You are DEFINITELY college material!
Some of you may have already decided where you want to go to college...some of you are going to go where your mom or dad went to college...and some of you are just starting to think about it. It is not too early to start thinking about college… in fact it is a great time. There are many websites that can help you start to plan.
Sometimes it helps to know someone who went to the college you are interested in. We have invited representatives from several Utah colleges and universities to come visit us during our lunches. You can ask them questions about their school. You might want to find out how much tuition is or what kind of programs or scholarships they offer.
We are also going to spotlight different websites you might find helpful. You can take interest inventories, plan yourself a budget so you know how much money you’d need to earn to live the kind of life-style you want, or get college information. It is exciting to start planning and looking forward to your great future!
This months website is Utahfutures.org. Go to the assessments and do the career clusters and reality check! There is SO much infor-mation in this site. You can compare colleges and check out the hottest careers.
Talk to your parents, aunts, uncles and teachers about where they went to college. Ask them why they chose that school and what they liked about it.
This will get you started. We asked the teachers for you! We will be including more teachers next month so stay tuned!
Mrs. Henderson: went to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona (hippie version of Park City!). Amazing 5 years leaving Utah to experience culture and new peo-ple outside of Utah. Also studied abroad at the University of Ghana. I went on scholar-ship and paid in-state tuition on the Western Undergraduate Exchange. PS changed my major three times! Wish I hadn’t felt forced to choose so early.
Graduate degree at Oregon State University. Amazing vet program, microbiolo-gy department, athletics. Also participates in the WUE program!
Mrs. Johnson: went to Colorado Mesa University (2 years), the University of Utah (5 years), and University of Phoenix (2 years). I also got my ESL endorsement through Weber State (1 year). Ten years! That’s not counting all the other classes I took to get my lane changes. I should have gone to med school!!
Mrs. Wilkinson: attended Utah State University and the University of Utah. I liked the smaller class sizes at USU and I liked the strong school spirit at the U.
Mr. Killion: BS- Golden Gate University(Business)
BA- Georgia State University(Secondary Ed)
MBA- Troy State University.
Approachable staff and flexible scheduling were awesome!
Mrs. Kearl: received degrees from BYU and Utah Valley University (UVU)
Mrs. Nate: Undergrad and Masters at Utah State University. It is a beautiful campus with great professors
Mr. Brough: University of Utah, BA
Christian-Albrechts Universitat, Kiel, Germany, Minor in German Lanuguage and Literature
Western Governor’s University, MS
Christian-Albrechts was a great experience to live in Germany and be in school with Poles, Czechs, Koreans, Egyptians, Iranians, Brits, even a Turk. The only way we could communicate with each other was through our shared second language, German
Mrs. Shaffer: Utah State University...hey Aggies all the way! Go Aggies, Go Aggies, Hey Hey Hey! It is totally awesome school with a great education program.
Grand Canyon University (Masters) Private Christian College...did it on line...not much to say about it.
Please plan to attend the following fall concerts. You can enjoy fine dancing, singing and instrumental music + you can support your
performing friends!
