We would like to introduce ourselves to you as your new Co- Chairs elected at the PTA Annual General Meeting on the 5th October 2011. Over the last two weeks we have been getting to grips with the handover and thinking about how we plan for the year ahead. The first thing we wanted to do was update you on your new PTA. Last year, there were two separate “Friends Associations” representing both junior and primary schools. This year, in line with the amalgamation of the two schools, the two associations have joined forces to form one Parent Teachers Association (PTA) covering both The Grove and Broadway sites. We have been elected as Co-Chairs of this new association. A new committee has also been formed to help manage what we need to achieve this year, the details of which are included in this newsletter. Together, we will endeavour to bring our energy and commitment to help our school by fundraising, provide an effective communications channel between parents/carers and the school, and help develop a social network for parents/carers. Our main objective is to raise money for projects to assist our children’s learning. As yet, these projects have not been finalised, but we will let you know in due course so we all know what we are aiming for. We are tentatively aiming to raise between £25,000 - £30,000 during the course of the year, and we will keep you up to date of how much is raised by our “fundraising barometer” on the right of this page (we are starting with £5,000 in the bank left over from last year’s fundraising). So, how are we going to raise the money? Well, we intend to build on the success that was achieved during the last school year, with some new initiatives introduced as well. But before we start the planning process in earnest, we would like to get some feedback. £25,000 £24,000 £23,000 £22,000 £21,000 £20,000 £19,000 £18,000 £17,000 £16,000 £15,000 £14,000 £13,000 £12,000 £11,000 £10,000 £9,000 £8,000 £7,000 £6,000 £5,000 Our Target PTA NEWS PTA NEWS Issue 1: October 2011 Christ the Saviour C of E Primary School Tara Bramwell (Emilia RA) & Alison Leeson (Louis 1LO, Eden RA) Email: [email protected]

Lastyear, there were two separate “Friends Associations” representing both junior andprimary schools. This year, in line with the amalgamation of the two schools, the twoassociations have joined forces to form one Parent Teachers Association (PTA)covering both The Grove and Broadway sites. Questionnaire

We will be issuing a questionnaire after half term. This questionnaire is designed to help us findout what you think of the PTA and to work out what areas we need to improve. We also want tocapture the diverse talent we have amongst us and find out who is willing to put those blessedskills to a well-deserved cause…. Christ the Saviour’s fundraising pot. We very muchhope all of you will take this opportunity to voice your ideas! From the information we gatherfrom this questionnaire we will make plans for the future, so please take 5 minutes to fill it in.

The success of your PTA will depend on everyone contributing in some way. We appreciate thattime is very precious, but please do not take it for granted that someone else has the job in hand.Ultimately, everything we do will help our children’s learning in some way, so at least motivationshould not be a problem!

Planned Giving

With public funding cutbacks, donations made to the PTA are vital for the school’s continuedsuccessful growth and virtuosity. One of the simplest ways in which to support the school, particularly if time is a real problem, is to contribute financially on a regular basis and for thispurpose we have attached relevant forms for Planned Giving. This is of course optional. Allcontributions, no matter how big or small, are extremely welcome.

These funds truly help us influence what the school does to aid our children’s education. Shouldyou decide to pursue this option, please fill out the Gift Aid Declaration Form (for UK tax payers)as this increases the value of your contribution by 25% but costs you nothing. Please do not beput off by the fact that the account and the charity name is stated as St Saviour’s – these nameswill change to Christ the Saviour in due course, but our charity number and account number willnot. Please return the relevant forms to the school office, but your banker’s order form shouldgo directly to your bank. Thank you to all parents who consider adopting this vital fundraisingoption.

Your committee

Thank you very much indeed to those who have stepped forward to take positions in thecommittee. Some of you will be conversant with the different positions on the committee, othersmay not. As a result, we have written simple “Job Descriptions” for each position so everyoneknows what they need to do. These will be issued to those listed via the contact details they haveprovided. We are also working on a comprehensive database to help ensure good and accuratecommunication. If any of the details listed below are incorrect, please get in touch via the PTAemail address: [email protected].

There are vacancies! There is no doubt that Class Representatives are the backbone of thePTA – without them we would not have a PTA. They form the linchpin between parents/carersand the school. If you feel you have the ability to unite your class through good communicationsand social events we desperately need you to come on board. The vacant positions arehighlighted in purple below.

We look forward to building a strong and successful PTA that will benefit the school andultimately our children.
