ABOUT HACK+
Hack+ aims to empower students to build, learn, and
innovate while loving every step of the journey.
THE HACK+ ORGANIZATION Hack+ was founded in January 2016, by a group of students in the Bay Area who wanted
to spread the unique feeling of ‘hacking’ to high schoolers everywhere through real-
world experience with business and computer science. We provide a unique platform
that encourages and supports product development by students, empowering them to
launch the next generation of technological startups and projects.
KEY GOALS We’ve got a few main goals that we, as an organization, aim to achieve. Hack+ plans to
have an impact on students by:
- Instilling a lifelong passion for hacking in students all across the world - Educating youth on product development and business growth in a well-rounded
manner - Demonstrating to students how their applications and businesses can have real world
impacts, enabling them to continue to change the world - Equalizing representation in the areas of technology and computer science - Encouraging students to create technological solutions to real world problems
OUR PROGRAMS Here at Hack+, we run four main programs for our members.
Start+ is a platform that allows students to start businesses and non-profits to address
problems they care about, providing them with the resources that they need to succeed.
Grow+ is a program that works with students to take ideas and turn them into a reality,
by having students work with mentors to develop products and market them worldwide.
Community+ encourages students to give back to the community at large, by having
students brainstorm and create technological solutions to issues prevalent in society.
Hack+Schools is based on the development of chapters at schools all across the nations, and forms the structure for Hack+.

WHAT IS “HACKING”? Contrary to common belief, hacking isn’t necessarily malicious. The term “hacking”
simply refers to the creation of cool things, from designing apps to building products.
With Hack+, we want to encourage students to go take this concept of hacking to the
next level and start their own ventures.
WHY? At Hack+, we believe that students can change the world. Often, they’re underestimated, but given the resources that they need, they can take the initiative to make a difference.
All of our programs revolve around this idea. Start+ allows any student to start their own
venture or nonprofit, by automatically providing them access to digital infrastructure, as
well as our umbrella for legal, insurance, and accounting support. Grow+ helps students
take their project ideas from a dream to a reality. Throughout the course of a school year, we work actively with students to establish a full, scalable company, utilizing the
assistance of our world class technological and business mentors. Community+
encourages the use of knowledge and technological skills to help pave the way for a
brighter future.
Students are often led to believe that all they can do is study. That’s what we’ve set out to change. Our programs help show the world that high-school students can code, build,
create, make an impact, and accomplish anything.
KEY PROGRAMS START+ Our Start+ program provides an incredible platform for
students to create their own startup ventures or nonprofit
organizations. Students can simply go to our website and fill out a brief application about the type of venture or
nonprofit they want to start. Hack+ provides all the infrastructure that students need to
launch an extremely successful organization, including software and hosting services, as
well as legal support, insurance, and accounting services as needed. Students need not
worry about legal issues relating to starting up their own company or nonprofit, as they initially begin operations as a sub-organization of Hack+. This way, they can focus on
growing their business and providing quality services or products, helping them launch
a solid, successful business. Through partnerships with legal providers, students can
eventually branch off and incorporate their own independent organization. By allowing
any student to start a venture or nonprofit that they are passionate about, Start+ helps students turn their dreams into reality.

GROW+ The Grow+ program is a startup accelerator that
works closely with students to turn their ideas into
scalable businesses. We've formed a wide network of
thousands of mentors, notably including CEOs at
technology startups, employees at large companies such as Facebook and Google, and professors at esteemed universities such as Stanford
University and the University of California at Berkeley. Students work closely with our
mentors, who provide critical advice and assistance in growing their businesses through
software development, engineering, design, and more. Over the course of the program,
students will turn their innovative ideas into functioning products, and launch real businesses around it. By the end of the program, they’ll be ready to release their
product. The program culminates in a Demo Day, where students will present their hard
work and creations to investors, press, and significant players in the technology industry,
planting the seeds for future growth of the organizations.
COMMUNITY+ Our third program is Community+, which is dedicated to impacting the greater community. One of the main
focuses of our organization is to help students
develop products that can make a difference in the
lives of people all around the world. Throughout all
Hack+ programs, students are encouraged to mold their ideas behind the general field of socially
relevant computing. This means building products
that work towards solving real-world problems. In
Community+, students brainstorm possible solutions to a bimonthly “focus topic” such as
mental health, poverty, or improving the environment. They then work with mentors and each other to develop these solutions through the use of technology. Your school will be
included in this program, giving students at your school the opportunity to have a
positive impact in the community.
HACK+SCHOOLS Our unique structure is based on the development of chapters at schools all across the
nation, which together form the Hack+Schools program. These chapters are managed by local leaders, and serve as channels for participation in our other programs. Not only do
chapters see excellent gains from interacting with fellow chapters, but our presence at
high schools also helps Hack+ as a whole impact members and communities on a more
personal basis. Each chapter has the ability to contribute to the overall expansion

