Also on display from November 10th - 14th is a collection of published war stories from local veterans who are now members of the American Legion Post 694. Veteran Bill Amadio has compiled this collection of articles from vari-ous sources, including the Town of Huntington Oral History Project, and the Northport Observer.

How the JFK Assassination Changed the ConstitutionMonday, November 17th, 7:00 - 9:00 PM

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy fifty-one years ago was a defining moment in American history. Yet the story of how JFK’s untimely death led to a change in the U.S. Constitution is less well known. In this discussion Professor James Coll will examine constitutional provisions dealing with a premature vacancy in the presidency and legal changes over time in the order of presidential succession. Floral Designer Phyllis Chan Carr will show you how to create this holiday decoration using assorted mixed greens. Bring a small pair of lightweight garden shears or heavy scis-sors, garden gloves and a wire hanger. There is a $12 supply fee for the workshop. Marisa’s exhibit combines her love of nature and photography in all her work. The color photos showcase the florals in all their glory, while the black and white images allow you to visualize flowers differently. Stripped of their color you are able to appreciate the beautiful details, whether they are in full bloom or past their prime.

Pet Portrait Artist

Beth Weiner LipsonBeth Weiner Lipson has

been a professional artist for over 30 years, having first be-gun her career as a children’s book author/illustrator. Her artwork has also appeared on book jackets, jigsaw puzzles and in several magazines.

She is a member of the So-ciety of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), Hun-tington Arts Council, and Art League of Huntington. Beth is also involved with several pet rescue organizations where she donates pet portrait gift certificates as raffle prizes. Beth’s pet portraits as well as gift items will be available at this year’s Friends Holiday Craft Fair on November 7th & 8th.

In the Showcase: Glass ArtistsKathleen Gerlach and Julianna Kirk will exhibit some of their

original glass art in the Reference Room showcase throughout November and December. Both artists are members of the Long Island Craft Guild Glass Media Artists Group.

5 Hour Pre-Licensing ClassOpen to High School students and Adults Saturday, November 1st, 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM

The 5-hour pre-licensing class is required by the NY State Department of Motor Vehicles for all students who would like to schedule a road test. The fee for this class is $45 (cash only, and exact change is appreciated.) The class will be taught by an instructor from a local driving school and is open to anyone ages 16 and up. You must bring your NY State Learner’s Permit to class. In-person registration is required at the Young Adult Desk.

Boys and girls will want to “gobble” up these sweet Thanks-giving treats! We will decorate cookies to look like turkeys, and then share a feast of Thanksgiving stories to be grateful for. Registration begins Monday, November 10th.

Children will decorate Thanksgiving Turkey cupcakes under the guidance of a trained Pastry Chef and a licensed teacher from Fanny Cakes using colorful icings and fondant. Each child will bring home 4 cupcakes. Registration begins Thursday, November 6th.

Holiday Fabric Plates Children in grades 3 – 5Thursday, November 13th, 7:00 - 8:00 PM

Children will create a decorative plate using colorful fabrics and decoupage. Great to give as a gift or to serve your favorite dessert. Registration begins Wednesday, November 5th.

You can choose any five activities on your Bingo Board to help you explore the World of Reading and complete the Cold Turkey Challenge. If you accept our Cold Turkey Challenge, choose one activity for any five out of seven days and Go Cold Turkey!

Successful challengers will be rewarded with a ticket to our COLD TURKEY FINALE on Monday, November 24th at 4:30 or 6:30 PM. Completed bingo boards must be returned on Saturday, November 22nd , Sunday, November 23rd or Monday, Novem-ber 24th between 9 AM and 12 Noon.

We invite our young patrons to drop by the Children’s Room to play traditional board games like Scrabble, Battleship, checkers and more. What a great way to kick off the Cold Turkey Challenge! If you enjoy electronic games you can play a game on a computer or have your parent check out an iPad where you can choose from a great selection of age appropriate apps. Happy Gaming!

Collecting Small Gifts For Children In Need

A few dedicated volunteers in our community are working with the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Hun-tington to provide gifts and necessities to local children in need. We are collecting donations of new gifts for children ages 5 to 12-years-old that will fit in shoeboxes. We also need empty shoeboxes and volunteers to wrap at 11 AM on Friday, December 12th. Please bring wrapping paper and

tape and join us for a wrapping party in the Library Meeting Room! A collection bin will be in the Library Lobby through December 12th. Suggested gifts are: playing cards, hair clips, hair scrunchies, soft toys, teddy bears, dolls, craft kits, small games, necklaces, school supplies, Play Dough, hats, jump rope, Matchbox cars, solar calculators, flashlights and extra batteries, harmonicas, T-shirts, socks, sunglasses, watches, stamping kits, etc. No liquids, lotions, medications, aerosol cans, breakable items, chocolate, food or toy guns.
