Brothers,

Another year in Phi Gamma Del-ta is flying by us and what a terrific year it has been. We have received a stellar pledge class of 23, taken first place in Delta Gamma’s Anchor Splash philanthropy, taken first in Sweetheart Sing, Sig Ep’s Queen of Hearts Softball Tournament and are once again a wet house. Most recent-ly we had Rave off campus to keep the house clean, but it was still touted as the best halloween party on the street.

GRADUATE RELATIONS UPDATEBrothers,

Pig Dinner is quickly approaching and I hope everyone is as excited as we are.

This semester my focus has been with updating as much information as I can so that we can bring back people who have lost contact with the chapter and graduate brothers.

I have broken down a list of lost brothers into three-year intervals and I have forwarded this list to people who graduated within those years.

If you did not receive the list cor-responding to your class and you would like to help find these brothers let me know.

This year Pig Dinner will be held at Wokonda Club and we hope it will

be our best Pig Dinner yet. Even if you haven’t come to Pig Dinner before please consider coming back and kissing the pig once again.

The best part about Pig Dinner is to see those with whom you shared your college life with and the best way to find and bring these brothers back is for their class brothers to con-tact them. Take it upon yourself to call a brother and ask him if he is coming to Pig Dinner!

If you have any questions about Pig Dinner please contact me at [email protected].

RUSH UPDATEBrothers,

Rush this year went extremely well. We signed 23 pledges, the third largest class on Greek Street next to Phi Delt and Sig Ep. Our pledges have already knocked out the 7-time champion (Sig Ep) in Sweetheart Sing and helped us take first place in Anchor Splash. The pledges have seemed to enjoy our wet status, as they have been mak-ing many girls the same way on the weekends.

The key ingredients for this suc-cessful rush were the fact that we had 3 FIJI orientation leaders, 5 PMACs, and a new rush scholarship. This summer I developed The Persis-tent Leader Scholarship, our scholar-ship for incoming freshmen, and was

able to finance it through a dona-tion to the house from Cliff Larson. We gave out four $250 and eight $125 scholarships. Applicants were chosen according to an application that theay submitted online and a follow-up interview. Out of the 41 applicants, 13 were personally in-terviewed and 28 had phone inter-views. We ended up signing three

of the $250 scholarship recipients, along with two of the $125 scholar-ship recipients during rush. Needless to say, this scholarship, coupled with our Orientation Leaders and PMACs helped us with crucial early relation-ships before the freshmen even start-ed classes.

If you have any further questions about rush or The Persistent Leader Scholarship, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

Until then, I look forward to seeing you all at Pig Dinner!

PLEDGE EDUCATOR UPDATEBrothers,

For those of who don’t know me, my name is Joe Frake. I am a sopho-more LPS and International Rela-tions major and this past semester was elected to be pledge educa-tor for the new Alpha Iota pledge class. Frank Peitz did a great job with Rush this year, and we now have 23 pledges.

One major change this year with the pledge ed program is the length of the education period. Interna-tionals allowed us to keep the length of our pledge semester, but is mov-ing all chapters toward an 8-week education program. As pledge edu-cator, I would continue to meet with

the pledges weekly, but after 8 weeks the education from the Purple Pilgrim ends.

We are currently about six weeks into the program and it is go-ing extremely well. The pledges, coordinated by Jake Anderson, took first place in Sweetheart Sing for the first time in seven years, and this past Saturday also took first place in Delta Gamma’s Anchor Splash.

As a whole, I feel that the pledg-es are bonding well, and are getting to know all the actives through social events, intramurals, and meetings. I have full confidence that they will make great actives in the future.

If you have any questions about whats going on with the pledges email [email protected].

TREASURER UPDATEBrothers,

As many of you know, over the past few years the Delta Iota Chap-ter has been having trouble with finances. We have been working very hard with graduates to get this problem under control and turned around. While this is an ever-going process, we have finally gotten to a point where we can start investing back into the house!

The past couple years we have had to focus a lot of attention on the debt that was built of the years, and now that we have controls in place and the framework for success in the future, we are able to turn our focus towards bettering the chapter and chapter house! Just this past

summer and the first few months of the semester we have been able to purchase, with the help of the Delta Iota House Corporation, a new 72” TV, new speakers and stereo sys-tem, keyless lock for the side door, new grill and a new shed for all of our tools. Although these are great additions, they are miniscule on the

scope of what we are trying to do with the rest of the house.

