Leave it to our fantastic Vice Presidents to get the job done, no matter what! Get ready for an amazing visitor, and it isn’t cupid! As we cele- brate the “Valentine Month” of February, 2015, we mustn’t over- look the fact that February is also the month for BIRTHDAYS of two former presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. In fact, Ronald Reagan and William Henry Harrison were also February babies. So, while you’re finishing your patriotic cherry pie at our Luncheon Meeting, BE ON THE LOOKOUT for one of these four! Hint: the one who practiced law in Central Illinois. You guessed it! Honest Abe will be visiting us in February 2015 at All States Club!!! INTRODUCING LONN PRESSNALL as ABRAHAM LINCOLN Professor, Actor and Lincoln Impersonator Lonn Pressnall portrays Abraham Lincoln with respect and appreciation for Lincoln’s dignity and humor. Lincoln was a native genius with a command of American and British poetry, especially Shakespeare. Lonn brings to life Lincoln’s love of theatre, his fascination with machines and technology, his interest in river and railway transportation, the law and constitution, and the Divine Providence. Lonn resides in Forsyth, Illinois, just north of where Lincoln’s family first settled in Illinois. As a former academic and theater professor, Lonn had once harbored ambitions of becoming a professional actor and a playwright, but life and family obligations put practicality before creative goals. Now in retirement, Lonn enjoys the simpler things in life, like fishing, poker and enjoying his family and nature. Though Lonn discovered Lincoln relatively late in life, presenting Lincoln has offered him a new opportunity to fulfill his artistic ambitions. As you look at the 3 photos below, find the one that is the real Mr. Lincoln. Yes, it’s the one in the middle! First, you might be prompted to say, “No, Decatur All States Club is not related to Allstates insurance.” Then you go on to explain that the club was formed in October 1943 by a group of women who had moved to Decatur from other states and wanted a means to get to know others living here. “We called it the All States Newcomers Club,” said Darla D. Weltmer, currently an advisor and a former President, along with being a 38 year member! The group is not affiliated with any national groups. In 1943 Delores Eshelman Lueck recognized this need that newcomers to Decatur face, and she was determined to do some- thing to make the move to Decatur a more welcoming experi- ence for women who were new to the community. With that goal in mind, Eshelman was instrumental in the founding of a club to welcome newcomers to town. The mission of the club was “to promote friendship and sociability among newcomers to the city of Decatur and endeavor to make all members welcome and happy in Decatur.” Then the club decided to open the membership to women who had always lived here. The club grew. Membership generally hovers around 200. As of January, 2015, there are 187 members. Membership is open to women living in Decatur and the surrounding area. The 2015 membership co-chairmen are Barb Toney and Carol Foy. If someone wants to join, they may call Barb or Carol, attend a small group or a monthly meeting as a guest, and sign up on the spot if they wish! Realtors have often promoted the organization to their new homebuyers from out of state. Membership is $20 per year, and entitles members to join Small Groups, receive the monthly newsletter Bits ‘N’ Pieces, receive a Directory, and attend monthly luncheon meetings ($10) at Scovill Banquet Center on the 1st Thursday of each month, except July and August, featuring a program speaker or special activity. In addition, we have a Website. Go to: www.decaturall - statesclub.weebly.com and find out more! Our motto is “For Others,” which simply means we love getting to know others and making others our friends! What to say if someone asks you… What is All States Club? The way we were, 1943.
