Low Level Elevator Control

Protege GX is not limited to controlling access to doors. Buildings that have elevators often require access to floors to be controlled as well. Elevator integration links elevator control systems with ICT’s Protege system to increase building security and improve the flow of people.

How it works:User details are extracted from the third party system via the systems reporting function and saved to a network folder. The Data Sync Service picks this file up automatically, and imports the user data into ProtegeGX, creating user records and linking access levels with the matched entity between the systems. Multiple entries and groups are supported.

The information will be stored on the card, and will travel with the user. Any time the user accesses a wire-free stand alone lock the process will start again, obtaining all the information related to the access of the user.

And at the same time the system will update the locks with the latest key cancelled list (the black list) and will obtain the battery status of each escutcheon or e-cylinder.

Warn all the locks that Mrs. Nice has lost her key, she is black listed.

When the user accesses a “Hot Spot” reader, the card will download all the information obtained from the reader which is then sent to the PC and in turn the card will be updated.

ArmorIP

The ArmorIP protocol takes a ContactID message and encapsulates it inside a TCP/IP message. Along with this is the ability to add additional information if it is available, such as panel name, event time, panel type, serial number, zone or user name, and much more. This data is all transmitted across the internet to the monitoring station.

Building Automation

-Access control systems hold a wealth of data about a building and the occupants – who is onsite, where they are, and even where they are likely to be going.

-Knowing when an area is occupied and how many people are in a room, allows for tight integration with air conditioning, lighting and other building systems.

-Extend efficiency by using this data to make some intelligent decisions around how the building is run.

ProtegeGX Web Client – Multi-Tenant

The web client provides an ideal solution for multi-tenanted buildings where each tenant has their own isolated network and where traditional software would be complicated and expensive to install. The web client uses the tenant’s own internet connection, simplifying installation while allowing each tenant to manage and control their users, areas, access levels, and schedules.

Key Advantages:No software to deploy to client PCs.Simple management of operator access to split systemsIncreased network security.Easier servicing for technicians with an internet enabled mobile device.Cross-platform.Ease of access for end users.

Security

Most other reader interfaces are susceptible to replay attacks, where it is possible to ‘record’ the data being sent from the reader and play this back at a later date to gain unlawful access. Once this data stream has been collected, it is possible to use it again and again, even to access other doors.

ICT’s RS-485 protocol is bi-directional, meaning the controller is not just listening for card reads, but is in constant communication with the card reader. This removes the ability to simply replay a data stream to gain access and means that any interference with the reader cabling will be detected within seconds.

Being a bi-directional communication protocol, data encryption is also possible for high security sites. Couple this with an encrypted DESfire card solution and ArmorIP for offsite monitoring, you have a fully encrypted communications path right from the card to the server.

Page 42: ProtegeGx Overview 2016

Installation

From an installation point of view, using the RS-485 reader interface can lead to significant savings in labour and materials over a larger project. Fewer conductors to connect at each end and more cost effective cable options mean the physical installation is faster and lower cost. Programming is also easier, as there are no reader or keypad formats to be programmed. While these don’t sound like a big deal, over a larger project this can save a significant amount of time, meaning the installation team will be off site in less time.

Using a twisted pair cable for data transmission provides the RS-485 interface with a much higher level of noise immunity. This makes it more robust and allows for longer cable runs of up to 3000ft (900m) compared with 500ft (150m) for a Wiegand interface.

Being a bi-directional communication protocol, RS-485 also means corrupted or dropped card reads are a thing of the past.

Installation

ICT's RS-485 interface allows both home run and multi-drop wiring configurations, giving you the flexibility to use existing cabling on system upgrades and keep cabling costs to a minimum on new systems.
