I am happy to learn that the National Headquarters established the 2nd National Adventure Institute at Kurseong, West Bengal as a joint venture between the National Headquarters and State Association. I congrat-ulate all for the innovative efforts to utilize the properties of the association for providing the activities the youth need.

National Headquarters enters into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Himalayan Mountaineering Inst itute, Darjeeling to provide technical training on mountaineering and allied sports. This will provide priority to members of the association in participating in courses organized by HMI.

I am given to understand that despite the challenges of the Covid second wave, National Headquarters organized the growth coordina-tors training and Prepared to Learn, Prepared to Lead training physically. This will help us to keep momentum of the activities of the association and bring more young people to the associa-tions fold.

The months of April to July will bring heat waves across the country and we need to get prepared to help the community to overcome the difficulties of heat wave. Our members should

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” said Martin Luther King”. In these times when the world is engulfed by covid-19 pandemic situation it becomes extremely important for every individual to take social responsibility and help each other to the best of their ability.

As we are all aware, the covid-19 situation all over the world has once again become a matter of grave concern for all of us. Despite an extensive and far reaching vaccinat ion programme being implemented at Pan-India level, the covid-19 cases continue to surge rapidly. The Government of India as well as state governments are leaving no stone unturned to tackle this pandemic situation by upscaling the medical infrastructure and ensuring that all medical protocols are been followed by all, to break the infection chain in the community.

During the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic in the year 2020, when the country was fighting the unknown virus, the members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, in an effort to fulfil their promise of “duty towards the nation”, rendered selfless service to their respective communities in the war against the deadly virus. Our services during covid-19 pandemic in year 2020 were widely acknowl-edged and highly appreciated by the local govern-ment bodies as well as Government of India, which not only made visible the work/programmes undertaken by the members of the Bharat Scouts

and Guides but also motivated the members to participate in community programmes on a larger scale and facilitate spreading awareness regarding the deadly virus.

Taking forward the work/ programmes undertaken by the Bharat Scouts and Guides to spread aware-ness against Covid-19, I request all the rover/rangers and unit leaders of the Bharat Scouts and Guides to continue to work on awareness initiatives and educate masses regarding use of face masks, social distancing norms and hand sanitization as preventive measure to inhibit the spread of covid-19 virus.

Further, it gives me immense pleasure to share with all of you that the Bharat Scouts and Guides has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bharat Scouts and Guides, West Bengal & Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and established another National Adventure Institute at Kurseong, Darjeeling, West Bengal which was inaugurated on 6th April, 2021.

Reviewing the situation of COVID-19 pandemic and as per the guidelines issued by the govern-ment, the Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters and State Associations has started to organise the camps, events, training courses and meetings with limited number of participants as a membership retention strategy.

Recently, the Bharat Scouts and Guides has inaugurated it’s 2nd National Adventure Institute at Kurseong, Darjeeling as a joint venture between The Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters and Bharat Scouts and Guides, West Bengal State Association. A MoU was also signed between Bharat Scouts and Guides, Nat ional Headquarters and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HIM), Darjeeling with a mission Adventure with Scouting and to promote adventure amongst the youth of the country. The First Adventure Programme was organised at the newly established Adventure Institute from 5th to 9th April, 2021. The foundation stone of National Adventure Institute was also laid down by Dr. H.P. Chhetri, Chief Commissioner (Scouts) on behalf of the Chief National Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides.

HER WORLD HER VOICE” (UPS) PROJECT

Ms.Himanshi Tomar,Project Manager “Her World Her Voice” reports that the Project Team has been actively working on getting more new rangers and U-Reporters enrolled in 12 states – Assam, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Goa. The covid-19 pandemic has been the biggest challenge in achieving the targets but the team overcoming the barriers are majorly focusing

on getting newer U-Reporters registered through virtual meets and sessions with schools, colleges, and universities.

Prepared to learn Prepared to lead workshop was held at National Headquarters; New Delhi from 19th to 22nd March 2021. 39 participants from 21 State Associations and 20 Facilitators and Staff Members from different States of India participated with full Zeal and enthusiasm. inaugural ceremony was held on 19.3.2021 at 10:00 O clock.Dr. V Vijayalakshmi, National Commissioner (Guides) was the Chief Guest. Mr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director (BSG), Ms. DharshiniMugunam, Lead Facilitator, WAGGGS, BSG staff and facilitators of the event were present.

