Proyecto La Ciudad

Today you will be researching a specific city in a Spanish-speaking country. You may want to choose one of the capital cities that we learned earlier in the year, or one of the following cities in Spain:

Toledo, Barcelona, Granada, Valencia, Pamplona, Málaga, Bilbao, Cordoba, Salamanca, Leon, or another city of your choosing.

Paso 1Step 1

Research some of the places of interest for your city. These could be cathedrals, museums, beaches, statues, airports, etc.

On your project planning sheet, list five (or up to ten, for extra points) places that you will include on your map. Be sure to save visuals of these places, so that you can draw them appropriately on your map.

Paso 2Step 2

When you have found all of the places that you want to include on your map, choose one place to write extensively about. You will write this information on your project planning guide.

Task: Draw the city Layout

• Look at the examples of projects from former students

• Review the list of 20 items that will be included in your city.

• Review the city-specific items that will be part of your city map

• Begin to lay out the plan for your city• Sketch the city plaza and add streets and city blocks• When you have the city blocks set up you will need

to begin to add stores/shops/museums/ and other buildings. Once you have drawn it on your map, check it off of your list.

• Remember that each shop/museum, etc. needs to have a label and a visual to let me know that you understand that vocabulary.

By the end of today…

• Your actual city should be decided and you should have 5 (minimum) pictures of buildings or structures in the actual city.

• Your street layout should be completed on your map.

• You should have 20 shops, or other buildings listed, named, and you should have a start on drawing them on your map.

Task: The Roads

• Look at the examples of projects from former students

• Review the list of required Streets (Calles)/ Avenues (Avenidas)/ and Roads (Caminos) that need to be in your city.

• Give each of your roadways a name according to the requirements.

Task: Transportation

• Look at the examples of projects from former students

• Review the list of required forms of transportation that need to be on your map.

• Add and label each form of transportation to your map.

• Use a map to locate 2 other cities in the country where you city is located.

• Add road signs to your map to show how far each city is from your city. (Use kilometros!)

• Be able to tell me the number of kilometros and whether the city is to the north, south, etc. of your city.
