BATTERIES INCLUDED INDUCTION AND INSTALLATION CEREMONY
On Oct.27, 2016, the city of Las Vegas Batteries Included teen leadership program held its first induction and installation ceremony. Over 300 teens were in attendance as their family and friends witnessed them take the
oath of leadership. The induction and installation ceremony was established to emphasize and highlight the accomplishment of becoming a member and to impress upon the officers being installed the seriousness of their undertaking. This ceremony causes teens to take a deeper seeded responsibility whether they are a member at large,
or hold a position of ambassador, education liaison, president, vice-president, secretary, sergeant at arms, historian or treasurer. For many teens, this solidifies them being a part
of something, making a difference, and belonging for the first time. Batteries Included has become a brother and sisterhood of devout leaders that are building community to make life better.
BATTERIES INCLUDED COLLEGE TOUR: SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY, DIXIE STATE COLLEGE AND UNLVYes, We Can!
This was the resounding message of 60 high school juniors and seniors that participated in Batteries Included’s semi-annual college tour to Southern Utah University and Dixie State College.
Many teens had no hope in attending school away from home, but after touring the campuses, meeting former Batteries Included members attending the colleges, and learning about financial assistance opportunities; the teens were empowered, and beyond excited to begin taking their next step
towards higher e d u c a t i o n . sixteen teens that attended the tour were accepted into Dixie State, and
six were accepted into Southern Utah on the spot. The teens had moments of reflection as they had an opportunity to express the impact of attending college tours such as this.

On Nov. 21, 2016 the Rancho High School chapter of the city of Las Vegas’ Batteries Included Teen Council participated in the annual Ward 5 senior turkeys for Thanksgiving event which is also a part of the chapter’s Adopt a Senior initiative. The teens used their day out of school to assist senior citizens residing in senior living developments with clean-up in their homes, delivery of their Thanksgiving meals and companionship for the day. The teens expressed how enlightening the
experience was and are currently planning a birthday party for one of the seniors who will be 100 years old in February. Over 500 families
were given meals for the Thanksgiving holiday thanks to the donation of turkeys and all the fixings provided by Ward 5 city Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow and staff.
On Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, members of the Cimarron Rose Batteries Included teen leadership program participated in a community clean-up event sponsored by The Outside Las Vegas Foundation. The participating Batteries Included teen council members worked in partnership with 65 other volunteers picking up trash along Las Vegas Boulevard – beginning at Heritage Park and continuing down to Owens Avenue.
Nov. 28-Dec. 15. 2016 Batteries Included hosted a competitive book drive to support the need for books at the Harbor. On Dec. 19, 2016 the final tally was in, and Rancho High School takes home the win! The Harbor has been donated hundreds of books courtesy of caring high school English teachers, and students
that wish to lift as they climb. Batteries Included wishes the Harbor and all the families it will meet the needs of much success.
During the months of November and part of December, Batteries Included hosted “Warm for the Winter,” an outreach that assisted over 140 homeless and less fortunate teens with coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. Way to go Batteries Included! During the month of December, Batteries Included logged 112 hours of community service, volunteering for Opportunity Village’s Magical Forest. The teens assisted children with disabilities in activities, cleaned and were able to enjoy the magical forest experience themselves. Now that…is putting in work!
BATTERIES INCLUDED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The Batteries Included teen leadership program prides itself on the development of youth in the capacity of leadership, education, career-development, health, and
safety. To ensure teens have the tools they need to be successful, a plethora of training and development opportunities are offered throughout
the year. The teens had the pleasure of participating in the Youth and Law Enforcement Empowerment Academy which was a nine-week program designed to expose teens to law enforcement and the career opportunities that are available. The program taught teens how to make informed decisions using critical thinking skills, focused on character building and leadership competency. The teens visited the police academy, the Clark County Coroner’s Office and the Clark County Detention Center. The next training and development opportunity was facilitated by the city’s own organizational health unit, True Colors. True Colors was hosted just for the officers in the program; they learned about the different personalities they each posses, and

BATTERIES INCLUDED FUN…FUN…FUN 2016 HOLIDAY MIXER
The city of Las Vegas’ Batteries Included teen leadership program hosted its annual Holiday Mixer at the Jackpot Bar and Grill. This social development activity is an opportunity to break away from the
hard work put in by the teens as they close the year out. More than 80 teens attended this year’s Batteries Included holiday mixer. The
teens had the opportunity to eat amazing authentic Hawaiian food and American cuisine. The teens had their time to showcase their inner stardom through karaoke, as well as play “minute to win it” games for prizes, socialize with their peers and adult advisors. The atmosphere was amazing. This event was a huge success! Teens are already talking about next year’s mixer.