Workshop started with Icebreaker - “Merry Go Round”.Setting the expectations and seeking the expecta-tions is the key to good start.

In the 2nd session participants were introduced to 6 leadership mindsets curated by WAGGGS. There were 6 stations set-up with 6 different activities for 6 different mindsets such as `Understand and evaluate leadership action in local and global contexts, building meaningful connections with others through inclusive opportunities for shared leadership. “

Empower young participants with self-defence skills to defend themselves and their peer groups, was the 2nd day`s session. We started the day with Mr. Digvijay Tyagi, Gold medallist in mixed martial arts, boxing and wushu. He taught the participants self-defence techniques.

`Build a plan and Growing my leadership` was another sessionwherein participantsplanned a project connected to their position covering the practice of the six leadership mindsets. Participants prepared a leadership development plan that willhelp in their leadership journey.

The next session was for participants to practise and present their plans in front of a group and share the plan and share the leadership development plan with others.

Closing ceremony was started at 03:30 p.m. Mr. Madhusudan Avala - Dy.International Commissioner (S)was present as the Chief Guest and presented the certificates to the participants, Mr. Rajkumar Kaushik Director, Mr. Krishnaswamy R. Executive Director, Amar B.Chhetri Joint Director (S) Mr. Arup Sarkar Deputy Director Project , WAGGGS Representative, Facilitators, Staff and other dignitaries of the National Headquarters were present, the participants presented colourful cultural programme. Ms. Darshana Pawaskar Joint Director (G) thanked the WAGGGGS team and members who played an important role in making this workshop a success.

The workshop was successfully completed under the leadership of Ms. Darshana Pawaskar, Joint Director(G) and Ms. M.N.Machamma DDGLT with the help of WAGGGS representative team under the leadership of Ms.Dharshini Mugunam, Lead Facilitator, WAGGGS, Ms. Annina Kainu, Volunteer in WAGGGS for mission team, Ms Collete Stone, Volunteer in WAGGGS for mission team, Ms. Nadia EM Skeete, Volunteer in WAGGGS for mission team for leadership practice and consultant at Western Hemisphere, Regional Training Consultant and Bharat Scouts and Guides Staff and eight BSG facilitators from Andhra Pradesh- Mr.Vedadri Sai, Karnataka- Ms. Malleshwari and Ms. Sindhu, Meghalaya-Ms. Catherine Nagaland -Mr. K. K, Sikkim- Mr. Mukund Dhungal, Jammu & Kashmir- Mr. Haroon and Delhi-Ms. Sumanbala Singh.

The PRC on Membership Growth was conducted from 26th to 31st March 2021 in continuation of training programme for Coordinators of Membership Growth. Vision 2024 plan was reviewed and Action Plan was prepared for next 4 years based on the Membership Growth Plan of five years. All the professionals assured to achieve the target fixed for their areas. Other than the Growth, youth programme, good governance, communication, Adult Resources and finance priorities were also discussed in detail. The methodology of team work was also discussed and problem faced by the regions, NTC & NAI were discussed and sorted out. Mr. M.A. Khalid, Addnl. CNC and Mr. S.K. Biswas, National Commissioner for Scout (Adult Resources) were also present from 26th to 31st March and gave their expertise opinions. Dr. K.K. Khandelwal, Chief National Commissioner blessed the participants on 28th March and celebrated holi festival along with all the professionals. Revised guidelines and syllabus for Prime Minister Shield Competition and Upa-rashtrapati Award Competition was also finalised for approval of the executive committee. The schedule of events was also discussed and LOC for each programme will be informed before 15th April. All the staff were urged to get ready for Rashtrapati Testing and prepareatleast 100questions for each category and submit to the Director before 15th April. The Region has to prepare their action plan for 2021-22 based on the Vision 2024. Mr. Khalid and Mr. Biswas appealed to all to work as a team and family to achieve the target.

Overall the programme was successful and all agreed to achieve the target of 10 million scouts and guides by 2025.

