TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Prayer for Spiritual Communion for all during this pandemic health crisis.

Act of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite

myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Our Journey

Our Adult Faith

Treasure: The Liturgy of the Hours

As we all know, our Mass, our Sunday liturgy, is the public prayer of the Church.

The other form of public prayer is the Liturgy of the Hours, a treasure I’ve

rediscovered that’s bringing me reminders of God’s ever-present care throughout my day.

Many parishioners pray the Liturgy of the Hours every day.

(Did you know that ‘liturgy’ means public work by the people of God in the work of God?)

What is it?

The Liturgy of the Hours is prayer to praise God and sanctify our day.

It is prayed at certain times of the day and has its origins in the Jewish tradition

of consecrating morning, noon, and evening with prayer.

As part of the liturgical reform of Vatican II, the Liturgy of the Hours was revised in order to make it more accessible to the laity, as well as to the clergy, because it

belongs to the whole Body of the Church, whose life it both expresses and affects.

[CCC 1174 ]

How do I pray with it?

Focus on praying with two of the major hours, Morning Prayer (greets and dedicates

the day to God) and Evening Prayer (celebrates thankfulness for gifts received).

I’m trying to add the Daytime Prayer too.

Find a version to purchase online. I subscribe to Give Us This Day, a daily

devotional that includes the Morning and Evening Prayer (as well as daily mass.)

Let’s take up this ‘work of God’s people’ to be praying together, apart.

Join me, wherever you are, in praying this public prayer of our Church.

As I pray, I will imagine you greeting your morning and at end of day, celebrating the

gifts God shared with you.

Life Teen is a Eucharist-centered movement within the Roman Catholic Church, Life

Teen leads teenagers and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ

and His Church. With the Blessed Virgin Mary as our intercessor and guide, Life Teen

seeks to unleash the fullness of the Sacramental power present within the young

Church. Go to www.basilteen.com for all Life Night info.

TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

I Can Do That

“. . .water continues to be wasted,

not only in the developed world but

also in developing countries which possess it in

abundance.“ - Laudato Si’

In Northeast Ohio the biggest problem we

have regarding water is runoff. Large amounts

of rainwater can overflow our sewer systems.

Look at your property. Impermeable surfaces

prevent water from returning to the ground

which contributes to flooding the sewers. In

some cases this results in raw sewage being

backed into houses or washing into

waterways. Rain barrels catch water that can

then be used to water your trees and shrubs.

When you travel be mindful that not every

place is blessed with an abundance of water.

There are many ways to stop wasting water.

Turning off the faucet while brushing your

teeth, lathering your hair, and washing dirty

dishes contributes towards saving water as

well. Don’t overfill your bathtub unless you or

your grandkids plan to swim in it. If you don’t

have a washing machine that has an automatic

water saving feature, be sure to adjust the

water level when you load your clothes. Fix

faucets that leak. Collect water from leaky

faucets and use it to water your plants while

you wait for your plumber to show up.

You’re not a “drip”

so don’t waste a drop!

“Our prayers go out to all the

ones during the corona virus

pandemic…

May They rest in peace.”

Appalachian Collection-Cancelled

We regret to inform you that this year’s

Appalachian Collection has been cancelled due

to the corona virus. We felt that wearing masks

in the hot stagnant confines of a 53ft trailer

would not be possible and could put the health

of our gracious volunteers in jeopardy. It is our

intention to resume the Appalachian Collection,

God willing, in 2021.

In these trying times, we may not be able to

offer those in Appalachia our physical help, but,

as one door temporarily closes, another

opens. A monetary donation would go far

further than most any physical donation in

helping those in Appalachia. Please prayerfully

consider supporting one or both of the below

missions during these trying times:
