About Us The Yorkshire College of Beauty has been a leading internationally recognised Beauty College since it was founded in 1983.

We will provide you with the foundations and skills for a successful career in the health and beauty industry. Our college will see that you have the opportunity to succeed in jobs worldwide due to our international recognition.The highest standard of education will be given to you throughout every module including theory and practical work. A hands-on experience,

using state of the art equipment supervised by experts in the industry is something that a minority of beauty colleges provide for their students. We pride ourselves on being able to do this.To ensure that every learner is given the best chance of success we invest in the highest quality of equipment to carry out our practical lessons whilst providing you with first class theory tuition in our IT suites. Our classes are kept small so that it is possible for you to receive the all-important personal tuition that is needed for you to achieve your goals.

What does our advanced apprenticeship offer?

Our aim is to ensure that our learners

leave college after two years with a

full Advanced Apprenticeship and feel

confident about going into the world

of work. Every one of our learners is

treated as an individual allowing us to

structure the course to benefit them

in the foremost way.

Salon experience is crucial to become

successful when you leave college.

One or two days of the week are

spent in college and the remaining

days will be spent working in a salon

which is suited to you. You will gain

as much experience as possible

whilst perfecting your treatments on

real life clients, out of a classroom

environment.

When you complete the course you

will graduate with an Advanced

Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy

which consists of NVQ levels 2 & 3

along with functional skills Level 2 in

Maths and English.

Self-employmentMany of our graduates progress onto opening their own salons and employ learners from the Yorkshire College of Beauty as they are confi dent in the training that the college provides.

Health resorts and spasThe ever growing spa industry is a great sector to become a part of. The opportunity to work abroad in a Health resort/spa will be opened up to you.

Make-up artistBeing a specialist in the make-up fi eld means that you can progress into different areas including; special effects for fi lm and theatre or work

as a makeup artist in the fi lm and photography industry.

Beauty SalonWorking as a beauty therapist in a salon environment. This will develop your skills and will help you build up your own returning clientele which will help you succeed if you were to open your own salon or become a mobile therapist.

TeachingYou will receive all of the standards and skills necessary to become a teacher in the beauty industry. Many of our tutors were students themselves at the Yorkshire College of Beauty.

Cruise LinersWorking as a therapist on a cruise liner is an amazing way to see the world. Our strong connections with Steiner UK give you an advantage

over other applicants. Steiner UK recruitment have employed many of our graduates over the years.

What are the requirements to be accepted onto the Advanced Apprenticeship course?To ensure that only the most committed learners attend the Yorkshire College of Beauty we do have entry requirements as follows;

• Open to applicants between the age of 16-18 although a small number of adult places are available.

• Learners must have a good general education. It is desirable to have 5 GCSE’s with a C or above in Maths and English however functional skills are available at the college if you don’t achieve these grades.

• Learners must display a sympathetic, friendly and understanding nature.

How are the two years broken down and what will I be doing in Level’s 2 and 3?Level 2 Learners will complete City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Beauty.You will study;• Manicures and pedicures-including luxury treatments.• Eye treatments-eyebrow shaping and tinting, eyelash tinting and eyelash extensions.• Waxing-with the use of warm and hot wax.• Facials, cleansing, toning, exfoliation, massage and mask therapy.• Make-up, a range of special occasion, evening and everyday looks.

Theory and practical work is delivered ensuring all learners have a full understanding of each subject area. Health and safety, reception duties and promotional units are included in each unit of training.

Level 3 Learners will complete City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy. You will study;• Electrolysis- the removal of unwanted hair.• Body massage.• Facial electrotherapy- galvanic, high frequency, lymphatic drainage, electro muscular stimulation, micro current and microdermabrasion.

• Body electrotherapy- massage, galvanic, G5, high frequency, lymphatic drainage, electro muscular stimulation, micro-current and microdermabrasion.• Hot stone therapy.• Theory and practical work is delivered ensuring all learners have a full understanding of each subject area. Health and safety is included in each unit of training.

In order to complete the Advanced Apprenticeship, functional skills are integral to the success of the course.Level 2 functional skills is the equivalent to GCSE grade A-C pass.

Meet the staff Our tutors are amongst some of the most qualified and respected in the industry. They are highly qualified both nationally and internationally with both salon and industrial experience.

Rebecca O’Farrell - Training Director

‘My role within the college is to oversee all teaching and training, ensuring that as a team, the highest standard of education is delivered within the beauty therapy industry. My aim is to ensure all learners have the opportunity to achieve to the highest level possible removing all barriers to learning. ‘

Linda Gardiner - Training Manager

‘After graduating from the Yorkshire College of Beauty in 1987 I opened my own salon named ‘Peaches and Cream’ in Morley. In 1992 I commenced employment as a tutor at the Yorkshire College. I now hold the position of Training Manager and it is my role to ensure all learners have the opportunity to gain salon experience and ultimately employment on completion of the course.’

Emma Dobson - Senior Tutor‘As a past graduate of the Yorkshire College of Beauty with 10 years salon experience, my aim is to provide the industry with the most outstanding therapists. I am committed in my role as senior tutor to ensure the highest possible standards of both theory and practical delivery are upheld by all members of the teaching team.’

Nicola Wright - Level 3 Tutor‘After graduating as ‘Student of the year’ in 2006 I continued to build up my clientele and experience as a therapist within my salon. I then went on to complete my teaching degree and was offered a full time teaching position at the Yorkshire College of Beauty. I have been teaching 2 & 3 for the last 6 years. It is so rewarding to see our students graduate at the end of their training knowing that I have taught them to the highest standards.’

Graduation The annual graduation dinner dance is the highlight of the Academic year. All graduates attend accompanied by friends and family. Representatives from the industry, the SFA and special guests are invited to sponsor learner awards and present prizes.All graduates receive their diplomas and our highest achieving learners are presented with specialist awards to recognise outstanding performance and their commitment throughout their training.
