The system evolved from an original system called Minerva (Newland, Creed & Crego, 1997) which was principally designed to support team-based decision making in the management of football crowds and other public order incidents. The training suite is one of the most sophisticated university installations in the country and one of the very few in UK universities to mirror the specification and complexity of the most advanced systems used by police forces and other emergency services across the UK and abroad.
