Smithfield Music has had an active 2019 season. It was a great night of live music at Smithfield Little Theatre when the Mike Aiken Band took the stage at Smithfield Little Theatre on Saturday Sept. 21. Mike and Amy have long been friends of Smithfield Music and it was so good to have them back in town. They were joined by Jordan Ponzi on bass and Ron Fetner and Bill Gurley played a stage full of guitars, mandolins and a fiddle. Lots of talent in that crowd. On Aug. 10, Nashville singer/songwriter Tim Buppert returned to Smithfield for a house concert before a sellout crowd. Smithfield Music thanks Bobby Little for providing refreshments.

IWAL mourns the passing of longtime supporter and former Board of Directors member Bob Robertson. Robertson died July 30 at his home in Smithfield with his family by his side. He lived an incredibly full life and leaves a legacy marked by dedicated military and government service to his country; a storied career in international business; a passion for and commitment to his art; and, most important to him, an absolute devotion to his wife Nonnie and their family. Robertson moved to Smithfield in 1991 and began a second career as an artist, spending hours every day creating art in various mediums, most notably watercolors and reverse painting on glass. He was dedicated to fostering the arts in the region, for a time leading the Isle of Wight Arts League, helping to build it into a vibrant presence in Smithfield.
