Raise the front of the vehicle off the floor and place on stands, wheels must be free to turnduring installation, priming and valve adjustment.

1. Detach long hoses from pump, 2. Remove short hoses from 3. Remove cotter pin and slotted 4. Detach pitman arm from ball stud

catching any fluid that drains out. valve to cylinder. nut from ball stud. using a small pitman arm puller or a gear puller.

5. Loosen clamp and remove old 6. Remove grease fitting on link 7. Install new control valve onto center link. For correct position of valvevalve by unscrewing it off center and replace with 1/8" allen insert measure distance between cylinder shoulder bolt on the center link andlink. plug provided. valve ball stud. The distance should be 20 ½" center to center, + 1/16",

11. Attach curved ends of new hoses to valve in the positions shown. Attach straight end of new hoses to cylinder. Double check for correct hose routing.(BOTTOM outlet of valve connects to FRONT outlet of cylinder).Tighten all hoses and unions with flare-nut wrenches.

PRIMING THE SYSTEM

Fill pump with TYPE A or DEXRON ATF or equivalent. DO NOT START THE ENGINE. With wheels still in the air, have a helperturn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock while you observe for hose binding or any other obstruction. Make any adjustments

necessary. Refill pump with fluid. Turn back and forth several times, until no more fluid can be added to pump.

DO NOT START ENGINE

CENTERING THE CONTROL VALVEWith wheels still in the air, disconnect the cylinder shaft from the mounting bracket attached to the frame. Position the cylinder so

that the shaft will not be obstructed even at full extension. Position the shaft about halfway out of the cylinder.

At the end of the valve is a 7/16" adjusting nut. After valve is centered install the dust cap.

Have a helper start the engine while you observe the cylinder shaft movement.

IF THE SHAFT MOVES OUT: Turn the adjusting nut COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until the rod begins to retract. Now turn the nutclockwise while counting the number of turns necessary to make the rod extend again. Divide the number in half and turn the

adjusting nut counterclockwise by this amount.

IF THE SHAFT MOVES IN: Turn the adjusting nut CLOCKWISE until the rod begins to extend. Now turn the nut counterclockwisewhile counting the number of turns necessary to make the rod retract again. Divide this number in half and turn the adjusting nut

clockwise by this amount.

IF THE SHAFT DOES NOT MOVE, VALVE IS ALREADY CENTERED. PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEPS.

Pack end of valve with chassis lube and install end cap. Install cylinder shaft to frame bracket. Lower the vehicle, check fluid leveland test drive.

DO NOT GREASE THE CONTROL VALVE AFTER INSTALLATION.The control valve is already greased during assembly. When performing routine maintenance at a later date, lubricate the valve with

only one hand pump from a manual grease gun, never use a pneumatic or electric grease gun.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Follow these instructions to solve any problems. If you have any questions please call 972-552-2221.

LEAK:After installing valve, it is important to use FLARE NUT OR LINE WRENCHES to tighten all connections.Standard 2-flat open wrenches will not provide enough grip on the flare nut of the hose fittings. Thoroughlywipe down the component with a clean cloth to remove any excess fluid. Observe the component for leaksover several days.

FUNCTION:POWER STEERING IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY:Please read and follow the instructions “CENTERING THE CONTROL VALVE” above.

HARD TO CENTER OR NO CENTER ADJUSTMENT:It is important that the BALL STUD IS CENTERED IN THE CASTING in which it is assembled, see Page 1Section AA. If the stud is jammed against one side of the opening in the casting, it will cause friction and thevalve cannot be adjusted properly. To center the stud, complete the installation of the valve as per theinstructions above, including hoses and pitman arm. Loosen the clamping bolt, rotate the valve back andforth on the link, then position it halfway. Tighten the clamping bolt.
