3. APPLICANTS TO NOTE
1. Before filling in the application, read the Prospectus carefully. Preserve the Prospectus till thecompletion of the course.
2. The Applicant has to detach and fill in the following :(1) Application Form, (2) Computer Coding Sheet, (3) Address Slip.
3. The Application must be accompanied by All the Original Certificates as stated in theProspectus and the Registration Fee.Registration Fee for M.B.A. - Executive Course : Rs.1,000/-
M.B.A., Integrated M.B.A. (5 years) M.C.A., M.Sc.(I.T.) Courses : Rs.400/-4. The Applicant has to state clearly the Course which he/she wants to study.5. Photographs to be affixed :
1. One on the Application Form[Attested by a Gazetted Officer/Faculty/Officials of the University with Seal].
2. One on the Address Slip.3. One on the reverse side of the Coding Sheet.

Spot Admission Centres / Study Centres / Participatory Programme Centreslisted in the prospectus / University Website. Students are advised not to haveany dealing with any other unauthorised Institutions/ Agencies pertaining toadmission to any of the courses offered by this Institute. They are cautioned thatadmission secured from unauthorised centres will be automatically cancelled.
PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION
(1) All the courses of the Institute are offered to the residents of India and also to foreign countries as per thediscretion of the authorities, University of Madras. Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right and theInstitute reserves to itself the right of admission.
(2) Spot Admission will be made for those who come to the Single Window Admission Centre at IDE Campus/ Spot Admission Centres / Study Centres in person along with the required original documents / certificates,in addition to a fee paid challan endorsed by the Designated Banks, State Bank of India / Indian Bank ora demand draft in favour of “The Director, IDE, University of Madras”, payable at Chennai forRs.100/- towards Registration Fee.
(3) All the columns in the application form should be filled in carefully. Incomplete application forms will berejected.
(4) The xerox copy of the statement of marks of the qualifying examination accompanying the application formmust be attested by a Gazetted Officer and also by the Co-ordinator of the Spot AdmissionCentre / Study Centre in the case of Spot Admission.

SINGLE WINDOW ADMISSION CENTRE AT IDE CAMPUS, Chennai
With a view to simplify the admission procedure for the distance education students, the University of Madrashas opened a Single Window Admission Centre at the IDE building at Chepauk Campus, Chennai. Located in aspacious hall, the Single Window Admission Centre ensures admission in thirty minutes. Students seeking admissionat IDE Campus of the University at Chennai can make use of this Centre. Students using the Single WindowAdmission Centre should follow the following instructions:
1. Collect the Application-cum-Prospectus from the Prospectus Sales Counter on payment in cash.
2. Pay the registration fee at the “Registration Fee Payment Counter”.
3. Enter the Single Window Admission Counter with filled-in application form and collect the token and wait foryour turn.
4. Candidates seeking admission to degree courses should submit the mark statements of 10th Standard and12th Standard (+2) and also the Transfer Certificate.
5. Candidates seeking admission to post-graduate degree courses should submit the provisional certificate ordegree certificate of the qualifying degree and also the transfer certificate from the last studied institution.
6. The application form and other certificates should be arranged in the following order:
(i) Registration fee payment receipt
(ii) Filled-in application form + Filled-in address slip
(iii) Xerox copies of the Certificates
(iv) Filled-in Computer Coding Sheet
7. The xerox copies of the certificates will be verified with the originals and the original certificates will bereturned along with the provisional admission letter.
8. After obtaining the provisional admission letter, the students can remit the specified fees at the Bank Counterlocated at the Centre. Payment may also be done at the State Bank of India or Indian Bank branches withinthe University Campus or at any one of the branches of these two Banks. After remitting the fees, the studentscan collect the study materials and ID card from the respective counters located in the Single Window AdmissionCentre.
Working Hours: The Single Window Admission Centre functions on all days including Satrudays and Sundaysexcept holidays declared by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Centre is open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. onweek days including Saturdays and Sundays.

SPOT ADMISSION
1. Spot admission to the first year will be given to those who come to the Institute in person or at theSpot Admission Centres and Study Centres along with the required original documents/certificates.
2. Eligible candidates who seek spot admission can collect their first year learning materials at the Spot AdmissionCentres and Study Centres (including the Institute) by producing their copy of the payment Challan endorsedby the designated Bank. For particulars of total fees to be paid (excluding Registration Fee), please refer PageNos. 45 & 46 Fee Particulars - Course-Wise.
3. The second year learning materials can also be collected by the students at the Spot Admission Centres including theInstitute and Study Centres on production of the student’s copy of payment challan endorsed by the designated Bank.
ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES FROM OTHER STATES1. Candidates from other states should submit their applications at any one of the Study Centres of the
Institute of Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras, of the State concerned for admission tovarious courses offered by IDE.
2. Applications received by post from the candidates of other States will automatically be linked with theIDE Study Centre of the State concerned.
3. Applications received by post from the candidates of other States where there is no Study Centre of thisInstitute, will be linked with the nearby IDE Study Centre of the other State and candidates should undergothe courses offered by this Institute through such allotted IDE Study Centre only.

ADMISSION THROUGH PARTICIPATORY INSTITUTIONS (Campus Learning Centres)The Students who are willing to do the Courses of the Institute of Distance Education, University of

Year / Third Year Undergraduate Degree Courses through the Colleges including Autonomous Collegesaffiliated to this University (or) from the Colleges including Autonomous Colleges affiliated to other Universitiesrecognised by the UGC/AIU and accepted as equivalent thereto by the University of Madras, can seeklateral admission to the Second Year / Third Year Undergraduate degree course of study in the respectivesubject concerned. They should submit their application form for admission together with original TransferCertificate / Course Completion Certificate wherein the actual duration of course undergone by them beappropriately indicated by the Institution/University concerned. For exemption of papers relating to thesubjects already passed through their previous Institution/University, they should submit the original Statementof Marks of their previous appearances and an authenticated relevant syllabus prescribed by the Institution/University in original or the syllabus attested by the Principal/Head of the Department of the Institution in thesubject concerned where they have undergone their previous course for verification and to consider forexemption of papers after perusal by the authorities of the University of Madras.

(A) M.B.A. - EXECUTIVE
A graduate in any discipline of recognized University / deemed university with aminimum of 3 years of work experience in managerial / supervisory / executive cadre inbusiness / industry in private or public sector or in government / semi government / quasigovernment institutions.
(B) M.B.A. - MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Candidates for admission to the first year of the Master of Business AdministrationDegree Course in the Institute of Distance Education shall be required to have any one of thefollowing qualifications :
1. A pass in any branch of study of a Bachelor Degree/Master Degree of the Universityof Madras or any other University recognised by the UGC/AIU or a qualificationaccepted by this University as equivalent thereto.
2. A Professional Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine/Architecture/Law.
3. Professional qualification in Accountancy, Cost & Works Accountancy, CompanySecretaryship.
(C) INTEGRATED M.B.A. (FIVE YEARS)
(1) The Pre-University Examination conducted previously by the University of Madrasor any other University accepted as equivalent thereof by the authorities, Universityof Madras.

(2) The Higher Secondary Examination [Academic or Vocational Stream] conducted bythe Government of Tamil Nadu [or] other States [or] Union Territories [or] anExamination accepted as equivalent thereof by the authorities, University of Madras.
(3) There should be a minimum gap of two clear years between the date of appearancein the examination in which the candidate has passed the S.S.L.C. [X Standard] andHigher Secondary Examination (+2) or any other equilavent Examination as prescribedin the Prospectus for joining the First Year of Degree Course.
(4) The Senior School Certificate Examination [XII Standard] conducted by the CentralBoard of Secondary Education held in 1979 or thereafter provided that they havebeen declared to have passed the examinations in not less then 5 subjects of whichENGLISH shall be one.
(5) The Indian School Certificate Examination [12 Years] conducted by the Council forIndian School Certificate Examination held in 1977 or thereafter, provided that theyhave been declared to have attained the pass standard in the examinations in notless than 5 subjects of which ENGLISH shall be one.
(6) Those who have passed the Plus Two examinations of the National Open School,New Delhi.
(7) Pre-Technical Examination previously conducted after 11 years of study by the StateBoard of Technical Education and Training, Chennai.
(8) Intermediate Examination [2 years] of Andhra Pradesh, Pre-Degree Examination [2Years] of Kerala and Pre-University Examination [2 Years] of Karnataka under the10+2 pattern.
(9) Candidates who have successfully completed 12 or 13 years of education in any Statein India or Abroad under 11+1 or 10+2 or 11+2 pattern, subject to approval by theauthorities of this University.
(10) Candidates who have successfully completed the Second Year Foundation Courseof the Open University System of the Madurai-Kamaraj and Annamalai Universities.
(11) Candidates who have successfully passed the Three Year Diploma Examinationsconducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Chennai afterpassing 10th Standard Examination.

(12) Candidates who have passed the G.C.E. [Advanced Level / Principal Level] withnot less than 3 subjects in the ‘A’ Level with ENGLISH in the ‘O’ Level / SUBSIDIARYLevel.