1st National Adventure Programme was conducted at National Adventure Institute, Snow View Kurseong, Darjeeling from 05th to 09th April, 2021 under the Leadership of Smt. Surekha Shrivastava Dy. Director, NAI with the assistance of Mrs. Bilkish Shaikh, Jr. Instructor, Mr. Vivek Kumar Das, Jr. Instructor, along with Invited staff. 55 participants attended the programme from Rajasthan, E.Railway, N.F.Railway & West Bengal. During the programme, activities such as Obstacles Crossing at HMI Darjeeling and fun games were conducted. All the participants enjoyed the trekking to Temple, visited historical places Eagle Crag, Makibari tea estate, Dow Hill and Forest Museum. On 6 April 2021, Foundation stone for the National Adventure Institute was laid and 1st National Adventure Programme was inaugurated at Snow View, Kurseong by the chief guest Dr. H.P. Chettri, Chief Commissioner (S) in the presence of Shri Debaditya Chakraborty, IAS (Retd), State Chief Commissioner West Bengal, BSG who was the guest of Honour. Hon’ble Chief National Commissioner Dr. K.K. Khandelwal IAS(Retd.) and Shri Rajkumar Kaushik, Director, BSG were virtually present In this historical moment.A scout shop was also inaugurated.

The inaugural ceremony was virtually telecasted in which all the Office Bearers, staff of B.S.G, all the Assistant Directors of regional H.Q. were present. Shri Amar B. Chettri, Joint Director of Scouts (Programme and Training) welcomed all the guests. Shri S.K Biswas, National Commissioner of Scouts (Adult Resources), National Headquarters and State Commissioner (Scouts) of West Bengal State Bharat Scouts and Guides gave a brief history of Snow view camp site. Members of Darjeeling dist. association, Kurseong local association, All India Radio and local news channels were present in the programme. Scouts guides of local association and the participants of the camp presented a colourful cultural programme. Shri Jogender Prasad, State Commissioner (Cub), W.B., BSG, proposed vote of thanks. The grand campfire was conducted on 08thApril, 2021. Shri Amar B. Chettri and Shri Jogendra Prasad were present in the grand camp fire. The participants presented impressive programmes.

NATIONAL YOUTH ADVENTURE PROGRAMME

Special National Youth Adventure Programme was conducted at Manali, Himachal Pradesh from 17th to 21st March, 2021 in which 32 participants from Himachal Pradesh, Northern Railway, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand attended. The programme was started with prayer and Flag ceremony on 17th March, 2021. All the participants enjoyed the trekking to Parsha Fall Trek, Hadimba Temple, Rock climbing, Rappelling and obstacle Zip Line. Participants also visited Sishu and Atal Tannel. Acolourful grand camp fire was presented by the participants on 20th March, 2021which was enjoyed by all. Mr. Ram Kumar, Programme Officer, Haryana Education department blessed the participants in the open session. Closing ceremony took place by lowering the flag at noon and the programme came to an end with thanks to Almighty for the smooth running of the programme.

Essential Characteristics of Scouting 3. Team or Patrol SystemIn the earlier issues, we have discussed about 1. Law and Promise and 2. Learning by Doing. One of the aspects of scout method is `Team or Patrol system`. The Founder of the moment got this idea from the British army where the Army was divided into small groups of 6 to 8 for effective operations. This system worked out very well. He expected that the system of division into small groups work out well with the boys and hence he introduced Patrol System in the first experimental camp held at Brown Sea Island in 1907. The Patrol system yielded best results in terms of sharing of responsibility, in preparing a programme for themselves , leadership, co-ordination among themselves and with the Scout Master.

The main object of Patrol system is to give responsibility to as many boys as possible. It leads each member of the Patrol to take some individual responsibility for the good of his patrol. The Scouts in a patrol obeys the orders of his Patrol Leader, not from fear of punishment but they are a team, playing together supporting their Leader for the honour and success of his Patrol. The Patrol Leader must do as good as any of the scouts in his Patrol. PL must never ask the scouts in his patrol to do anything which he would not do himself. This reminds the principle ̀ Practice before preach`. We should encourage Scouts to take responsibility and leadership. A Scout Patrol carries out a wide range of tasks that require pooling resources and working together to function successfully in all kinds of circumstances.

One of the outcomes of Scout training is development of leadership. If we have a look at the training routine, starting with physical exercises till campfire activity, Scouts and Guides would be busy in the activities involving leadership. Flag Ceremony or the Patrol-in-Council or the Court of Honour are examples to get the opportunities for training in leadership. Working in Patrol Corners, troop meetings or conducting campfires demand leadership among the youth besides creating challenges to them.

free in ̀ gangs`. Skill development, Communication skills, tolerance to listen to others, obedience to the leaders are well learnt in a short time. As the programme is conceived by themselves, they show interest towards such activities.

