In this season of Remembrance, prayer and reflection we invite you to remember to pray for all your family and friends who have died. The belief that our prayers can be of assistance to our deceased relatives and friends is a treasured tradition of our Catholic faith. THE BOOK OF THE NAMES OF THE DECEASED I invite you to inscribe the names of your family and friends, those you wish to be remembered, in THE BOOK OF THE NAMES OF THE DECEASED. From the 1st Nov this will be displayed at the front of the church, the Pascal Candle will be lit next to the book, symbolising that the deceased have shared in the waters of Baptism, dying with Christ and rising to new life. THURSDAY 1ST NOV: FEAST OF ALL SAINTS - ALL HALLOWS We honour the ‘holy men and women of every time and place’ who rejoice in God’s presence, the towering figures like Augustine, Francis, Theresa of Avila, as well as Dominic Barberi, John Henry Newman and the humble saints of our family and friends, grandparents, parents and teachers who lived their faith to the full. FRIDAY 2ND NOV FEAST OF ALL SOULS Please consider coming to the 12.15pm lunchtime Mass in St James when we pray for all the Faithful Departed. Together we ask God to be merciful to them and give them a home in heaven. CANDLES - our taper candles cost 28p each. Please bear this is mind when making your donations. Many people light candles without making a donation. RECENTLY DIED Fr Tom Foley died on Saturday 20th October in Ireland. He celebrated his 70th anniversary of Ordination this year and he was an assistant priest here at St James & many will remember him. LAUDATO SI ACTION CAMPAIGN Thank you for feedback and ideas following last month's launch of the Parish Laudato Si initiative. We hope that you're all managing to use some of our ideas to cut down on plastic waste! Our next topic is 'Combating Poverty' and the new leaflet will be issued 3rd and 4th November. We can see evidence of poverty all around us. Please continue to support our efforts and please let us have your own ideas and suggestions.
