Towpath Trail Cont.

Over the last six months, the Dept of Public Works have taken the lead with the implementation of the ERP system. Everyone should be commended on their patience with the system, as well as their acceptance of the change in the way everyday tasks are being completed. The last of the group to go live was the Facilities dispatchers, Electronic Techs and the Sign Shop. As this is being written, the Trades will be brought into the system over the next couple of weeks, as well. This is the first phase of implementation, with much more work to be done.

Work Orders in the Sanitary – House, Jet, Construction, CCTV, Pump Station departments, Print Shop, Fleet, Road

and Bridge, and Facilities are now all being entered, processed and maintained in the new ERP/EAM system. These implementations have been both in the browser and mobile tablets. The EAM implementation team will continue to be available for on-going support, updates to the system, as well as rolling out new functionality. Consumable inventory, OpenCad drawings, additional detail and build out to the facility structure, are just a few items in process.

Everyone will start hearing about the other modules, specifically some of the HR Functionality going “Live” in the next few months as well that you will be involved in (TimeClocks, Open Enrollment, WFM, among others).

The Public Works project team poses for a photo at the Towpath Trail Stage 1 groundbreaking ceremony.

Construction crews set the W. 7th St. bridge as part of the Towpath Trail Stage 3 project.

Dear Colleagues,

I hope everyone was able to enjoy time with family and friends over the summer. Greater Cleveland had endless opportunities which showcase the many treasures in our region, including the annual Veteran’s Memorial Bridge and subway tour on August 18th. This year we recognized the 100th anniversary of the bridge’s construction. The success of this event would not be possible without our volunteers. A special thank you to the DPW volunteers for their time, energy, and support.

Another gem is the Towpath Trail which will eventually stretch 100 miles from New Philadelphia to Downtown Cleveland. DPW has been busy managing and constructing the last six miles connecting to Downtown. If you haven’t had the opportunity to explore the trail, I would encourage you to do so. The upcoming cool weather and changing foliage will make it an ideal time to walk, run or bike on the trail.

Our Facilities Division has been diligently working to deliver several projects including; the Harvard Road Maintenance Facility, the Virgil E. Brown Building roof replacement and sky light rehabilitation, the Old Courthouse roof replacement and the conversion of the former jail kitchen to inmate housing in the Justice Center.

In keeping up with the fast-paced changes in technology, the EAM work order module has now been implemented in most sections. I am confident that this will increase efficiency and productivity across the department. Overall the various DPW sections have adapted well to the new system.

As we enter the holiday season, I encourage you to reflect on the year and be proud of all we have accomplished as a team. I have enjoyed meeting with all of you at my chats with the director this year and look forward to continuing the conversation in 2019.

Cuyahoga County Archives

In the SPOTLIGHT

HR Update: Open Enrollment

On Thursday, September 6, 2018 along with dignitaries and an official ribbon cutting ceremony, Cuyahoga County celebrated the grand opening of the new county archives building located at 3951 Perkins Avenue. The new archives building culminates several years of planning and consolidation of county resources. The county moved out of the Rhodes and Sanford Houses on Franklin Boulevard located in Ohio City to occupy the new archives building. Documents were transferred from Rhodes and Sanford and at least four additional buildings to consolidate records into one central archives. Congrats to Deb Shaw, Dr. Judith Cetina, John Myers, Jim Fischer, and Christine Petro on their hard work to bring the project to fruition.

It’s that time of year again and we have exciting news! Open Enrollment is coming and Project DRIVE’s NEW and IMPROVED MyHR system will host the 2019 benefits enrollment season.

Before each of us starts the Open Enrollment Process we will need to set up our own new MyHR account in the ERP.

Early October we will receive information on how to login to verify and update our personal information, including name, address, emergency contacts, phone number, email address, and related items.

Once this step is complete we will be ready for Open Enrollment to begin. Although the look and feel of the benefit enrollment system is changing, it will still be easy to navigate. All Information will be at your fingertips.

The NEW & IMPROVED MyHR will be used for much more than

Open Enrollment! It’s a place where employees can review and ensure their information is updated accurately, quickly, and without the hassle of paperwork! Eventually there will be no more paper forms!

Beginning on October 22 through November 5, you will select your benefits for 2019 and enter your dependent and beneficiary information (Including the name, date of birth and Social Security Number).

To learn more about the different benefit plans that are available and updates on the County’s enhanced Wellness program, meetings will be held within the Department of Public Works at the following locations, dates and times. Please coordinate through your supervisor or manager to attend and learn more. This will help us become more informed about our options as we begin the Open Enrollment Process.

STAFF UPDATES

Upcoming Events

How many times have you wanted to take a vacation but thought, I just have too much work to do? How many times have you complained how exhausted you are but without doing anything about it? How many times have you been frustrated by the long hours you are working, but without giving yourself a rest?

According to a recent survey, the average U.S. employee takes only half of their allotted vacation time. Unsurprisingly, they’re suffering from being overworked, overwhelmed and overwrought.

Even among those who actually do go on vacation, three in five admitted to doing some work. A quarter were contacted by a coworker while they were on vacation, and 20 percent were contacted by their supervisor about a work-related issue.

It’s time we say “enough is enough” and learn to put our needs first. Taking time off is good for your mental and physical health, it improves productivity, reduces stress and can even lead to better sleep. It’s a win-win.

Taking time off can even help reduce or prevent the risk of heart disease. In one study, men at risk for heart disease who skipped vacations for five consecutive years were 30 percent more likely to suffer heart attacks than those who took at least a week off each year. Even missing one year’s vacation was associated with a higher risk of heart disease. Studies find similar results with women: Women who took a vacation once every six years or less were almost eight times more likely to develop heart disease, have a heart attack, or die of a coronary-related cause than those who took at least two vacations a year. These statistics are not to scare you but to persuade you that time off is important to your health in the long run.