Self-discipline, a desire to help others, friendliness, optimistic attitude are well developed through Team work. The performance of Scout Troop is well reflected due to sound Patrol System in that troop. Such a troop homogeneously achieves the desired objectives.

What makes a Patrol good? There are four aspects:

1. A real Patrol Leader 3. Plenty of real things to do2. A number of real scouts 4. Loads of real Patrol Spirit.

(a) A real Patrol Leader should have the following qualities:© Keen about the job© Know the members of the patrol thoroughly and their interests.© Know Scout craft ahead of the members.© Ability to plan the activities of the Patrol with care and forethought.© Ability to carry the members of the patrol with scout spirit and enthusiasm.

As trainers, we should motivate the unit leaders to implement the Patrol System as per A.P.R.O. with heart and soul so that the scout master need not feel the burden of running a troop. Of course, unit leaders have to sacrifice time and energy in the training of these boys. In conclusion, let us ponder at the statement of Lord Baden Powell: ‘The Patrol System is not one method in which Scouting can be carried on. It is the only method. “

COVID WARRIORS

During COVID-19, Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers and Unit Leaders rendered commendable services to the community throughout the country which were appreciated by the local administration as well as by the Govt. of India offices.

Shri S.K. Aggarwal, Former Vice President of Indian Scout Guide Fellowship & Founder Member of Greater Mumbai, ISG kindly donated Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rs. One Lakh Only) to the Bharat Scouts and Guides to felicitate Covid-19.

Top three states were chosen on the merit of maximum mobilization of members, unique services rendered and scope of reach in the community. The felicitation of Covid Warriors States was organised on 22nd February, 2021 along with Golden Arrow Award Presentation Ceremony at the Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters, New Delhi on 22nd February, 2021. Hon’ble Shri K.K. Khandelwal, Chief National Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides presented cheque of Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 30,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- for First, Second and Third prize winners. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh State Bharat Scouts and Guides received the award & cash prizes respectively.

STATE MEMBERSHIP GROWTH COORDINATORS TRAINING PROGRAMME

Challenges are the origin of ideas. World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) teaches us to never give up under any challenging circumstances with a Scouting motto “Be Prepared.’’ Bear Grylls - Chief Ambassador of World Scouting is the best example and role model of this. Despite the challenges of the global health crisis, National Scout Organizations around the world are discovering ways to grow and maintain their Scouting membership. The Bharat Scouts and Guides in India is also not so far from the queue in terms of membership growth. As India is the 5th highest youth populous county and around 1.3 billion people are under 25 years of age, so there is a huge scope for membership growth in the organization. During these unprecedented times with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bharat Scouts and Guides came up with a well-designed National Growth Strategy towards the Youth Membership Growth and its retention based on its potential.

The development and implementation of a National Growth Strategy for the Bharat Scouts and Guides began with a request through the WOSM Services platform to receive support. Using the guidance provided in World Scouting’s Growth Toolkit, along with expertise offered by a trained WOSM Services Consultant, the National Scout Organization was able to turn their National Growth Strategy from an administrative document into a collective call to action with buy-in from both leadership and Scouts.

To achieve the mission and vision of the Membership Growth in the Bharat Scouts and Guides, a well-organized and independent Membership Growth Cell is established at the National Headquarters, New Delhi. It has already startedworktowards the objectives and actions based on the National Growth Strategy. The first State Membership Growth Coordinators Training programme was conducted at the National Headquarters, New Delhi from 23rd to 25th March, 2021.

Although it was a very much challenging time to organize any face-to-face gathering during this Covid-19 Pandemic, the Bharat Scouts and Guides had well planned and arranged everything as per the requirements. In this training programme, 19 participants from 19 states namely Assam, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, DNH, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, N. F Railway, Northern Railway, Odisha, Rajasthan, S.C. Railway, S.E. Railway, Telangana, Tripura and West Bengal had participated and showed their keen interest to contribute to reach the objective.

