GPA and Class Rank
Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed on a 4.0 scale as follows:
1. Quality points are assigned per semester of coursework on the basis of A-4, B-3, and C-2, D-1, and F-0. One extra quality point is added for each Advanced or Honors course passed each semester. Two extra quality points are added for each Advanced Placement course passed each semester.
2. The GPA is computed by dividing the total number of quality points by the total number of semesters.
3. Students must take 8 courses per year. Each course successfully completed receives 1 credit, except for AP Science Labs which do not receive any credit.
Class rank is determined by the weighted GPA at the end of the first semester of the junior year; and at the beginning, middle and end of senior year.
Credit is assigned at the end of the course.

In addition, Newsweek Magazine ranked Providence High School the number one high school in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and 186th in the nation’s top 500 high schools! We currently rank 5th in the state for overall performance and we were ranked by Charlotte Magazine as the region’s best high school in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Our students have the highest average SAT score in the Charlotte region and our Advanced Placement course passage rate is the highest in CMS.
