1-877-789-2085PIN: 7712 Highlights: Poisoned Waters
• More than three decades after the Clean Water Act, iconic American waterways like the Chesapeake Bay and Puget Sound are in perilous condition and facing new sources of contamination.
• "The irony is that everybody looks at that [picturesque] scene and thinks that it's great. But in point of fact, not 100 feet away from where they are drinking a nice glass of wine off their white linen, there is this unbelievable gunk coming out of the end of this pipe."

1-877-789-2085PIN: 7712 Collaborator In the Spotlight
On the Phone:
Alan Vicory, Executive Director www.orsanco.org
Since 1948, ORSANCO and its member states have cooperated to improve water quality in the Ohio River Basin so that the river and its tributaries can be used for drinking water, industrial supplies, and recreational purposes; and can support a healthy and diverse aquatic community.

1-877-789-2085PIN: 7712 Investigating Stacking with GHGs
Adam Diamant, EPRI Global Climate Program
Demonstrating the potential to achieve large scale, cost-effective GHG emissions offsets by reducing N2O emissions from agricultural crop production.
EPRI developed this project in collaboration with one of the world’s foremost experts on non-CO2 GHG emissions from agriculture – Dr. Phil Robertson, Professor of Crop and Soil Sciences at Michigan State University (MSU).

1-877-789-2085PIN: 7712 Measuring N2O Automated Chambers
Nitrous Oxide is a powerful non-CO2 greenhouse gas (GHG).– 100-year Global Warming Potential (GWP) is 296. 1 ton of N2 O emissions = 296 tons CO2 e.

1-877-789-2085PIN: 7712 Research on Ecosystem Services
We are scoping out research on Ecosystem Services in the Upper Mississippi and Ohio River Basins.
The purpose will be to inform the sustainable use of ecosystem services.
In discussions with USDA Office of Ecosystem Services and Markets (Sally Collins) and EPA Ecosystem Service Research Program (Rick Linthurst).
More to come . . .

Restoration of Ecosystem Services for Environmental Markets.
By Margaret A. Palmer and Solange Filoso
“Without new science and an oversight framework to protect the ecosystem service assets which people depend, [ecosystem service] markets could actually accelerate environmental degradation.”
