From the PTA PresidentThe weather is getting chilly, but things are just heating up here at Donaldson!

So many fun events are coming up - make sure you have clearances on file in the office so you don't miss out!  Volunteers are needed for class parties, Santa Shop, Market Day and more!

Watch your email for event dates and signup info.  Stay connected through Facebook by liking our page at Facebook.com/DonaldsonPTA.  Get notifications through Remind:  text the code @cf21b to phone number 724-565-8456 or download the Remind app and enter class code cf21b.

Fundraisers are in full swing as we race to fund new Smart Boards for classrooms.  Our goal is to purchase at least 4 by the end of the school year - with the cost of each board at almost $5000, we need all the help we can get!  Reach out to friends, neighbors, and relatives for their support in this great cause!Thank you for all that you do to help our school be great!  Working together, I know we can be even greater!

What’s a SMART Board? You’ve heard our cries and read our plea to help the PTA fundraise for Smart Boards in our school. Now are you asking yourself, what’s a Smart Board? I did too! A Smart Board is an interactive whiteboard that uses touch detection of computer applications and the ability to write over standard Windows applications. It’s connected to an LCD panel and computer, creating an interactive whiteboard. Still confused? This helpful video shows how real teachers are using Smart Boards and how it impacts children in the classroom.

The Donaldson PTA hosted its first Box Tops for Education collection contest for the 2014-2015 school year during the week of October 20 through October 24, 2014. The classroom that collects the most Box Tops for Education will win a special treat. Be sure to check an upcoming PTA newsletter to find out who the winning classroom was.

Each valid Box Tops is worth 10 cents to Donaldson Elementary. Each school participating in the Box Tops for Education program could earn up to $20,000 cash per year simply by turning in Box Tops. If you forgot to turn them in this time, don’t worry. We will have one or two more collection efforts during this school year. Search your cupboards, get those scissors out and start clipping if you haven’t done so already! Let’s see how much money we can raise for Donaldson Elementary this year.

Submitting your Box Tops can be as simple as putting them in a sealed envelope or plastic bag and sending them with your child to be turned into their teacher. If you prefer, you can also use the form provided by Box Tops (included on the next page of this newsletter) and either tape or glue the Box Tops to it, but please do not use staples. Please do not include any Bonus Box Tops certificates on the form, as they need to be turned in separately.

With any submission, please make sure your teacher’s name is on it so the appropriate classroom receives credit for any upcoming contests. Box Tops do have an expiration date, so please ensure that the expiration date of the Box Tops is still valid before submitting.
