PCF’s growth strategy to build density in our home delivery footprint, expand distribution capabilities, and develop new lines of busi-ness, is designed to mitigate a revenue gap we are experiencing due to declining news-paper circulation and the closure of Contact Center operations in the fourth quarter.

Recently we have taken additional steps to invigorate and execute the growth strategy that include:

1. Launching a new advertising campaign, new sales materials, and a refreshed website to highlight the Delivery Services, Technology and Consulting Solutions we offer the print media industry

2. Re-directing key resources to bolster our sales development efforts and generate growth

3. Intensifying efforts to seek out and assess opportunities for Parcel Delivery Services expansion

We expect these steps to build upon the recent growth activities we already have underway, such as those listed below.

Our recent expansion with the New York Daily News, which includes significant growth in both traditional home delivery and single copy, is the largest growth spurt we’ve had so far in 2013. In fact, by the end of the sum-mer, we will have doubled our home delivery volume with this client.

The launch of Globe Direct will soon grow to over 230,000 weekly copies in ten additional

Cultivating Technology Solutions takes a bit of preparation and our sales team, enhanced with cross functional support, is gearing up for meetings with prospec-tive clients over the next several weeks. We believe there is great potential in the Technology Solutions line of business and, though RSI is our only client so far, their satisfaction is evidenced by a glowing testimonial they offered. As the industry looks for ways to increase rev-enue and gain efficiencies within their own operations, our ability to provide these leading-edge services comes just in time.

We have some significant opportunities in the pipe-line and we expect to make a major PDS growth announcement in the next couple of weeks.

Good things are happening and we need more. The long term financial health of the company depends on it. It will take continued collaboration, flexibility and determination by all of us to realize our growth strategy and I have no doubt we will be successful.

Lesson Learned: As the various props were added the entire room saw what was coming... things started falling and help was needed. Robin quickly capi-talized on the reality of the overloaded DCM by asking the question, “How can a manager be successful that has so many responsibilities?” The answer came in unison from the 20 or so meeting at-tendee’s: DELEGATE! The presentation ended with group work that required DCMs in a Business Manager role to create a “playbook” that assigned specific tasks to other team members in order to ensure success. Both DCMs and Assistant Distribu-tion Managers continue to work on the playbooks in order to achieve all the goals represented by the three legs of the stool. This task requires continued refinement due to changing challenges.

Making it Better: Thank you to Mike Barlow and his team for their continued efforts to meet the needs of our ever changing business. One thing will never change; the need for improved perfor-mance from the entire PCF team which will lead to improved results. The lesson here is simple: Work with your manager to improve a specific skill, a list of tasks or even a simple process change. It may have been easier if Robin and her team just left things the way they are... but that would not make it better. This link will provide you a peek of more of the presentation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn84yYhNUbY

The Challenge: Trying to describe exactly what “a day in the life” of a Distribution Cen-ter Manager (DCM) working at PCF entails. From the title we can easily deduce that it is a management position and they work in a distribution center; sounds easy... or not!

The Reality: The role of DCM has been described by many as the most challenging and most rewarding position in the organization. There is no such thing as a “typical day” at any of our 76 plant locations. In fact, the key to being a successful DCM is the ability to utilize a variety of skills at any given moment to meet the current challenge. Days are long, to-do lists are enormous and each and every success that takes place can be attrib-uted to the DCM and his or her entire team.

A Real Life Study: This past June, Regional Manager Robin Capone co-hosted a meet-ing that included the entire management staff of our N New York & W New England Divi-sion. The meeting agenda followed the typical three-legged stool methodology that has become the standard throughout the entire Distribution family. Specific focus on service, efficiencies and employee development continue to be a driving factor in the organiza-tion’s continued success.

With the help of DCM Stephen Fletcher, Robin was able to model the true nature of the Distribution Manager Position. What does that to-do list look like? Take a look at the picture below to get an idea....

Each day, the successful DCM is required to use a variety of skills and be ready to change focus to meet oncoming operational needs. During the presentation, Steve had to wear a variety of hats that portrayed his management abili-ties. Starting with a hat to assure a safe work environment, he was then handed a coach’s hat, a policeman’s cap representing security, a cone to help with communication, a magnify-ing glass to improve his investiga-tory abilities (and keep an eye on

the numbers), a whistle to keep his team on task, a captain’s hat to signify leadership, a graduation cap reflecting the need to teach and train his team, a delivery bag filled with papers that needed immediate delivery, a hat to represent the “business manager think-ing” role that is key to team success. To top off the “typical” day, Robin capped off her presentation by dousing Steve with water to represent a bad weather day, adding to all of the other challenges. Congratula-tions to Steve for his attempt to balance all of the to-do’s!

To support our growth strategy, we recently launched a new ad campaign within the print media industry titled “Welcome to the Rebirth of Print Distribution.” The campaign is focused on the Delivery Services, Technology Solutions and Consulting Solutions we offer the print media industry to help them turn distribution challenges into business opportunities. The ads are appearing in industry publications such as Editor & Publisher, Local Media Today and News & Technology and PubAux (Publishers Auxiliary). Beyond print advertising, the Business Development Team for Delivery Services and Technology Solutions - Joe Neuhof, VP Business Development and Tom Dressler, VP Growth & Development, and Kevin Durant, Director Business Development – have incorporated some new marketing brochures and materials into their toolkit as they work to cultivate relationships and grow these businesses. The look, feel and messaging of our ads, marketing materials, the PCFCorp.com website, as well as our evolving Facebook and LinkedIn pages are delib-erately coordinated and integrated to represent PCF in the marketplace with the consistency and refinement appropriate to our position as a long-standing, proven leader in print distribution services. 2013 Q2 WINNERS

The Elmsford distribution center delivers an average of 80,000 copies on Saturday, so inserting and staging the sections of the paper in advance is critical to efficient, on-time Satur-day deliveries. Over the last couple of months the Elmsford staff started a partnership with ARC of Westchester to staff its weekly inserting operation. ARC of Westchester is an organiza-tion serving individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities with innovative, effective programs and services designed to foster independence, productivity and partici-pation in community life.

Since April, the Elmsford operation welcomes a crew of about 20 individuals from ARC of Westchester each week to staff the Friday inserting operation. The results have exceeded everyone’s expectations. Beyond helping the community, the inserting has been near perfect, lifting the overall morale of DSPs and the staff alike. Michael Gabriel, Elmsford’s Distribution Center Manager says,

“There is a great sense of personal satisfaction we get that goes way beyond the terrific work

that is getting done.”

A Couple of weeks ago, Brian Sargent, Parcel Delivery Service (PDS) Driver from the Worcester, MA operation was stopped for a random roadside inspec-tion by the Department of Transportation while out delivering his Fed Ex Ground Route. Such inspections can include a review of the required paperwork for both the driver and the vehicle, as well as a visual inspection of the vehicle itself for safe and secure operating condition. This was PCF’s first random inspection of this nature and we passed at 100%. Following this excellent result, Brian and PCF received special recognition from our PDS partner, FedEx Ground, for this outstanding achievement. Steve Millington, Director- PDS congratulated Brian, along with Scott Cafarelli, PDS Manager – Worcester, and Erik Frederick, PDS Regional Service Manager for this outstanding accomplishment.
