PSU’s Global Programs oversees and promotesinternationalization of PSU’s campuses. Theyoffer a number of grants for faculty interested in developing international partnerships and/or educational programs. See the section, “TravelGrants”formoreinformation

PSU Global Programs Travel Registry

Travel Insurance

In2014PSUmade adecision toprovide travelinsurance to PSU faculty included on the registry and who are traveling abroad on PSU-relatedbusiness. Once your information is submitted to the PSU Global Programs registry, you willbeeligibleforfreetravelinsurance.Unlikewhatmost people believe, domestic insurance plans typically do not cover evaluations or repatriations. An evacuation that requires and air ambulance starts at $100,000 and if you do not have travel insurance it could be your responsibility to pay. For this reason we emphasize that you shouldsign-up for the travel insurance listed above.

Clinical Care & Medical Malpractice

IfintendingtoprovideclinicalcareabroadyouwillneedtocontactDebVerne([email protected]) in Risk Management to request that your malpractice insurancebeextendedtocoveryouduringthetime-frame of your travel. Your malpractice insurance does not automatically cover you outside the U.S. Also, somecountrieshavebeguninstitutinglawsrelatedtoforeignersprovidingclinicalcare.Theselawsmayimposefinancialpenaltiesandevenprosecutionasacriminalmatter.PleasecontactourOfficeofGeneralCounseltolearnmoreaboutthisimportantissue.

HIV PEP

MetLifeTravelAssistanceisofferedasabenefittoIncaseofoccupationalexposuretoHIVwhileabroad, we are providing students and facultywith HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)kits. These are starter kits with seven days’ ofmedications. To learn more about these kitsand to receive an HIV PEP kit, please contact Tina Lengle ([email protected]). Please read the material in the kit and inspect the kit before leaving.

3. UOGP GEN Travel Grants

• Awarded for international faculty travel toaccompany students on short-term, summer, or semester-long programs offered at any Penn State GEN location in collaborationwithaninstitutiondesignatedasaPennStatestrategic partner.

• Awardamount:upto$4,000

TRAVEL GRANTS & FULBRIGHT FELLOWSHIP

4. UOGP Transformational Travel Grants

• Grants(renewableuptothreeyears)awardedfor international faculty travel to accompany studentsonaneworexistingprogramthatispositioned to make a substantial, long-term impact for the department, college, campus, and/or university. Examples include thefollowing:

• Awardamount:upto$3,000,renewableforup to three years.

5. Academic Internationalization Awards

• Awarded in recognition of significantachievement in internationalizing thecurriculum or academic programming, as well as improving the campus climate forglobaldiversity.Theseawardswillbegivenin three categories:

•College/DepartmentInternationalization Award

•Center/InstituteInternationalization Award

•CampusInternationalizationAward

• Awardamount:$1,000foreachcategorytobe used toward future internationalizationefforts of the recipient’s choice and includes acertificate,profileandpromotioninUOGPpublications.

The US State Department regularly updates itsTravelWarningList.Moredetailedinformationcan also be found on WorldWatch.

Penn State University maintains a list of “Dangerous Countries” (determined by the USDepartment of Treasury restrictions). Facultyshould review the current list to determinewhetherthecountryofintendedtravelislocatedon the list.

Emergencies abroad involving students (Policy SY03)This policy outlines the University’s policy onemergencies involving students and establish notificationguidelinesfordealingwithemergenciesinvolving students.

Whenever a student is involved in an emergency situationwhiletravelingonaUniversitysponsoredtrip,e.g.tripswithstudentorganizationsandathleticteams, the staff member or other person in-charge of the activity shall contact the University Police at UniversityPark(814-863-1111).Thisofficeisopen24hoursaday.
