“Brush up on your 50’s Dances”
Get back into Swing for the Sock HopRhode Island Coalition for the Homeless will be host of the Sock Hop event on Saturday,
October 29th, 2011 from 3 to 6 pm. The dance will be held at Mathewson Street Church
located at 134 Mathewson St, Providence, RI.
The Sock Hop fundraiser will support the homeless with socks and hosiery in preparation for this
winter while participates enjoy an afternoon of dance as they freshen up on their dance moves.
Lessons for Sock Hop are $5 per person, per lesson. Lessons will be offered on the day of the
dance by Instructor Diana Freeman—Former Ballroom Dancer & Dance Studio Instructor.
Don’t feel left out! Come in for lessons on the day of where you will learn the basics in: Fox
Trot, Rumba, Waltz, Cha-Cha, Swing, Tango, Samba, Salsa, Merengue and Stroll. Our first
dance lessons will cover the five points of contact, counts, beats, measures, rhythms and
maintaining balance.

The Rhode Coalition for the Homeless is organized to promote and preserve the dignity
and quality of life for men, women, and children by pursuing comprehensive and
cooperative solutions to the problems of housing and homelessness and prevention of
homelessness. This is accomplished through advocacy, education, collaboration, technical
assistance, and selected direct services provided to individuals and families and families
who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless, coalition members, elected officials,
and the community at large.