Currently, we are in the planning process to renovate most or all of the bathrooms in the house during winter break! More information about this will be out by Pig Dinner.

It has been a great year so far for the FIJI House and I can only see it getting even better from here! I hope to see you all during Pig Din-ner this year.

If you wish to get in contact with me email [email protected].

Greetings Brothers,

This has been a year of continued success for the Delta Iota chapter. As you heard from our Rush Chair, Frank Peitz, rush this year went extremely well and we brought in a number of quality pledges. Part of this can be attributed to our chapter’s pres-ence on campus during Orientation and Welcome Weekend. We had three Orientation Leaders this past summer, four PMACs, Peer Mentor Academic Consultant, and two mem-bers of PAB, Peer Advisory Board. Also many of the guys in the house stepped up and volunteered to help the freshman move into their dorms.

Along with the outstanding lead-ers that we put forth for orientation, Delta Iota also was the recipient of some awards during the annual Awards Report. To date we have

received two honorable mentions, for the Coon Plaque and the Condon Cup. The Coon Plaque is awarded to the chapter with the most out-standing publication, and the Con-don Cup is awarded to the chapter that shows greatest overall improve-ment over the course of a year. Our greatest award was receiving 2nd place in the Crowder Cup, which is given to the most outstanding faculty advisor. For those of you that don’t know, Lou Ann Simpson is our advisor and has been doing a phenomenal job for this chapter for a number of years. It is great to see her receiv-ing some acclamations for all the outstanding work that she does day-in and day-out.

We are still waiting to hear on a couple of other awards from In-

ternationals, but either way it has been a great year for the Delta Iota chapter and this is momentum that we hope to continue in the following year as new leaders in the house be-gin to take over. For more info email [email protected].

CORRESPONDING SECRETARY UPDATE

BROFILESA glimpse into the lives of a few of this years pldeges.

About Me: My name is Matt Du-val. I am a freshman actuarial science major at Drake Univer-sity. I was involved in basket-ball and track in high school and look forward to the various in-tramural sports during college.

Favorite FIJI memory: When we made Sig Ep cry by winning Sweetheart Sing. Then beating them again in Anchor Splash. What I have gained from my FIJI experience: I have experienced different activities I never would have pictured myself doing, like sweetheart sing and anchor splash.

My plans for the future: I hope to graduate from Drake University and find a job I enjoy.

About me: My name is Alex Neumann, born 12/16/90 in the small town of Norwalk, WI. I consider myself to be the greatest that ever lived, okay so actually I don’t. I’m not that cocky. But I still con-sider myself a stand up who always does the right thing and even more importantly the cool thing. I am the ultimate brosef.

Favorite FIJI memory: Since I’m only a Pledge I have not had a lot of memories up to this point. Having said that I’d say my best was Bid Day. On that day I be-came a part of something bigger than myself, a part of a group of brothers tighter than any group I’ve ever known. I became a part of the greatest Fraternity on Earth!

What I have gained from my FIJI experi-ence: My FIJI experience has truly taught me the value of friendship. I’ve always had close friends that will remain close for life. But never before have I found a large group of guys that I can confi-dently call brothers without hesitation. I have learned that with the help of these extremely close friends, life can become so much easier.

My plans for the future: After college, I plan on moving back near my hometown in western Wisconsin. Hopefully, I can find a good paying job there and set down some roots. I’d like to eventually become a family man. You know, basically I want the American Dream. But after becoming a brother in FIJI, I know that in whatever I choose to do Phi Gamma Delta will for-ever remain a major part of my life.

About me: My name is Caleb War-ner and I’m from Rockford, IL. I live on a farm and I raise chickens. My high school was so cool we had “drive your tractor to school day.” I love to play basketball, football, and xbox. Off on a tangent, I have two different col-ored eyes. I am the oldest of six kids.

Favorite FIJI memory: My favorite memory so far would have to be brotherhood. The highlight of the night was when Michael Starling and I made a sandwich while we were dancing with two girls in between. I don’t know if he remembers that.

What I have gained from my FIJI expe-rience: I have gained 70 or so great guys to relax with, compete with and hopefully learn something from.

My plans for the future: On Friday I plan to have a great time at rave. Long term, I hope to complete phar-macy school and someday open my own pharmacy.

The Drake FIJI would like to congratulate Victor Cedeno

on becoming a United States citizen this summer!
