    Heresy- obstinate adherence of abaptized Christian to some errorsdirectly opposed to any article of

    Faith, that is, to a Truth which theChurch proposes for our belief, asbeing revealed by God. A person iscalled heretic in this regard.

    Excommunicationa processhereby a person is declared by theChurch to be out of her fold.

    Definition of Terms

    Schism- is a revolt against theauthority of the Church, a formalseparation from the unity of the

    Church. In itself it is not a sin againstfaith, but a grave sin ofdisobedience. In most caseshowever, it is joined with heresy,

    because the schismatic as a rule,also denies the supreme ruling andteaching power of the Pope, which isan article of faith. A person who

    holds such view is called schismatic.
