PSFHS Winter Folk Harp Festival at Seabeck Conference Center February 10-12, 2017 presented by the Puget Sound Folk Harp Society Administrative Director: Sally Verrinder, [email protected] Program Director: Harper Tasche, [email protected] Our 31 st Winter Folk Harp Festival! Join us for another wonderful weekend of harp music, workshops, and fun with your favorite harp friends at the beautiful Seabeck Conference Center on the Kitsap Peninsula. Who can attend? Anyone interested in the folk harp! If you want to attend workshops and play at the harp circle you are welcome as a harp participant, regardless of skill level – our group includes everyone, from beginners to professionals. Harpers under 18 are welcome too; e-mail Sally for details. Non-harping companion? Keep reading! How much does it cost? For harp participants, $235 includes all activities, lodging, and six family-style meals, plus snacks and beverages; the cost for non-harping companions is $209, including lodging, meals, after-hours music, and the céilidh (but not the workshops or the harp circle). The Society has some needs- based tuition assistance available for harp participants; contact Sally for details. Sorry, we are not able to offer partial registrations. Where do we stay? There are two lodging options: 1) Single-occupancy bedroom with community bathrooms and showers down the hall and 2) Double-occupancy bedrooms with a full bathroom/shower. The registration price is the same. These options will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Please indicate your first and second choice on the registration form. What’s the schedule? Come Friday afternoon after 4:00 to settle in, greet friends, tune, and relax. After dinner we’ll learn this year’s new group tunes, followed by an all-play with the PSFHS Songbook, then impromptu after-hours music-making for anyone who wants to join in and make it happen! Saturday has three workshops, harp circle, céilidh and more music-making after that. Sunday we’ll enjoy another Songbook all- play followed by announcements, group photo, lunch and fond farewells. What are the workshops? Along with the céilidh (Patrice Haan) and *two* all-plays (Diane Moss and Harper Tasche): Therapeutic Harp Arranging, with Laurie Riley. Discover the basics of adapting harp music for use in a variety of therapeutic situations, starting with tunes you already know. Renaissance Dance Tunes, with Laura Zaerr. Learn the difference between a pavane, bransle, etc., in this overview of great tunes from the Age of Dance. Accompaniment Patterns, with Philip Boulding. Build and polish your left-hand pattern options, for tunes both ancient and modern. Group Tunes Plus, with Harper Tasche. Learn this year’s new group tunes, plus background information about each tune and its cultural context. How do I sign up? Complete your registration form and mail it along with a check payable to the Puget Sound Folk Harp Society. The Festival usually fills quickly, so mail your registration soon! Lodging options are on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Postmark is the determining factor. The Puget Sound Folk Harp Society strives to provide equal access to its programs and services for all people without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability. ! Participants may bring alcoholic beverages, but are responsible for ensuring they are consumed only by those 21 years of age and over. ! Trained service animals (as defined by law) are welcome at Society events; the animal's owner assumes full responsibility for the animal’s actions at all times. ! Questions? Ask Sally, [email protected], (425) 881-0952.
