RC Cosmo Club News and Notes Meeting – July 23, 2018

Black Hills Advocate – Presented by Jenny Schmidt

Our program today dealt with an organization in our community that assists individuals with their health care by

helping with various medical services such as paperwork assistance, organization, and planning services.

Paperwork assistance can be helping with health insurance, or financial benefits. Some of the information dealing

with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Administration benefits, disability situations and more. Help can

be given in applying to various assistance programs to help reduce monthly expenses.

In financial assistance, resources can be reviewed, a strategic plan can be developed to determine individual

limitations, processing of routine monthly bills, reconcile bank statements, and even help in negotiating the reduction

of various expenses.

Another area of the work involves estate planning, advance directives such as power of attorney for health care,

financial management as well as living wills.

Jenny is the owner of the company and was started after her experience in working with the health care field for

over 25 years. Most recently as the Director of Independent Living at Westhills Village Retirement Community.

Jenny works with a staff of three other individuals.

President Gloria Gunn recognized fellow 60-year Cosmos with plaques.

Frank Short and Dick Kahler have been members of our club since 1958.

That is quite an accomplishment. We have been fortunate to have their

expertise for such a length of time.

Thank you for your service to our club and our community.

On the following page there are some photos taken at the International Convention in KC this past

weekend.

Our teens were the only teens in attendance and received special recognition at the Installation and Awards

Banquet held on Saturday, July 28th.

Karl Merbach was duly installed as one of the Club incoming Presidents.

Gloria Gunn received two bannerettes for the Big “C” and the Friendship Builder Award.

Congratulations! Go to John Duffield for being named the International Rookie of the Year.

Note: All Cosmos should have received two messages from Tracy Miller, Past Executive Dirrctor, concerning some of

the action taken at the convention. One was a by-law change and the other dealt with the Executive Director position. If

you, by chance, didn’t receive them please let a fellow member know and have them forward the copies to you.