(A) M.B.A. - EXECUTIVE
PROJECT REPORT
Each student shall be required to prepare, on the basis of investigations carried out by him/her in a business or industrial organization, project report on possible solutions for a typicalproblem of current interest in the area of Management. The report should demonstrate thecapability of the student for some creative potential and original approach to solve the practicalproblems in to-day’s business or industry. The report should include field studies, surveys,interpretation, planning and design of improved integrated management systems, presented in acomprehensive manner with recommendations for solutions based on scientifically worked outdata.
The Project Report must be submitted before the stipulated time, failing which the candidatewill be treated as appearing on a second occasion and shall NOT BE ELIGIBLE for FIRST CLASSand RANKING.
However, the students are given the option to take up two subjects in lieu of the project workin the second year.
PASSING REQUIREMENTS
(i) A candidate who secures not less than 50 percent marks in the Written Examination ofeach paper shall be declared to have passed the examination in that subject.
(ii) a) A candidate shall be declared to have passed Project Work, and Viva Voce if he/shesecures a minimum 50 percent marks in the Project Work and Viva Voce Evaluation.
b) A candidate failing in any subject will be permitted to appear for the examinations againon a subsequent occasion without putting in any additional attendance.
c) A candidate who fails in project work shall be permitted to redo the project work forevaluation, if so recommended by the examiners.
(iii) A Candidate who successfully completes the course and passes the examinations of all TWOyears prescribed as per Scheme of Examinations shall be declared to have qualified for theDegree provided the whole course has been completed within a maximum of 5 YEARS fromthe date of initial admission to the course.

CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES
Successful candidates securing not less than 60 percent in the aggregate of the marksprescribed for the Course shall be declared to have qualified for the Degree in First Class providedthey have passed the Project Work at the FIRST appearance and the Examination of all the othersubjects within TWO YEARS after their admission.
Successful candidates securing not less than 75 percent in the aggregate of the marksprescribed for the Course shall be declared to have qualified for the Degree with Distinctionprovided they pass all the examinations prescribed for the course in the first appearance.
All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the Second Class.
RANKING
Candidates who pass all the examinations prescribed for the course in the FIRSTAPPEARANCE ITSELF alone are eligible for Classification / Ranking / Distinction.

(C) INTEGRATED - M.B.A. (FIVE YEARS)
For the First Three Years
(a) Foundation Courses
(i) Tamil / Alternative Language Subject
Successful candidates passing the examinations for the language papers and securing marks(i) 60 percent and above and (ii) 50 percent and above but below 60 percent in the aggregate shallbe declared to have passed the examinations in the First and Second Class respectively. All othersuccessful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the Third Class.
(ii) English
Successful candidates passing the examinations for English papers and securing the marks(i) 60 percent and above and (ii) 50 percent and above but below 60 percent in the aggregate shallbe declared to have passed the examinations in the First and Second Class respectively. All othersuccessful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the Third Class.
(b) Core Courses and Application Oriented Subjects
Successful candidates passing the examinations for Core Courses (Main and Allied) andApplication Oriented Subject together and securing marks (i) 60 percent and above and (ii) 50percent and above but below 60 percent in the aggregate of the marks prescribed for core coursesand application oriented subjects together shall be declared to have passed the examinations inthe First and Second Class respectively. All other successful candidates shall be declared to havepassed the examinations in the Third Class.
Candidates who obtain 75 percent of the marks and above in any subject shall be deemed tohave passed in that subject with distinction provided they pass the examinations at the firstappearance.

The candidate’s performance in each paper is evaluated by a combination of continuousinternal assessment and University Examination. The maximum mark for the continuous internalassessment is 25 and for the University Examination 75, for each paper. The marks for the continuousinternal assessment for each theory paper shall be carried out by conducting the internal test andassignment or evaluation for continous internal assessment should be done by the faculty who ishandling the paper.

The performance of the candidates in the University examinations of the practical paperswill be evaluated by two external examiners appointed by the University. The evaluation patternfor the University practical examination is :
Record book - 10 marks
Examination - 65 marks
For mini-project, the candidate should submit a report not exceeding 25 pages in the sameformat as prescribed for the final project report at the time of examination. The demonstrationmust be carried out in the presence of the examiners and the candidate should carry out themodifications suggested by the examiners during the examination.
The final project work can be either carried out in the R & D Section of any Industry /University/Institute or in the institute where the candidate is studying. The projects which aredeveloped in study centres or training institutes will not be considered. For the final projectwork, the guide will evaluate (internal) the Project work for 25 marks based on the performanceof the candidates during the development of the project and the two external examiners willevaluate the project work on the following basis :
Project Report - 30 marks
Viva Voce - 45 Marks
PASSING MINIMUM
1. A candidate shall be declared to have passed in each paper, if he/she secures not less than40% of marks in the University examination and also not less than 50% in aggregate of thetotal maximum marks.
2. A candidate who has passed in all the papers and in the project work within the maximumperiod of five years reckoned from the date of admission to the course is declared to havequalified for the degree.

2. If the candidate fails in the project work, he/she should redo the project work and resubmitthe same in the subsequent year with the suggested modifications for evaluation, if sorecommended by the Examiners. The internal assessment marks shall be awarded afreshin this case.
RANKING
Candidates who pass all examinations prescribed for the course in the First Appearance andwithin the period of Three Academic years from the year of Admission to the course alone areeligible for Ranking.