The programme started with integration session at 9.00 am on 23rd march 2021by Shri Arup Sarkar, Deputy Director (S) & Manager, BSG Membership Growth.A Solemn Opening ceremony was held at 10.00 am. in which Additional Chief National Commissioner Shri M A Khalid, KAS (Retd.) along with other distinguished guests from BSG and Mr. J. R. Panglinon, Regional Director, APR, WOSM; Mr. Param Palani, Consultant, APR / WOSM; Mr. GoranGjorgjiev, Manager (Growth), WOSM who got connected virtually. Shri Amar B. Chettri, Joint Director (S) welcomedthe dignitaries and participants. Introduction of BSG membership growth and opening remarks were given by Shri Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director, BSG. Shri S Prassanna Shrivastava, Director, Organizational Development and MoP and WOSM Consultant facilitated the Workshop along with Shri Madhusudan A. S, Dy. International Commissioner (S) of BSG physically.

Moving to the next session, Shri Madhusudan A. S, facilitatedthe objectives of the training programme and Shri Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director discussed on Mission and Vision 2024 of BSG. Later on, Mr. GoranGjorgjiev, Growth Manager, WOSM had taken the virtual session on 7 Key Ingredients for Sustainable Growth. To make the Growth recipe more energetic, effective, and sustainable the 7 crucial ingredients are Quality Program, Leaders & Volunteers, Engaging Communication, Strong Organization, Partnership, Better Measurement & Strategy and Target &Outreach.

The last session of the Day-1 was National Membership Growth Strategy & Action Plans taken by Shri Arup Sarkar, Deputy Director (S) & Manager, BSG Membership Growth. Based on this National Membership Growth Strategy & Action Plans, all states have to submit their respective State Membership Growth Strategy and altogether it will reach the ultimate NSO target for 2023 and 2025.

On 24th March 2021, the day started with a nice reflection and then the session started with the topic State Growth Targets supplementing National Target by Mr. Manoj Kumar Nayak, Assistant Manager, BSG Membership Growth. The objectives of the session were to know the current status of states in terms of census, the target of NSO and the target of each state for 2023 and 2025 based on their potentialities. Here, a group assignment was given by Shri S Prassanna Shrivastava, to all the 19 State Growth Coordinators to study their current state status, analyze their growth potentials and based on that come with their final Annual Growth Rates with a mutual agreement which will supplement the ultimate NSO target for 2025.

To manage an organization in a long run, a realistic and effective Growth Plan is essential. Retention and Recruitment Strategies play a vital role to make the Growth Plan more effective. Therefore, Mr. GoranGjorgjiev, Growth Manager, WOSM had taken a virtual session on this and clearly explained the 6 steps of Membership Recruitment and also 7 methods to improve Membership Retention.

Followed by previous session Mr. Param Palani, Consultant, APR/WOSM had taken the next session on Retention and Recruitment Plan virtually and discussed the key points how it should be more constructive, organized and well managed based on the situation and important factors as far as human resource is concerned.

Day-2 of the Training Program ended up with the session on Membership Growth Campaign and Growth Possible Strategies taking the Covid-19 pandemic impact into consideration by Shri Madhusudan A S, Dy. International Commissioner (S), BSG. He had given the idea on both digital and physical campaigns, how to attract more youth towards scouting with qualitative activities and ways to increase membership based on areas of potential growth.

A proper digitalization plan can help reinvent processes, improve quality and promote consistency. Then we can say that if an organization adopts today's digital technologies, it will enable decision-makers to have access to all the information they needed all the time, from anywhere and from any device they choose. Looking into this concept and its importance, the Day-3 of the training programme i.e. 25th March 2021 was started with a session on OYMS (Online Youth Management System) and CMS (Content Management System) by Mr. Jit Gosh, CO, IT Department, BSG. This is the online platform of BSG India updated and registered members as of now and it will help to keep on track the Membership Growth facts and figures.

Defined Roles and Responsibilities provide clarity, alignment and expectations to those executing the work and keeping the organization running.Project managers play the lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing projects.Assigning responsibilities for project team members boosts efficiency.As the Project Head Shri Arup Sarkarhad taken the next session on Roles and

Responsibilities of the State Growth Coordinators and the expectations from them. In this session, he explainedwell, the responsibilities and accountabil-ity of State Growth Coordinators, motivated them and also assured them of thesupport services for them and work together as a team to make this project a grand success.The training programme came to an end with a memorable closing ceremony in the presence of dignitaries from the National and International

levels like Dr. K. P. Mishra, Vice-President; Shri J. C. Mohanty, International Commissioner (Scouts); Shri S. K. Biswas, Dr. (Mrs.) Pankaj Mittal, National Commissioner (Ranger), Mr. Goran Gjorgjiev, Manager (Growth), WOSM; Ms. Caryl Mae Trinidad Tacalan, Project In-Charge, OD Membership Growth, APR/WOSM connected virtually. Shri S. Prassanna Shrivastava, Shri Madhusudan A S and Shri Raj Kumar Kaushik, along with all the professionals of NHQ and RHQ physically.