process, which helps us reach an incredible amount of youth and impact an exponentially
increasing amount of people through our programs.
WHY SHOULD YOU START A HACK+SCHOOLS CHAPTER AT YOUR SCHOOL? Great question. Let’s talk a little bit about what makes Hack+ programs unique from
anything else your high school currently has.
BY STUDENTS. FOR STUDENTS. Growing up in the Silicon Valley, students are exposed to technology and computer science at a very early age. The sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with
developing an innovative product is an incredibly unique and valuable experience that
one cannot find anywhere else. Hack+ was formed by students who wanted to spread
these experiences and inspire a passion for hacking in students all across the nation. Our
personal connection with the high school community allows for the formation of a stronger program than any other. By immersing youth in an environment where they can
experience the special feeling of creating, we help students think, build, and succeed.
CODE. DESIGN. LOVE. Many programs at high schools today simply expose students to certain features among
the entire technology community, such as teaching them solely programming or solely
design. Hack+ combines all of the various aspects that go into developing a product, including designing, coding, and marketing. This well-rounded approach educates
students about the entire product development process, rather than focusing on just one
part of it. Students are then able to make use of these skills and take their ideas from
their mind to the real world.
RESOURCES FOR REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE.
As a Hack+Schools chapter, you’ll have the ability to tap into the vast
ocean of Hack+ resources, including:
- PARTNER RESOURCES To assist
your chapter in reaching its maximum
potential on campus, your chapter will have special access to resources from
our corporate partners1, including
companies like Microsoft, Google,
Apple, Facebook, and more. Some of our corporate resource partners

- ACCESS TO EXCLUSIVE HACK+SCHOOLS PROGRAMS Only Hack+Schools members
are eligible for the Grow+ and Community+ programs. These two programs allow for
students at your high school to gain invaluable hands-on experience with business
development and computer science that is usually unavailable at most high schools.
- PRIORITY ACCESS TO START+ Hack+Schools members are eligible for Start+ approval within 24 hours. Non-members may have to wait for two weeks or more prior
to receiving approval. This means nearly quick access for your chapter’s members to
the over $10,000 of resources that each Start+ member organization receives.
- FINANCIAL & FUNDRAISING SUPPORT If ever running low on money and in need of
funds, chapters can apply for funding from Hack+. More often than not, we will be happy to supply you with the financial support you need to thrive as a chapter.
Chapters often also run fundraisers to raise money. As a part of our 20ForAll program,
20% of funds raised by chapters go to the national Hack+ organization and help keep
the organization running. As a thank-you, the national Hack+ organization will often
offer heavy rewards and incentives for chapters who are performing well.
- IMPACT & COMPETE All of our chapters participate in Community+, which includes a
competition every two months to see which chapters can create the most impactful
project in a given area. The winning chapter will receive awesome prizes for its
members, as a thank-you for helping the community. All completed projects will also
be polished and launched by Hack+, meaning everyone’s contributions will have a true impact in the real world.
- THE BIGGEST NETWORK OF MENTORS EVER Hack+Schools chapters have access to
free 1-on-1 sessions with our network of over 35,000 mentors2 via video chat and
instant messaging, with experience in nearly every imaginable subject, like business,
software development, mathematics, biotechnology, chemistry, music, and so many more. Whatever your students need help with, our mentors have it covered.
