General Services Administration (GSA):The GSAs Art in Architecture Program commissions American artists to create public and

permanent installed artwork for federal buildings across the nation. This incorporation

of contemporary art exemplifies the immeasurable benefit of integration art within our

lives and communities. The Guiding Principles for Federal Architecture was issued by

the Kennedy administration in 1962 and serves as the foundation for GSAs policy to

commission art. They refer to this relationship of architecture and the fine arts as an

increasingly fruitful collaboration and insist that fine art should be incorporated

in the designs of Federal buildings. Policies were instituted to ensure that the quality

of American art in these federally owned properties continually uphold the highest of

    standards.

National Endowment of the Arts (NEA):The National Endowment of the Arts is a sub section of the United States federalgovernment, which offers support and funding for projects displaying artistic excellence.

This independent agency was created by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1965. The NEA

relies on a solid foundation of state arts agencies, federal agencies, local leaders,

and the philanthropic sector. The goals of the NEA are as follows: The creation of art

that meets the highest standards of excellence; to engage the public with diverse and

excellent art; and to promote public knowledge and understanding about the contributions

of the arts. The NEA was created with the vision that the U.S. will be a nation where

the arts contribute to the enrichment of the lives of Americans and enhance thelivability of communities.

San Francisco Arts Commision (SFAC):The San Francisco Art Commission was created in 1932 and runs under the umbrella of the

California Arts Council (CAC). The San Francisco Public Art Program, one of the first

in the country, was created in 1969 by city ordinance which states that 2 percent of the

construction cost of civic buildings, transportation improvement projects, new parks, and other above-ground structures to be allocated for public art.
