Twentieth annual Dublin Peanut Festival set to kick off

DUBLIN — It’s salty, roast-ed, plain, green and boiled. It’s also the star of our show, better known to us as Bladen County’s finest peanuts.

We celebrate the peanut the third Saturday of September each year with the Dublin Peanut Festival. This years’ date is Sept. 15. The festival is held in Dublin, also known as the Peanut Capital of the South. It is the home of Houston’s Peanuts, that is known and whose pea-nuts are shipped world wide.

Our festival kicks off at 10 a.m. with a parade. This year we are honored to have leading our parade The Army Ground Forces Band from Fort Bragg. When the parade ends, a day to be remembered begins.

We will have the Classic Cruisers Car Show, Craft and Food Vendors, barbe-cue plate sale, Kiddie and Women’s Tractor Pull, Corn Hole Tournament, Five Thrill Seeker Mechanical Rides, Huge Bounce Houses (Some are two stories high), Golf Car Drunk Driving Simulated Course, The Nationwide Nascar Show Car and Race Car Simulator that is just waiting for a driver, Games for the Kids, Our Own Secret Recipe Hot Dogs Sausage Dogs and Steak and Chicken Fajitas. Our Entertainment Line Up is sure to keep you moving all day long. It leads off with Friends of Jesus, followed by The Main Event Band, next up Coastline Band and ending the show will be Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band.

This is sure to be our best fes-tival yet. We our 20 years strong and so proud of what we have accomplished. We are all about our local schools and our com-munity. Please visit our website at www.dublinpeanutfestival.com and read About Us. Our committee looks forward to seeing each and everyone of you have a great memorable day. The Friends of Jesus are from Lumberton. They love singing about the Lord Jesus and telling oth-ers through their songs, how great the Lord is and how He gave His only Son to die for our sins that we may have life eternal.

The group consists of bass singer Ernie Hinson, lead singer Ms. Sharon Hinson, baritone singer Wesley Walters and tenor Anita Saxon.

They have been sing-ing many years and have traveled through many of our great states to do just that. They have 2 projects which are on the market and are presently work-ing on a third. Come on out and enjoy the sounds of great southern gospel music with a twist.

The Main Event BandThe Main Event Band is the ultimate party band, per-forming R&B, Soul, Beach, Country, and Funk. Their performances also include music styles from the 80’s and 90’s as well as your favorite songs of today. Featuring top-notch vocals, a tight rhythm section, and one of the best horn sections around, The Main Event Band offers a quality performance that is hard to rival. Members of the band are: Scott Pagona on trum-pet and vocals; Al Woodruff on guitar and vocals; Jeremiah Miller on sax; Ken Hardee on keyboards; Marlo Rouse on drums; an d John Downing on bass and vocals.

Jim Quick is the kind of guy you genuinely want to call a friend. With the charm only a true southerner can possess, he brings his talent to the stage with a quick-witted, knee-slap-ping sense of humor coupled with the clear sincerity of his love for his craft.

Quick and Coastline have been touring the Southeast U.S. for 20 years, playing nearly 300 shows per year, and has released more than 11 albums.

Originally introducing their music as the Coastline Band, the group pushed Quick to the forefront and naturally transformed into Jim Quick & Coastline. Known for their all-out performances and deliber-ate, off-the-cuff wisecracks, Jim Quick and Coastline are sure to entertain.
