Thanks for a great year! Thank you PTA Board and Members of our Roosevelt community for a great school year! We value your time, your contributions, your sacrifices and efforts all year long to make our school and our community as best as it can be. We look forward to our continued growth and providing opportunities for all our students and families to be a part of our home away from home. Thank you for an amazing school year and we look forward to seeing you in August. Enjoy your summer break!

Roosevelt Field Day! Field day is Tuesday June 5th and is going to be great fun! However, in order to ensure that this event goes off without a hitch, we need TONS of parent volunteers! Please consider signing up using the link below:  http://signup.com/login/entry/626983229996954070  We will have 2 different skill based obstacle courses set up, a station of tug of war and a sprint/hurdles station in addition to a color run. *Please note that the TK and K kids will not be doing the color run. They will have a parachute and bubbles station.   Some things to consider:

● Think about having your child wear a light colored (or white) shirt so the color chalk will be seen

● Bring a change of clothes. ● Kids can always opt out of any part of field day.

We are asking for a donation of $5 per child to cover the cost of the color powder. This is a donation and is not required. All children (grades 1-5) will be able to participate in the color run. You can donate with cash or check to your child’s teacher OR pay with the venmo link below!   http://www.venmo.com/RooseveltPTA  **The color powder is biodegradable and non toxic  The schedule is as follows: TK/K - 10:30-11:10 1st-3rd grade - 1:30-2:10 4th- 5th grade - 2:10- 3:00  And finally, thanks to Roosevelt dad, Matt Perl, the Oakland A’s will be loaning the one and only Stomper to come out to cheer on the kids! Stomper will be here from 1:30-3:00 so don’t miss out! And you miss him on campus, you can always see Stomper at an A’s game this summer! Use the link below to buy tickets for some summer fun. Thanks again, Oakland Athletics!   www.Athletics.com/boom

PTA Meeting Minutes PTA GENERAL MEETING – May 24, 2018

 PTA – Board Meeting May 24, 2018

Welcome – Alisa Finch

Secretary’s Report – Lesley Kamian/Lisa Musselman

● Approval of minutes sent in email ● Jamie Barbieri made a motion to approve, Emily Driggers second. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report/Budget Approval 2018-2019 – Kristina Keller

● Approval of Checks #5144-#5162 ● Kristina Keller made a motion to approve, Jamie Barbieri second. Motion passed.

Principal’s Report – David Kumamoto

● 4/5 Spring Concert was today ● Safe Routes to School Safety Audit. They watched drop off in the morning at

different points in the school. Got a feel for the culture and the different entry points. Had a discussion about what was observed. They observed many of the behaviors they have heard about from families. Safe Routes will give a full report in a few weeks. This will give a good idea of what can be changed.

● 5th grade math placement test for next year. The test was online and the teachers have the results. Waiting for next steps.

● Staffing shifts in the intermediate grades – Ms. Valdivia is leaving.

Teacher’s Report – Debbie Dodd

● Testing is complete for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. ● New Language Arts and ELD curriculum coming - Macmillan. It has been many

years coming. Some teachers are doing summer training for it. We were a pilot school for it. The Roosevelt teachers voted for it overwhelmingly. It is rigorous and fun. Ties into Social Studies and Science and ELD.

● New reading intervention program – Fountas and Pinnell LLI. ● The old adoption will be available for distribution to the community. ● Next week 1:50 release all week. ● Coffee and Conversation next week ● Special Families ● Last Hornet Hustle, Friday, June 1 at 10:30. ● Monday, June 4th and Tuesday, June 5th are regular dismissal day. ● Still accepting $5 donations for the Color Run Field Day. We need volunteers for

field day. A sign up went out via room parents.

Programs & Assemblies Report – Sadie Alvarado & Jessica Seibert

● Bancroft Middle School Information Night feedback – good feedback. The middle school kids did great and gave good insight. About 40 kids showed up. Parents and kids were separated.

● BMX Bike Show Feedback – kids like it. There was some confusion about who was responsible for it. It was a different group and not as exciting as in the past. It used to be a reward for fundraising but direct donations have changed the incentive.

● Now that Sadie and Jessica have done it for a year they are ready to make changes for next year.

Fundraising Report – Monique Farris

● Good Eggs Fundraiser Update - $621 ● Final Fundraisers – no more fundraisers planned for this year.

Parent Group Report –

● AAPAG – how much do they have left to spend? Some confusion around how the money is allocated to the parent groups. AAPAG would like $700 to send teacher identified students to summer school/camp. Jessica Seibert made a motion, Emily Driggers second. Motion passed.

Other Reports/Updates

● Bancroft Ancient Civilizations of the World at Bancroft Middle School TODAY

PTA Business

● Increase Science Teacher salary from $25 to $30-$35/hour. It means pulling money from other places. The salary increase needs to happen now in order to hire before the school year begins. Jessica Seibert made a motion to approve, Monique Farris second. Motion passed.

● Field Day Planning ● Spring Auction Update - $43,000-$45,000 after expenses. ● Teacher Appreciation Week feedback – it was a great week. The teachers loved it!

Next PTA meeting will be August 2018 at 7pm in the MPR