8. GENERAL INFORMATION(A) ADMISSIONS
(1) Fee should be paid before the prescribed time. No extension of time for the payment of fee will be given
under any circumstances.
(2) All types of fees payable to the institute should be paid by Challan through the designated BANK
(Challan Enclosed). Postal Orders, Money Orders, Mail Transfers, Other Bank Challans and
Cash payments will not be accepted.
(3) Candidates are requested to write clearly their name and enrolment number on the Bank Challan. The Bank
Challan (IDE Copy) should be forwarded or presented to the Director, Institute of Distance Education,
University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai - 600 005. Students admitted through the Study Centres / Spot
Admission Centres are advised to forward the Challan to the Study Centres / Spot Admission Centres for
onward transmission to the DIRECTOR, IDE for collecting the learning materials from the Study Centre /
Spot Admission Centre. Fee once remitted will not be refunded or adjusted in any manner under any
circumstances.
(4) Prescribed text books are not supplied for all subjects to the candidates by the Institute of Distance Education.
Hence, they are advised to get them from the book-sellers. However, the syllabi and the learning materials will
be sent to the candidates.
(5) The learning materials will be supplied at the Personal Contact Programme Centres, Study Centres and
Spot Admission Centres. Those who are not able to collect the packages at the centre may request
the Director, IDE to despatch the learning materials by post.
The last dates for the receipt of the tuition fee, postage and stationery fee etc., are given below.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Students who want to discontinue their courses after the completion of first/second year should inform
the Director, IDE., before the 31st May of every year. Otherwise, full fees will be collected for the subsequent
years. Only after receiving all the fees, his/her Course Completion Certificate will be issued. In the case of
discontinuance this certificate will indicate only that part of the course completed.
Legal dispute, if any, relating to Admission/Examinations of IDE., will be subject to
Chennai Jurisdiction only.
Visually and other Physically challenged candidates are advised not to apply for M.C.A./M.Sc. Information
Technology Degree Courses and not to opt Elective Subject - Systems in M.B.A. Degree Course which involve
operation of Computers.

CERTIFICATES TO BE ENCLOSED WITH APPLICATION
1) Transfer Certificate / Course Completion Certificate from the Head of the Institution where theapplicant last studied.
2) Provisional / Degree [Diploma] Certificate of the qualifying examinations passed by him / her.
3) Statement of Marks right from schooling viz. 10th, 12th and DEGREE Examinations Passed by him/her.
4) If the certificates are in a language other than English / Tamil, an authenticated translation in English shouldbe sent along with the originals duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.
5) Candidates who have not undergone the courses (Qualifying Examinations) under 10 + 2 + 3 (or) 11 + 1 + 3(or) 11 + 2 + 2 pattern or any Open University System of recognised Universities need not apply, as they arenot eligible for admission.
6) All the Original Certificates mentioned, should be submitted or presented to “The Director, IDE,University of Madras, Chennai - 600 005” / Co-ordinator of the Spot Admission Centres / Study Centresalong with the application form for admission duly signed by the candidate with payment endorsed Bank Challantowards the Registration fee paid through any of the branches of the designated Banks. Failure to submit any ofthe above documents may entail rejection of their applications. In the case of candidates applying for M.B.A.Executive Registration Fee of Rs. 1,000/- and M.B.A. / Integrated M.B.A. / M.C.A. / M.Sc.(I.T.), theRegistration Fee of Rs. 400/- paid by means of challan endorsed by the designated Bank or a demand draftin favour of “The Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras”, payable at Chennai,should be enclosed. This amount is not refundable under any circumstances.
7) A Course Completion Certificate will be issued by the Institute on completion of the course, if the candidatehas no arrears of fee. Candidates who have completed the course are permitted to take the examinations inwhich they have not passed even after the issue of the Course Completion Certificate till the regulation underwhich the candidate has undergone the course is in force.
8) All the original certificates should be attached at the left hand top corner of the application form with a tag orstring to prevent them from getting lost.
9) Candidates are advised to make sufficient number of copies of their original certificates beforesending them to the Institute.
10) Candidates pursuing any other course of study either in this Institute or elsewhere are eligible for admissiononly to Certificate or Diploma Courses offered by this Institute. They will not be permitted to join anyother Degree Course offered by the Institute.
11) The filled in application form along with the necessary Certificates / Documents should be sent tothe Director, IDE., by Registered Post with Acknowledgement due or presented in person at theInstitute / Spot Admission Centres / Study Centres.
12) Admission to candidates who have qualified from other Universities / Bodies will be considered only on thecondition that their previous qualifications are recognised by this University. However, action will be taken torecognise the examination of a recognised University, if the syllabus of the qualifying examination is producedby the candidate. This is subject to approval by the authorities of the University of Madras.

METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES

MODE FOR PAYMENT OF FEES
Students can make their payments with the Banks designated by the Institute of Distance Education,University of Madras without any additional charge. The challan has three identical parts, Viz. Bank Copy,IDE Copy and Student Copy. The particulars required in the challan should be filled in by the Candidates withoutleaving any columns blank. The BANK will retain Bank Copy, and return the IDE Copy and Student Copy to thestudent. The IDE copy of the BANK Challan should be sent / submitted to the Director, IDE for official use. Thestudent copy should be preserved carefully by the student as a proof of payment. In places where there is no facilityfor the payment of fees through the designated Banks, students may make the payment by means of Demand Draftobtained from any of the Nationalized/Scheduled Bank drawn in favour of “The Director, IDE, University ofMadras” payable at Chennai.
Online Fees Payment System
Students can remitt their Registration Fees & Tuition Fees Online throughPayment Gateways System. Provided with Website : www.ideunom.ac.in.
The filled in application form should be sent or presented along with the IDE copy of the fee paid challanendorsed by the designated BANK for the Registration Fee. This amount is not refundable under any circumstances.
The Tuition Fee and other fees for the First Year should be paid only after receiving the intimation letter ofprovisional admission. For payment of subsequent tuition fees and other fees for second and third years, noseparate intimation will be sent to the candidates admitted. Hence, candidates are advised to retain thisProspectus till the completion of the course for guidance and make remittances within the specified due

dates on their own by using the Xerox copy of Fee Challan. The enrolment of the defaulters willautomatically stand cancelled. They may, however, be readmitted to the same course on payment ofRs. 500/- subject to approval by the authorities. Candidates are not permitted to remit the fees in instalments.
The students are strictly instructed to use separate BANK challans to pay the Tuition Fees and ExaminationFees and send or present them to the Director, IDE, in separate envelopes. The fee paid challan endorsed by thedesignated BANK may also be presented to the Co-ordinator, Spot Admission Centre / Study Centre for onwardtransmission to the Director, IDE. They are requested not to pay both examination and tuition fees together.The Institute is not responsible for any delay in sending learning materials or statement of marks, etc.,if the examination and tuition fees are paid together.
FEE CONCESSION
The Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras offers following fee concessions:
A. Fee concessions to differently-abled candidates / Prisoners
(a) Differently-abled candidates with atleast 40% physical disability and who are in possession of nationalidentity card for disability issued by the competent authorities can pursue distance education programmesoffered by the University of Madras with full exemption of tuition fees and special fees.
(b) Prisoners of Tamil Nadu will be considered for exemption of tuition fees provided they submit theirappliction for admission with a ‘No Objection Certificate’ issued by the competent authority.
B. 25% Tuition Fees concessions are extended by IDE, University of Madras for the following categoriesof Student community.
(a) Women candidates (b) Graduates of the Universityof Madras
(c) Presently serving Defence service personnel (d) Teachers
(e) Police Personnel (f) Press and Media Personnel
NOTE: Candidates can avail ANY ONE of the above three concessions
C. Concessions for pursuing additional certificate / diploma course (this concession is in addition tothe concessions listed under item ‘B’ above):
(a) Undergraduate students on roll of the IDE can do one certificate course (EXCEPT French, Germanand Sanskrit) with full waiver of tuition fee.
(b) Post-graduate students on roll of the IDE can do one certificate / diploma course with full waiver of tuition fee.
CHANGE OF COURSE (OR) MEDIUM
Candidates are advised to make a firm choice of the course of study they wish to pursue and the medium ofinstruction before sending the application for admission. Normally, change of subject or medium of instruction willnot be allowed; but in special cases change may be permitted within one month from the date of admission onpayment of the prescribed fee of Rs.500/- subject to approval by the authorities.