Ms. Darshana Pawaskar, Joint Director (G) welcomed the guests and participants.Camp report along with video presentation was given by Shri Arup Sarkar. Shri Krishnaswamy R. Executive Director conducted the induction and Oath Taking Ceremony for 19 State Growth Coordinators. Shri Rajkumar Kaushik – Directorpresented the Letters of Appointment and Participation Certificates to State Growth Coordinators. All the dignitaries blessed the participants and closing remarks were given by Shri S Prassanna Shrivastava.. The master of the ceremony of the closing programme was Shri Amar B. Chettri.

Day one and Day two of the workshop had planned to input the knowledge about Membership Growth Strategy, group discussion and brainstorm-ing etc. Day three was kept mainly for participants to understand their roles and responsibilities and finalization of their State Membership Growth Plan. All the participants were able to complete their assignments to create a realistic membership growth plan for their respective states.

Every day's activities were started with BSG Prayer, Reflection and Report of the last day activities from participants. All the national and regional officers assisted in the workshop along with the Membership Growth Cell of BSG under the dynamic leadership of Shri Rajkumar Kaushik, Director and National Coordinator, BSG Membership Growth.

Razia Begum and Smt. Shakuntala LT (G) respectively.

Kameswari, ALT (G). 38 Guides attended Rajyapuraskar Testing Camp under the leadership of Razia Begum, ALT(G). Railway High School, Marripalem, Visakhapatnam Districtfrom 22nd to 26th March, 2021. More than85 Guides attended for Tritiya Sopan Testing Camp under the leadership of Smt. P. Suseela, Pre-ALT (G) and 58 Guides attended Rajyapuraskar Testing Camp under the leadership of Smt. Ch.L. Kameswari, ALT(G).

Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides at Gholeshapur, Behalafrom 24th to 26th March, 2021 in which 50 participants from Central Howrah, Kanchrapara and Sealdah divisions participated. The programme started with assemble followed by registration (both online and offline). HaryanaReport of work undertaken by Haryana State Bharat Scouts and Guides during Covid-19 was presented to Hon’ble Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Haryana on 02nd April 2021. Hon’ble Minister appreciated the selfless service done by the Scouts and Guides to the community.

With a view to achieve the membership growth target as per the growth plan of the state, 14 Beginners Courses were organized from 19-20 and 26-27 March 2021 at blocks level in various districts of Jind, Sirsa, Palwal, Karnal. Gurugram and Kaithal. This will go a long way to promote Scouting and Guiding at grassroots level. 1145 participants not only actively participated but also have shown their interest to start Scout Guide units in their areas.

The courses were conducted by the DOCs /DTCs and assisted by a team of competent trainers under the guidance of Shri L.S. Verma, STC (S). District Education officers cum DCCs were invited to inaugurate the courses. While delivering the opening remarks they emphasized that Scouting and Guiding is one of the major Educational Method highlighting learning by doing method, peer group and sense of responsibility etc. The training was imparted as per the guidelines contained in the Beginners Course booklet supplied by the National Headquarters so as to enable them to run the activities of the scouting and guiding for the benefit of the young people.

Southern RailwayThe JRD Tata Scout Group & Priyadarshini Guide Group conducted campaign for increasing strength in two phases on 10.03.2021 at LW/PER &on 17.03.2021 at CW/PER by distributing a card having content of Promoting Scouting and Guiding and QR code for enrolment of new members of the Group.

The Youth Committee of Perambur District conducted 3rd meeting for the year 2020-2021 on 28.03.2021 and submitted a report on their tentative plan for the year 2021-2022. Shri P. Lokeshwaran, Chairman/Youth committee chaired the meeting and Shri.E.Raghunathan, DTC/S of Perambur District was the observer of the meeting.

Guides at Pithoragarh on 12th March, 2021 in which 41 Scouts and Guides took active part. After arrival of the participants, Registration was done both online and offline which was followed by Integration and Introductory Session. Various sessions on Free Being Me like – Image Myth, Beauty around the world, Take the Pledge, Where does Image Myth Come from, Airbrushing and spot the difference were delivered. Sessions on Action on Body Confidence – Introduction to ABC, Take it home Challenge, Build me up, Stand Strong, Advocacy and Root of the problem were delivered. Shri Ram Lal Sagar was the Leader of the Workshop.

