Publication Title Search: Browse all Issues of a Journal

Example: Browse among all issues of a single journal title indexed by one or more databases in

the WCC Single Search discovery service using the Publication Title Search, in this example,

“journal of nursing education”:

1. Access the Erwin Library homepage at https://www.waynecc.edu/library/

2. Click the Publication Title Search tab to access this search option

3. Into the Publication Search box under the Publication Title Search tab enter the journal title

for which you wish to locate all of the published issues available in a WCC Single Search

discovery service database with Full Text Access; enter the search with no punctuation, in this

example, “journal of nursing education”

4. Click the Search button beside the Publication Title Search box

5. After clicking on the Publication Title Search button, if you are a remote user of the Erwin

Library online resources (that is, a person using any computer outside of the Erwin Library’s

workstations) at the Remote Location Database Access prompt page:

a. Enter your complete Erwin Library patron barcode number (Using all fourteen digits on

the barcode sticker with no spaces between any of the numbers) into the Login box

b. Click the Login button

6. Select the entry for your desired journal title from the Search Results list:

a. Note: For the title Journal of Nursing Education, several Full Text Access database links

are available, in this example from either the CINAHL Plus with Full Text database, or a

ProQuest database

c. Click one of the Full Text Access links, usually the one offering coverage through the

present (or most currently available issue), in this example the Career & Technical

Education Database (ProQuest) link offering issues published from 12/01/1962 to the

present has been selected

7. At the Publication Information page move your cursor to the Browse specific issues list at

the bottom of the page:

a. Note: You may click the Show format availability link to open a call-out menu containing

an exact listing of the journal issues available in Full Text (HTML format) and/or Full text-

PDF (a PDF file “picture” of the print format as published), as well as the issues available

only in Citation Format

b. Click on the “+” box beside a publication range of years, then the “+” box beside a single

year, and so on, until you reach an individual issues list of links

c. Click on the exact publication date link (usually including extended issue information in

addition to the issue date, such as volume or number) of the specific issue you wish to

browse

8. At the Browse issue page:

a. Note: You may click the Preview link to the right of the title for each entry in the page to

open a call-out menu containing an Abstract (summary) of the article from the issue, so

you may judge whether or not it is of further interest for you to read

b. Click a full text link at the bottom of an entry to view an entire article from the issue

9. At the Individual article page:

a. Click the Full text tab to read the article in HTML format

b. Or, click the Full text – PDF link to open a viewing window to read the article in the original

printed format

c. Or, click the Abstract/Details tab and, scroll down to the Details (of indexing) area, and

at the bottom of that area locate, Copy and later Paste the article Permalink found in the

Document URL field

d. Or, click the Cite link on the right side of the article page to open the Cite dialogue box

from which you may select, Copy and later Paste a citation for this article to use in a

References or Bibliography page

10. Retrieve the article permalink:

a. Click the Abstract/Details tab

b. From the Details (indexing) area scroll down to the bottom of the page

c. Locate the Document URL field, highlight and Copy the URL in that field to use as the

article permalink which you may Paste into your assignment or paper

11. Retrieve the article citation:

a. Locate and click the Cite link on the right side of the article page to open a Cite dialogue

box

b. From the Citation style drop-down menu list of citation styles, select a document citation

format that your instructor has indicated you should use, and click the Change button

c. Highlight, Copy and later Paste the displayed article citation into an assignment in the

“References”, “Works Cited” or “Bibliography” page of your research paper

d. Click the Done button to exit the Cite dialogue box

e. Remember to verify and/or revise this retrieved citation for accuracy against a citation

guide for the format (MLA or APA, etc.) that you need to use for your particular

assignment or paper (Suggested Guide: Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab)