CONDONATION OF BREAK IN STUDIES
Candidates who have discontinued courses from Colleges or from this Institute and seek admission inthis Institute in the Second / Third Year of the course should pay a sum of Rs. 500/- or such fee as may bein force from time to time towards condoning the break in study and for permission to rejoin the course. If suchstudents seek admission in some other branch of study, they will be permitted to join the II / III year subjectto the condition that they should appear and pass all the subjects prescribed from I Year onwards on paymentof the prescribed fee. Candidates from other Universities should pay Rs.750/- towards transfer fee in additionto condonation fee, if he/she wants to join in the second / third year of the course.
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
(1) The method of instruction comprises (a) distributing learning materials periodically, (b) personal contactprogramme. The learning materials can be collected by the students or his/her representative personallyfrom the Institute/ P.C.P. Centres / Spot Admission Centres on production of the payment endorsed by thedesignated BANK Challan (IDE Copy) for the payment of tuition fees.
(2) Attendance for the students relating to the Theory Classes / Practical Classes of M.B.A. Executive /M.B.A. / Integrated M.B.A. / M.C.A. and M.Sc. (Information Technology) is compulsory. If a studentdoes not attend the compulsory contact programme, he/she is not eligible for appearing for the UniversityExaminations (Theory and Practical). If candidates appear for the University Examinations (Theory andPractical) without adequate attendance in the compulsory personal contact programme, they do so at theirown risk and it leads to cancellation of their appearance in the Examinations.
(3) Personal Contact Programme classes will be arranged for the benefit of students in selected centres inTamil Nadu and Puducherry and at the Study Centres in the other states of India. The number ofP.C.P. Centres will depend on student enrolment. This programme is meant for class room lectures onimportant topics and clearing the doubts of the students. Students are advised to attend the classes in theirown interest for effective learning. The venue and dates of these programmes will be intimated individuallyor notified from time to time in the leading dailies and in the Website (www.unom.ac.in).
(4) The detailed schedule of the Personal Contact Programme will be intimated separately.
ADDRESS SLIP
The applicants for admission are required to furnish their address in each of the six slots provided for thepurpose on a separate sheet attached to the application form. The admission intimation, original certificatesand learning materials will be sent to the address furnished in the Address Slip only. Write the address incapital letters and use ball pen only.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS
All communications and learning materials in the case of those who opt to receive by post will be sentto the candidates to the address given in the application form. Any change in the address should be intimatedto the Institute, Spot Admission Centre / Study Centre immediately with the enrolment number. Candidates areadvised to make necessary arrangements in the post office for their mail to be redirected to their new addressin the event of a despatch being sent before the change is effected.
IDENTITY CARD
The Identity Card will be issued after the First year tuition fee is paid. The Identity Card will be valid tillthe completion of the course. In the event of a student discontinuing a course, the card shall become invalidfor the year / years yet to be completed. Candidates are instructed to preserve their identity cards. Theyshould note that the examination Hall Ticket will be issued by the Chief Superintendent of the ExaminationCentre, only on production of the identity card. The arrear candidates can use the Identity Card for obtainingHall Tickets even though the duration of the course of study is over. If the original card is lost, a duplicate willbe issued on payment of Rs.100/-. The payment endorsed by the designated Bank challan (IDE. Copy) isto be sent for this purpose together with a passport size photograph.
ENROLMENT NUMBER
An Enrolment Number will be assigned to the candidate on admission. This enrolment number will holdgood for the entire duration of the course of study. In every communication addressed to the Institute, thisnumber should be quoted. Letters received without the enrolment number will not be entertained.
The Enrolment Number is a twelve digit unique code (alpha-numeric). The first two digits indicate theyear of admission. The third, fourth and the fifth the centre, the sixth, seventh and the eighth the subject and lastfour the actual enrolment number.
SCHOLARSHIP
A) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates who pursue their studies through this Institute underthe Regular Stream alone are eligible for reimbursement of the fees. They are also eligible for an annualallowance of Rs.500/- towards purchase of essential/prescribed books. This prescribed scholarshipform and other particulars in this connection can be obtained from the Director, Institute of DistanceEducation, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai - 600 005 after Payment of Tuition Fees.
B) Visually or other physically challenged candidates, can avail themselves of the State GovernmentScholarship for the disabled. The prescribed form may be obtained from the District RehabilitationOfficer in the districts concerned for reimbursement of non-refundable fees.
C) Eligible SC/ST students are directed to submit the SC/ST scholarship form during their study at IDEonly and no SC/ST scholarship application form will be accepted after the period of study at IDE on anycircumstances.

SPOT ADMISSION
1) Spot Admission for the first year will be given to those who come to the Institute / Spot AdmissionCentre / Study Centre in person with the required Certificates / Documents.
2) Eligible candidates who seek spot admission can collect their first-year learning materials at the Institute/ Spot Admission Centre / Study Centre itself, by producing the IDE copy of the fee paid designatedBank challan towards Registration Fee plus Tuition Fee and other fees prescribed for the first year. Forparticulars of total fees to be paid (excluding Registration Fee), please see the respective Tables.
3) The second-year learning materials may also be supplied to the students at the Institute, Spot Admission/ Study Centre on production of the fee paid designated Bank challan (IDE copy) towards tuition fee forthe second year.

Postgraduate Professional Degree Courses in theInstitute of Distance Education, University of Madras should enclose two copies of the relevant syllabusof the course they have undergone in the First / Second year through the Colleges includingAutonomous Colleges affiliated to recognised Indian Universities for perusal and approval by theUniversity authorities pertaining to exemption of papers in which they have already passed. Besides, theoriginal certificates pertaining to 10th and 12th [+ 1 & + 2] School Education Mark Statement / 3 Year DegreeStatement of Marks, First Year/Second Year Postgraduate Professional Degree Course Statement of MarksPassed / Failed and Transfer Certificate from the Institution where the candidates have undergone anddiscontinued their First Year/Second Year M.B.A. Executive / M.B.A. / Integrated M.B.A. / M.C.A./M.Sc.(I.T.) CANDIDATES WITH ARREARS
Students with arrears, after the completion of the duration of the course of study, have to seek andobtain on their own initiative, with a requisition letter and with self-addressed envelope, the particulars ofchange of syllabus, provision for completion of course, practical classes, practical examinations, ExaminationApplication Forms, from the Director, IDE., University of Madras. Co-ordinators of PCP Centres/SpotAdmission Centres/Study Centres may provide the above particulars. In all the communications to the Institute,these candidates should quote the Enrolment Number and Address.
PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATE AND DEGREE
Provisional Certificate will be issued to those who have qualified for the degree after the publication ofresults. For obtaining Provisional Certificate and Degree / Diploma, a Fee of Rs.300/- or such fees asmay be in force from time to time, should be paid along with the Final Year Examination Fee.
Prescribed forms for obtaining Provisional Certificate and Degree/Diploma are also available with theInstitute/P.C.P. Centres/Spot Admission Centres/Study Centres. They can also be downloaded from theWebsite (www.unom.ac.in).

