The UK education systemIn the UK, students normally take A levels before starting their Bachelor’s (or undergraduate) degree, which usually lasts 3 or 4 years. Our Foundation Certificate and International Year One courses are also a recognised qualification for entry to a Bachelor’s degree, and are specially designed for international students.

Some university graduates then study a Master’s (or postgraduate) degree, which usually lasts 1 year. Our Pre-Master’s courses bridge the gap between your existing credit and the level needed for entry to a postgraduate degree.

English for direct entry studentsIf you already qualify for direct entry to BU, you can take a Pre-Sessional English course to enhance your English language and study skills. The course will help you meet the language conditions of your degree offer, and provides fantastic all-round preparation for life at BU. Find out more on page 50.

“I’ve always wanted to study in the UK, and when I came to visit the campus at Bournemouth, I just thought ‘this is where I want to be!’ I loved the campus, the atmosphere of the town, and knew that a degree preparation course would be perfect for me.

Life at the College is never dull; you meet and learn from people from so many different cultures. This also opens you up to completely new experiences. One week you’ll be heading to a boat party or taking a Zumba class; the next you’ll be joining in Eid celebrations.

The people you meet in Bournemouth are really friendly and sociable. I didn’t know anyone when I first arrived, but on my very first day I was invited to a party with new friends. It’s just that kind of place!

The teachers at the College are absolutely fantastic. They are friendly, approachable and passionate about their subjects, but also tough when they need to be. The tutorials are incredibly useful because that kind of individual attention allows you to really develop. I feel completely on track to achieve my goal of graduating from Bournemouth University with a degree in Economics and Finance.

To anyone thinking of studying at Bournemouth University International College I would say this: it’s an experience that will set you up for life, and one you’ll never forget!”
