PrintShop Mail makes personalized printing quick and easy. It integrates database informa-tion into the layout of a document. You can create this document in any layout or designapplication, and use any database format.

By simply dragging and dropping database fields onto the document layout, you create a linkbetween the database field and the document. PrintShop Mail provides onscreen previewingof each record and provides you with a powerful resource checking option.

During the printing process, the static portion of the job is sent to the printer once, andtherefore does not need to be re-ripped. Then, the variable information from the database issent to the printer on the fly. This greatly shortens the printing process and decreasesnetwork traffic. PrintShop Mail then allows your PostScript ® printer to print at or near ratedspeed, depending on RIP capability. This makes variable information printing an efficientprocess.

PrintShop Mail offers several different ways to optimize your output, known as PrintTechnologies. Because every print technology uses PostScript Level 2, PrintShop Mailrequires the use of a PostScript printer driver and a PostScript Level 2 compatible RIP.

Some technologies are based on the PostScript standard, which means that they will besupported by every type of RIP available. Other technologies are based on extensions ofPostScript, which are only supported by specific RIP types.

Note: If you are installing on a PC running Windows NT, 2000 or XP, make sure you arelogged in with full administrative rights before running the installation program.

1. Insert the CD-ROM to start the installation program (If the installation program does notstart automatically, locate the “Setup.exe” file. Double-click on this file to start the installa-tion program.)

2. Click NNNNNeeeeextxtxtxtxt.

3. Read the license agreement and select “I accept the terms in the license agreement” toproceed with the installation. (If you select “I do not accept the terms in the license agree-ment,” the installation stops.)


5. Fill in the User Name and your company information. This information is optional.

6. Specify whether you want PrintShop Mail to be available for all users on the computer, orjust for the current user.


8. Choose either a DDDDDeeeeefaultfaultfaultfaultfault or CCCCCustustustustustooooommmmm setup.

- If you select DDDDDeeeeefaultfaultfaultfaultfault, you have the option to verify your installation settings. All necessaryprograms features will be installed in the English language. Click IIIIInstalnstalnstalnstalnstallllll to start the installa-tion.

- If you select CCCCCustustustustustooooommmmm, you can choose which program features you want installed and wherethey will be installed. This option allows you to install additional languages.

Click the hard disk-icon to view four choices for the selected feature:- This feature will be installed on local hard drive.- This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on local hard drive.- This feature will be installed when required.- This feature will not be available.

You can also change the default installation directory. To do this, click the CCCCChanghanghanghanghangeeeee buttonand select the directory to use for the PrintShop Mail installation.

After you set the options you want, click NNNNNeeeeextxtxtxtxt and FinishFinishFinishFinishFinish to start the installation.

In Designer mode (no hardware key), PrintShop Mail only allows the printing of 25 recordsper session, with a watermark. A hardware key is provided with a license purchase to removethis limitation.

To install the hardware key, locate the printer (LPT) port on your computer, which looks likethis:

Unplug the printer cable from this port. After inserting the hardware key, reattach the printercable on the back of the hardware key. The hardware key can differ slightly in appearancefrom the picture below.

To verify that the hardware key is installed correctly, start PrintShop Mail and choose “CreditInformation” from the “Help” menu to view the number of records remaining on thehardware key.

How to automate printing?

Suppose you have installed PrintShop Mail in C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail 4.0 like inthis example:

1-Create a Shortcut of the PSMail40U.exe. Point to the PSMail40U.exe, click with the rightmouse button and select Create Shortcut.

2-Create a PrintShop Mail job and save it on the same directory where the Shortcut is,C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail 4.0. The name of the job I created for this example isExample.psm.

Tip: You can always save the document in another directory but keep in mind that later youhave to copy the full path where you save the application in the Shortcut.

3-Copy and Paste the database you used in your PrintShop Mail in the same directory. Thename of the database I used in this example is Example.dbf


4-Right click on the Shortcut you created before . Go to Properties/Shortcut/Target. Here youwill see a line “C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail 4.0\PSMail40u.exe”. To this line add thepath of the PrintShop Mail job, enclosed this line between quotes, it will look like:“C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail 4.0\PSMail40u.exe” “C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail4.0\Example.psm”

Now we are ready to add command lines:-p: “C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail 4.0\PSMail40u.exe” “C:\Program Files\PrintShopMail 4.0\Example.psm” -p -dbWhen you Drag and Drop the database to the shortcut, it will print the specified documentto the default printer.


-pt: “C:\Program Files\PrintShop Mail 4.0\PSMail40u.exe” “C:\Program Files\PrintShopMail 4.0\Example.psm”-pt -dbWhen you Drag and Drop the database to the shortcut, it will open the Print Dialog whereyou can choose to which printer you want to print and you can change the PrinterSettings.

In both cases the only thing you need to do is Drag and Drop the database to the shortcut.

Now you can open the printer folder and Drag and Drop the PrintShop Mail job to thespecified printer.
