started in 1881 as the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I), helping to build the American west by providing affordable steel and iron to the western territories and the nation’s expanding rail systems.

WHO WE AREEVRAZ Rocky Mountain Steel employs about 1,300 team members at its Pueblo facility. We are the largest producer of rail in North America, manufacturing more than 580,000 tons of rail annually. Our steelmaking operation melts more than 1.25 million tons of recycled metal scrap in its electric arc furnace each year to make more than 300 different grades of steel. The facility also manufactures seamless pipe for the energy sector, as well as wire rod and coiled reinforcing bar for construction, automotive and specialty industries.

INVESTMENT AND INNOVATIONEVRAZ has invested over $100 million in the Pueblo facility over the last several years, with upgrades to the rail mill, steelmaking and the addition of an advanced product technology center. Our most recent innovation – Apex™ G2 next generation rail – was designed to provide Class I railroads with a best-in-class life cycle cost advantage through superior wear, rolling contact fatigue, fracture toughness, ductility and weldability performance.

EVRAZ Rocky Mountain Steel team members earn average wages that are 45 percent higher than the median Pueblo County income. We are directly responsible for more than $400 million of local economic development each year through employee wages and benefits, taxes, and money spent on utilities, procurement and other business expenditures.

EVRAZ also contributes to the community through our Reading Sparks® children’s literacy program. In addition to funding a literacy program for first through third graders at Pueblo city schools, we are actively engaged with Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC).

EVRAZ is committed to environmental stewardship. As the largest scrap metal recycler in Colorado, EVRAZ Rocky Mountain Steel melts the equivalent of more than one million cars in its electric arc furnace every year. In addition, nearly 100 percent of the dust from its furnace operations is captured and re-purposed for use in a variety of products including fertilizers and rubber tire compounds.
