Packet Tracer – Creating a New Topology

What is Packet Tracer? Packet Tracer is a protocol simulator developed by Dennis Frezzo and his team atCisco Systems. Packet Tracer (PT) is a powerul and dynamic tool that displays the various protocols usedin networkin!" in either #eal Time or Simulation mode. This includes layer $ protocols such as %thernet andPPP" layer & protocols such as 'P" 'CP" and #P" and layer * protocols such as TCP and +DP. #outin!protocols can also be traced.

Purpose, The purpose o this lab is to become amiliar with buildin! topolo!ies in Packet Tracer.

Requisite knowledge, This lab assumes some understandin! o the %thernet protocol. t this point wehave not discussed other protocols" but will use Packet Tracer in later labs to discuss those as well.

Version, This lab is based on Packet Tracer -..

    Step 1 Start Packet Tracer

0e will be!in buildin! our network topolo!y by selectin! devices and the media in which to connect them.Several types o devices and network connections can be used. For this lab we will keep it simple by usin!$nd "e#ices" Switches" %u&s" and Connections.

Sin!le click on each !roup o devices and connections to display the various choices. The devices you seemay dier sli!htly.
