PROTIS - an Icelandic innovation company PROTIS was founded in 2015 and is owned by FISK Seafood ltd. The company’s focus is on the commercialization of Icelandic cod proteins, IceProtein® with proven health benefits for use in dietary supplements, AMÍNÓ®. The company’s mission is to leverage the accumulated knowledge that Iceprotein and FISK Seafood have gained through decades of research and practices within the seafood sector to provide unique fish proteins for the benefits on individual health.

Iceprotein – an Icelandic R&D company Iceprotein was founded in 2005 and is owned by FISK Seafood ltd. The R&D focus is on increased utilization of marine resources and improved quality of the fragile marine raw material. Iceprotein has pioneered a unique bioactive cod protein (IceProtein®) production from under-utilized raw material for the use in dietary supplements.

FISK Seafood – an Icelandic seafood company FISK Seafood was established in 1955 in the town of Sauðárkrókur in North-west Iceland, and embraces land-based as well as sea-based fish production. In cooperation with Iceprotein, Icelandic research institutes, and Icelandic high-tech companies, the company has pioneered a unique sub-cooling process on board their trawlers and throughout the value chain that ensures the preservation of fragile marine raw material resulting in top quality of their final products.

The companies are located in the town of Sauðárkrókur in Northwest Iceland

IceProtein® – a pure fish protein from Iceland

• A unique hydrolysed fish protein derived exclusively from wild Atlantic cod living off the coast of Iceland in the world’s purest sea.

• An Icelandic innovation that ensures complete utilization of a unique marine resource for human consumption.

• Produced with social and environmental responsibility at the forefront, by fully utilization of a valuable marine resource to benefit future generation.

• Produced from a natural source certified by Marine Stewardship Council for sustainability and Iceland Responsible Fisheries for origin of fish catches.

• Produced from raw material that has been harvested and processed under unique sub-cooled conditions to ensure preservation of the fragile bioactive and life essential marine amino acids from catch to capsules.

What are the benefits?

IceProtein® and weight managementInternational studies indicate that fish proteins treated with water and enzymes (hydrolysed protein) stimulate cholecystokinin (CCK) and glucagon-like pep-tide-1 (GLP-1) secretion, which are satiation signal regulators1,2. IceProtein® is an enzymatically hydrolysed cod protein.

IceProtein® and hypertensionResearch carried out in 2014 indicates the potential of hydrolysed cod protein to inhibit blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats3. More recently, an in-vitro study demonstrated the anti-hypertensive activity of cod proteins4. Moreover, IceProtein® is naturally rich in arginine, which is known to play an important role in anti-hypertensive activity.

IceProtein® and inflammationA study carried out by Dort et al., 20135 showed that cod protein has a beneficial effect on inflammatory response in rat skeletal muscle repair following injury due to naturally high amounts of arginine, glycine and taurine. IceProtein® is a cod protein and thus, contains these amino acids.

IceProtein® and blood glucoseHydrolysed cod protein is described as being able to lower postprandial blood glucose and reduce insulin resistance in individuals suffering from persistent high blood glucose levels6. IceProtein® is a hydrolysed cod protein.

IceProtein® and obesity-related type 2 diabetes (T2D)Dietary cod protein beneficially affect lipid metabolism and postprandial glucose regulation in obese rats7. IceProtein® is a hydrolysed cod protein. Moreover, eating protein before a carbohydrate-rich meal improves post-meal glucose and insulin levels in obese patients with T2D8.

IceProtein® techniqueIceProtein® is processed according to the IceProtein® technique, where the fish protein is treated with Icelandic spring water and enzymes before being filtered, leaving the protein consisting only of small bioactive peptides. Global studies have proven cod proteins to be particularly healthy due to their natural mixture of important amino acids such as glutamine, leucine, lysine and arginine. Several studies have shown that amino acids bonded in peptides (hydrolysed protein) enter the bloodstream faster than free amino acids and amino acids bonded in intact proteins. The IceProtein® technique ensures that the amino acids are bonded in peptides.