9. PERSONAL CONTACT PROGRAMME
Students are instructed to note the following
1. Students are advised to make their own arrangement for Boarding and Lodging.
2. Students are advised to bring their own Note-books, Pens, Pencils, etc.
3. Students from other States may attend Classes at any one of the nearest PCP Centres.
4. The Co-ordinator / Additional Co-ordinator at the respective Centres will be available for any clarificationregarding the course.
5. Detailed Time-Table for PCP Classes will be made available at the PCP Centres on the first day of thePCP Classes.
6. Any change in the programme will be intimated to the students at the venue of the PCP Classes.
7. PCP Classes will be held from 9.00 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. & 1.30 p.m. to 5.15 p.m.
8. Students should not use Cell Phones in the class rooms.
9. Students are advised to collect their study materials from the PCP Centres / Study Centres by submitting theirtuition fee remittance challan (designated Bank).
10. Students are instructed to keep their identity card ready to be produced for any reference.

by the Institute of Distance Education University of Madras, spread all over INDIA forpayment of fees relating to remittance of Registration fee, Tuition fee, Examination feeand other fees as applicable without any additional charges. A challan in triplicate isappended to the Prospectus for the purpose of remittance of fees. Take required number ofcopies of the challan for use during your course Period. The challan is also available inall the designated BANK branches. In places where there is no designated BANK, the studentsmay make the payment by means of DEMAND DRAFT obtained from any Nationalised /Schedule Bank drawn in favour of “THE DIRECTOR, IDE, UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS”payable at Chennai.

14. ADMISSION TO CERTIFICATE & DIPLOMA COURSES
INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES
Along with the course selected, if an applicant wishes to join any one of the Certificate orDiploma courses simultaneously, he/she should obtain separate Prospectus prescribed for theCertificate/Diploma Courses on payment of Rs. 100/- in person or Rs. 150/- by post towards thecost of Application and Prospectus and to submit the application together with bonafide certificateof the Institution where he/she is studying the Postgraduate Degree Course.

b) Candidates who have passed any Degree Course (Regular Stream / under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern)and Certificate Course in Sanskrit, French & German of the University of Madras or any otherUniversity recognised by UGC/AIU accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligiblefor admission to the Diploma Courses in Sanskrit, French & German. Graduates who havedone French, German as a second language in the First Year and Second Year of the DegreeCourse/Certificate from Alliance Franchaise/Max Muller Bhavan are also eligible for admissionto the respective Diploma Courses.
c) Candidates who have passed +2 Examinations conducted by the Government ofTamil Nadu (or) Senior School Certificate Examinations conducted by the CBSE (or)Government Board Examinations of the Other States (or) Union Territories (or) an Examinationas equivalent thereof by the authorities, University of Madras are eligible for admission to the“Diploma Course in Rain Water Harvesting” only.
d) A student can additionally enrol for one Diploma Course only at a time.

EXAMINATIONS
1. Candidates are instructed to read the following instructions relating to examinations carefully andtake note of the special instructions relating to examinations.
2. Separate intimation regarding examinations and examination applications will not be sent to thestudents admitted from Academic Year 2011 - 2012 and Calendar Year Admissions 2012. They have toapply for examinations as and when they are eligible within the prescribed last date. Students shouldtake photo copy of the specimen examination application appended to this Prospectus and submit it tothe University before the prescribed last date furnished under serial number 4 below. The examinationapplication can also be downloaded from the IDE website www.ideunom.ac.in
3. The annual main examinations for Students admitted under “Calendar Year Stream” are conducted at the end ofthe Calendar Year, i.e., November every year. Subsequently, the supplementary examinations for this batch ofstudents will be conducted during May every year.
4. The last date for submission of filled-in examination application for the Main Examinations (November) is 31st
October and for the supplementary examinations (May) is 31st March.
5. While submitting the filled-in application for examination they should enclose the xerox copy of thefees remittance challan towards the tution fees paid till the date of submission of examinationapplication. Otherwise, their applications will not be registered for the examinations.
(Student who has not paid the Tuition fees will not be permittedto write the examinations under any circumstances)
6. The examinations are conducted at various centres furnished in the examination application appended to thisprospectus. However, the University has the right to restrict the number of examination centres depending uponthe students’ strength. In such cases, students choosing a particular centre may be asked to take the examinationsin the nearby Examination Centre.
7. Normally two examinations are conducted per day. The fore-noon session is from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. andthe after-noon session is from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. Those who have cleared all the prescribed papers at theend of each year, will have only one examination per day.
8. Qualitatively, the examinations conducted for the students of Institute of Distance Education are on par with theexaminations conducted for the regular College students.
9. The ID card issued by the Institute should be produced at the Examination Centre both for obtaining the hallticket and for taking the examinations. No other ID card will be accepted for taking the examinations.
10. Even though the students are registered for the courses under English / Tamil Medium according to their choiceindicated in the Admission Application form, students are permitted to write their examinations either in Tamil orEnglish irrespective of their choice of medium of instruction at the time of admission.
11. Students, who have arrears of paper, after the completion of the duration of the course of study, may alsosubmit the examination application form to clear their arrear papers within the last date indicated above alongwith the prescribed examination fees.