FEED THE NEED (ZERO HUNGER)

(SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL NO -02)Odisha state Bharat Scouts & Guides have organized“Feed the Need” for every needy People at each corner of the districts,which is one of the best food distribution platforms of SDG goals.

Our O.P.M Girls’ High school, Brajarajnagar, JharsugudaDistrict have undertaken the SDG 02. Under this goal, Guides and unit leaders have created aware-ness, prepared cooked food for needy people and also distributed dry food, cooked food in different areas.

More than 2248 uniformed and non-uniformed members have joined hand to hand together and created aware-ness at different areas of each corner of the Districts.

HOYSALA BRAVERY AWARD TO LATE MASTER LENIN BOPANNA, SCOUT,KODAGU DISTRICT

Late Master. Lenin Bopanna was awarded “HOYSALA BRAVERY AWARD” posthumously. His parents, Sri B P Harish and Smt. Kavitha received the Award at Bengaluru from the hands of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri B.S.Yadiyurappa. We may recall here that last year when the Scouts and Guides of Lion’s High school, Kaltamada, Gonikoppa, Kodagu District went for a Hike, some students lost their balance and fell into River Kaveri. Late Lenin Bopanna, risked his life and saved many students from drowning. Unfortunately in this process he lost his own life. Women and Child Welfare Department, Govt. of Karnataka recognized his BRAVE act and Awarded Hoysala Bravery Award Posthumously. BS&G, Karnataka places on record its gratitude to Smt. Shashikala Jolle, Hon’ble Minister for recognizing his Brave Act and also Women and Child welfare Department for conferring “HOYSALA BRAVERY AWARD” to Late Master Lenin Bopanna posthumously.

YAUVANA WE ARE THE NEXT GEN LEADERS

ISSUE NO.33JANUARY-MARCH 2021

To commemorate the 158th birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Scouts organised “Yauvana - we are the next gen leaders” on 5-12 January 2021. This national youth week event is about well ness and fun, to stir the energy of Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers and give them the opportunity to express themselves.

The event consisted of seven activities each Day.

Day 1: Yauva Canvas – A total of 1,303 participated in the activity which consisted of six categories: sand art, paper art, glass painting,Yauvana we are the next gen leaders face painting, hand painting, under the theme of

“MY SUSTAINABLE WORLD”.

Day 2: Yauva Fitbit –to keep the Yauvas physical fit and mentally strong. A total of 1,631 submitted their video presentations which includes yoga, aerobics, zumba, taekwondo, silambam, karate and kickboxing.

Day 3: Yauva Art of Green – a total of 2,225 participants joined the activity on vegetable carving and salad dressing.

Day 4: Yauva Kalakaars – a total of 2,409 sent their entries and joined the groove paying tribute to Indian culture. Scouts joined the four categories: singing, dancing, instrumental and hindi/english recitation under the theme Re-living Indian Culture.

Day 5: Yauva in Action – the activity encouraged the young people to work on the SDGs and make the world a better place. A total of 1,025 entries were received.

Day 6: Yauva Ted Talk – Scouts shared their success stories through a 10-15 minute-talk. A total of 630 entries were received where they shared their experiences under the theme My success stories/ My story of Change.

Day 7: Yauva Expression - Yauva expressions is all about giving message to society where a person always wanted to speak-out but restricted in one way or the other. This activitywas absolutely helpful for Scouts as they had a platform to voice out their thoughts and emotions under the theme “ This is me’’. A total of 713 participated in the activity. Mr. Amar Chettri, Deputy Director of Boy Programme and NSO Coordinator of Messengers of Peace, explains the significance of this activity. He said, “The youth of today is totally unlike anything we have seen before. Not only are they aware of their responsibilities, but they are also extremely gifted and talented. Whatever field one chooses to look at, the youth has created history and the people of the nation are proud to call the youth their children. The youths of today is good at so many things that lately it has become difficult to keep a track of what all they are capable of doing. So to celebrate and recognize all the incredible young people, The Bharat Scouts and Guides has brought an exciting as well as interesting package of activities for the youths to complete and make this National Youth Day, 2021 a remarkable one - Yauvana.”
