It seems Winter has now decided to make its way to us finally. Let’s hope for a time free from too many

colds and flu! If your child is sick or unwell, it is usually best to keep them at home so they can recover

quicker and get back to being fit sooner. School can be tiring for many kids and it can take longer for

them to get over a cold. It also helps stop any germs that are about from spreading.

Well done Boolaroo Public School wonderful effort at last week’s, Westlake Small School Athletics

Carnival. We had perfect weather for our Athletics Carnival and it was great to have so many families

supporting the event. We were proud of the high level of participation and effort shown by our students.

This term we are fortunate to be able to offer Ninja gymnastics as part of the sporting schools program,

the students are enjoying the mini trampoline and tumbling activities.

Last Friday 31st May, our Stage 3 students attended the first of the 2019 transition days at Lake

Macquarie High School. The day was filled with lots of fun STEM activities.

Semester 1 reports

Staff are busy preparing mid-year reports, that will be sent home during the last week of term. These

reports are based on the outcomes and learning addressed during Semester 1 and reflect the

achievements and efforts of our students during this time.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN We are again participating in Woolworths Earn and Learn this year. There

is a box in the office foyer to return your sticker sheets. For every $10 spent

in a single transaction at Woolworths (some purchases excluded) you will

receive a sticker which can be placed in our collection box at your local

Woolworths store or you can drop it into the box in the school office foyer.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program.

BOOLAROO BULLETIN TERM 2 WEEK 6 4th JUNE 2019

K/1 Clownfish

The term is just flying by and we have been very busy as usual in the Clownfish

Classroom. We are currently reading lots of funny, imaginative texts about unicorns,

dragons, monsters and imaginary friends. We have been working on writing super

sentences using correct punctuation, capital letters and spaces. One of our main

focuses has been on sounding out words slowly and using our writing

supports to spell sight words correctly.

We had an absolute blast at the athletics carnival last week. It was

wonderful to see all students having a go and trying hard in their races.

Miss McCaw was super proud of everyone. Congratulations to all

Clownfish for their efforts!

Here are some crazy monster art that we have been working on over the past two weeks. We think they

look great!

Miss McCaw

1/2 Swordfish

It’s been another busy couple of weeks in 1/2 Swordfish class, we have been using

the motto “practice makes progress” and the children have all been challenging

themselves a little bit more when completing their set tasks.

I am proud to see all the students progressing with their learning, especially with

reading. During Daily Five, we have been busy writing our imaginative texts, editing and publishing them.

We will be using the filming equipment to present our stories in a couple of week and we are all very

excited!

We have been also using the website Literacy Shed as great stimulus for starting our imaginative texts,

this website has lots of fantastic short films that explore fantasy and creative texts. During our writing, we

have been using a range of drama activities to get into different character, there are definitely some

budding actors in this class.

Students are loving presenting ‘What’s in a bag?’ for news this week. It’s great to

see students writing down their clues at home so they are organised when they

present their news to the class.

We did so well in our last learning sprint goal for

mathematics and now the next five weeks will be on skip

counting by 2s, 5s, 10s so we can use this knowledge to

answer multiplication and division questions.

Mrs Clark & Mrs Lynch

3/4 Stingrays

We have had such a busy term so far and the students

have really been enjoying themselves. We have started

gymnastics which has been a blast, the kids have been

learning to jump, roll, cartwheel, and use the mini

trampoline and the springboard. We have had most of

our students’ reach our learning sprint goal and are now onto a new goal

for the next few weeks, so looking forward to that! What a great turn out

for the athletics carnival with a few students making it to Zone, Well done!

The kids have been also been

working hard on some great

sizzling starts for their stories. And

in maths we had a great time with

our little shop, learning about

adding decimals.

Miss Webb

5/6 Whales

The Whales class have had a busy couple of weeks. We have had excursions to the

GRIP leadership seminar in Newcastle, STEM day at Lake Macquarie High School

and our small schools athletics carnival.

I am always proud to teach the beautiful bunch of children that are my Whales class. Their behaviour at all

school excursions has been nothing short of exemplary and they are a credit to themselves (and their

parents).

However, I am taking this opportunity to raise the issue and

importance of wearing correct school uniform. School

uniform reflects the pride we take in ourselves and our

belonging to the amazing learning centre that is Boolaroo PS.

On Friday, at Lake Macquarie High School my class’s attire

represented all colours of the rainbow. Although, we were

well behaved our uniform did not reflect the values of our

school and when forming first impressions we were let down.

I understand as a parent that at times

it may be difficult to afford school

attire. However, I would urge you to

dress your child in appropriate school

colours.

Mrs Swain

Seen any cats typing lately? What about playing chess?

Well if you look around our school, you will see some

fabulous posters created by Violet Mooney of 1/2 Swordfish

inviting new members to join our Touch Typing Club and

Chess Club.

We were thrilled to welcome new members last Friday, who

said they had a great time and will be back for more!

Being part of a school club creates a sense of belonging and

togetherness. It is a time of fun and friendship as well as learning the important

skills of strategy, speed and accuracy that can be used right now at school, in high school and later in the

workforce.

We meet every Friday of the school term in

Room 2 at second lunch.

Hope to see you there!
