Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man’s behalf!

—Psalm 66:5 (NIV 1984)

As you read through this impact report, we hope you understand that these are not

MAF’s stories. They are your stories—and ultimately, God’s stories. Because you are

faithful, MAF is able to share the love of Jesus in some of the most remote places on the

planet. You opened the doors and Christ transformed lives. Please be encouraged by this

glance at some of what you made possible in 2014.

Sharing the Love of Jesus in Remote Areas

Over 40 years ago, MAF began flights to the village of Soba in Papua, Indonesia, to support the work of missionaries and local church members as they translated the Bible into the Hupla language. In 2014 MAF celebrated with the villagers as they dedicated the completed Bible translation—only the third complete Bible translation out of 250+ languages in Papua.

In July MAF flew six Bible teachers to a four-day conference organized by churches around the village of Moba in western Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). An estimated 6,000 people attended to hear these speakers, some walking more than 90 miles. On the last day of the conference, 269 people were baptized in a nearby river.

In Mozambique, the MozMed doctors and a local evangelist were flown by MAF to conduct clinic visits for four days in four different villages. They brought along video equipment, lent by an MAF family, to show the “JESUS” film dubbed in the local Makuwa language. There was a huge turnout for each showing and a total of some 1600 people, in this overwhelmingly Muslim area, were exposed to the Gospel.

“MAF has been like a guardian angel for those of us who have been living in a rural setting. In my lifetime, MAF has always been there during peace and war, in sickness and in health, for the young and for the old. Through all the half century of instability of Congo, MAF has provided stability to the growing church.”

—Glen Chapman, American Baptist International Ministries, Kikongo, WDRC

Flying to Save Lives

In response to typhoid and dysentery outbreaks in western DRC, MAF flew a medical team and 1,782 pounds of supplies, mainly IV fluids and calorie dense food for malnourished children.

MAF was called to Qacha’s Nek in the mountains of Lesotho to transport seven people critically injured in a bus crash to a better-equipped medical facility.  Three airplanes were needed to handle the patients, including an 81-year-old woman with a broken femur, who was considered one of the more stable ones.

Beginning in August, MAF responded to an Ebola outbreak in the Boende region of the DRC. MAF carried 109 health workers to and from the remote area and delivered some 14,000 pounds of medical equipment and supplies. By God’s grace, the DRC was declared Ebola-free in mid-November. A PC-12 aircraft, which your gifts made possible, arrived on the field just in time to help with these flights.

MAF transported a medical team from Village Partners International to Mombin Crochu, Haiti. In one week, the team performed 300 dental and 41 surgical procedures, treated 142 patients, distributed 262 pairs of eyeglasses, and taught doctors and nurses.

Building Better Communities

While drilling a well for the community of Raymond Grand Caille, Haiti, CrossWorld staff discovered the final part of the deep-well pump was missing. The next day MAF flew the part from Port-au-Prince, sparing CrossWorld a several hour bone-jarring ride each way—allowing the well to be completed much more quickly. The people had previously walked up to five hours to get water.

In the remote mountains of Papua, MAF continued its outreach to the village of Esrotnamba, using a floatplane to deliver food, medicine, and metal roofing for a clinic and school. Since MAF began serving this area in 2012 the people have clean skin as a result of soap that is flown in. Children are able to sit and learn because they’re no longer afflicted by itchy skin disorders.

“MAF makes us more efficient at what we do, which translates to more people served, more people reached in the name of Christ. I am glad for MAF. You are a great partner in our work, a critical piece in pulling off the things we do. Thank you for fulfilling your unique role in demonstrating God’s love to the people of Haiti and around the world.”

—Steve Edmondson, founder/president of Starfysh

Transforming Lives with Technology and Training

MAF conducted 14 certified professional IT training courses in the DRC, Indonesia, and one restricted-access country. A total of 73 participants received instruction in basic and advanced wireless networking, advanced bandwidth management, or basic VSAT installation. People came from miles around, from Christian health organizations, universities, local service providers, and national companies … all hoping to use their new skills to make a difference in their respective countries.

In El Salvador, 105 rural pastors were trained by MAF. In partnership with Millennium Ministries, United World Mission, and The Grace Institute, the pastors received tablets and DVDs containing theological training and resources. MAF staff taught them how to use the new technology and provided teaching principles so they could effectively train other remote pastors.

At workshops in Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea, the U.S., Panama, India, and a restricted access country, MAF trained 184 people to share the Gospel using the StoryFire Bible storytelling and discussion method.

In a difficult part of Asia, MAF installed 75 new VSAT communication systems, improving communication for NGOs working on health care, agriculture, and other development projects.

“The goal that we have to have in our hearts from now on is transformation, and now we have to teach that to our churches. That’s the challenge that MAF left us in these teachings. And we want to give thanks to all of you and bless you because I know that my life changed. I’m not going to be the same.”

—Pastor Mauricio, attendee at the El Salvador conference
