TROPICAL CAMPUSES

Singapore offers the best of both worlds, combining a cosmopolitan and sophisticated city with Asian traditions and heritage.

Cairns is close to many spectacular natural attractions, including the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the tropical rainforest wilderness of the Daintree National Park, and the waterfalls and mountains of the hinterland.

Townsville is a thriving coastal city and port. It is departure point for visiting the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, nearby Magnetic Island and the savannahs and country towns of the outback. Townsville’s attractions include a coral reef aquarium, art galleries, museums, restaurants, and the Strand beachfront promenade.

During your time at JCU, you will no doubt hear about their research. We pride ourselves on informing our teaching by the research we do and on providing students with access to the most recent findings in their field. You will also be taught how to become an intelligent consumer of the research literature in your discipline. Information and facts you learn during your courses will become outdated rapidly and we aim to equip you with the skills to evaluate new claims and to keep up to date with your field. You will even be offered opportunities to become involved in research as a participant. This is a good opportunity to learn about how research is done. The English Language Preparatory Program not only prepares students with the linguistic skills for success in James Cook University higher education courses, the program also equips students with 21st Century soft skills for the workforce and life-long learning. These skills include critical thinking, collaboration, information literacy, technological literacy, leadership and social skills. The program also provides students with the chance to acquire cultural competence through interactive learning with students from many different cultural backgrounds.

The English Language Preparatory Program is a high quality course, and is the only English language program in Singapore endorsed by NEAS, the Australian National English Accreditation Scheme.

Pre-University Foundation ProgramThe foundation program provides an opportunity for students who do not meet our rigorous entry requirements to a Bachelor’s degree to upgrade their knowledge and skills thus enabling them to have a seamless transition.

Pre-University FoundationProgram ExtendedAn alternative pathway into tertiary education programs for those students including international students who are disadvantaged by their geographical location, family situation, educational history or other circumstances whereby they are unable to participate in other entry mechanisms.

It’s a pathway program that gives students the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate program. There is no exit certificate.

The curriculum of Information Technology is interlaced with industry engagement activities. One example is a two-day design thinking workshop where partners from the industry collaborate with JCU to pose design problems to the students, and continuously interact with the students to help them understand the process. The multidisciplinary project that is a part of the curriculum requires students to work with the industry for real projects.

There are various other special events organized like Game Jam and Hackathons wherein students from other universities and institutions also participate and compete. The students meet their peers and relevant personalities from the industry for valuable feedback and networking.

A distinguishing strength of the Master in Guidance and Counselling is that it is both a higher degree academic program as well as a professional Counsellor training program. This means that on successful completion, post-graduate students acquire the Master’s Degree plus recognition from the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), having fulfilled the training requirements needed in order to enter the Counselling profession. The fact that the Course has such an endorsement across both Singapore and Australia is certainly an advantageous feature of the Course itself.

The Graduate Diploma of Psychology provides fourth year training in Psychology for students who have completed an accredited 3 year undergraduate psychology program. Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology)

Students are required to complete 22 subjects designed to equip graduates with advanced academic and practical training for clinical professional practice. This 4-year program by coursework includes 1,500 practica hours with supervised clinical practice in our on-campus Psychology Clinic and external clinical settings. Students also conduct and independent thesis, which is equal of a PhD.

A research degree designed for graduates who wish to pioneer new knowledge and present the culmination of their research via a thesis, and it can provide a pathway into a PhD.