2. Attendance for the Personal Contact Programme Ten days is compulsory in each year. Candidates who did not attend thePersonal Contact programmes and did not earn the necessary certificate of attendance and progress will not be permitted toregister for the examinations. Those who did not attend the above mentioned programme fully have to compensate by attendingthe above programmes in the subsequent years with the permission of the Director by paying prescribed fees as per theUniversity rules.
3. The Fee prescribed for the examination are as follows :
5. Candidates appearing for the examination for the first time (each year) should pay the fees for all the papers.6. Candidates will be permitted for paperwise registration only for subsequent appearance.7. TUITION FEES SHOULD NOT BE REMITTED ALONG WITH THE EXAMINATION FEES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.8. The University had made arrangements with the SBI/Indian Bank to collect all fees payable to the Institute in the form of challan
WITHOUT ANY SERVICE CHARGE. Hence the students are hereby requested to fill in the SBI/Indian Bank three part challanand pay the same in any one of the nearest branches of the SBI , Indian Bank.
9. Candidates who are unable to appear for the examination in any of the papers for which he/she has registered in May/ Nov.examinations as the case may appear for such papers in the subsequent examinations as and when they are held further.However, the examination fees once paid cannot be refunded in any manner under any circumstances or adjusted for thesubsequent examinations or for any other purpose.
10. If a candidate has been granted any exemption from appearing for any paper or papers furnish full particulars in the appropriatecolumn and also enclose a photostat copy of the communication received from the Institute in this regard.
11. The last date for receipt of filled in application is Notified on the top of this application form. No application will be entertainedunder any circumstances after the last date. They should take into account the postal delays that are likely to occur duringtransit. Hence, the candidates are advised not to wait till the last date and arrange to forward their application to the Institutemuch earlier.

12. Filled-in application is to be forwarded to the Director, Institute of Distance Education. University of Madras: IDEBuilding. Chepauk, Chennai - 600 005 by registered post with acknowledgment due with following. (i) AddressSlips (Neatly Written) (ii) Computer Coding Sheet (iii) SBI / Indian bank Challan for examination for(iv) SBI / Indian Bank Challan for Tuition fees.
13. The examinations are likely to be held during the months of May/Nov. every year.14. The detailed Time-table for the Examination and notification with regard to the “Examination Centre” will be sent
individually by post about before the commencement of the examinations. The Examination centre Notification willalso be posted in the IDE Website “www.ideunom.ac.in” and published as advertisement notification in leadingdailies.
15. Candidates are asked to collect their Hall-Tickets for the examination from the Chief Superintendent of the ExaminationCentre assignment to him/her, during three working days before the commencement of the first day of the examinationsby producing His/Her Identity Card issued by the Institute. No other Identity Card will be entertained for the purpose.No candidate is allowed to collect the Hall Ticket on the day of the Examinations on any account. Hall Tickets willnot be sent to the Candidates address under any circumstances.
16. Candidates should keep the Hall-Tickets with them safely until he / she completes the whole examination and shouldbe produced along with his / her Identity Card on each and every session of the examination.
17. Without the Identity Card no candidate will be allowed to write the examinations. Candidates who lost his/herIdentity Card should report to the Director, immediately to obtain Duplicate Identity Card Duplicate Hall-Ticketswill be issued to Candidates on Payment of prescribed fee of Rs. 100/-
18. Any discrepancy found in the Statement of Marks received from this office should be brought to the noticeof the Additional Controller of examination, Institute of Distance Education within 15 days from the date ofreceipt of the same for necessary further action.
19. The candidates are permitted to apply for revaluation of papers irrespective of their appearance within thestipulated period of course. The prescribed fees for revaluation for each paper is Rs.750/- No refund ofamount will be entertained, if applied for ineligible subjects including PROJECT.
20. Candidates who have failed/Not passed in any paper/s should appear for such papers in the subsequent Examinationto qualify for the degree.
21. The Results of the Candidates who have arrears of Tuition Fees/Exam Fee, etc. will be withheld. Such candidatesshould contact the Director, I.D.E. and clear off the dues “No fee Due” certificate should be obtained and producedto the Additional Controller of Examinations, I.D.E. to release their results.
22. The Name/Enrolment Number/Subject/Subject Code/Questiona Paper No./ Date of Examination should be writtenlegibly by the candidate in the appropriate place provided in the Main Answer Book. The Enrolment Number shouldnot be written in any of the inner page of the Main Books on any account.
23. No incriminating materials can be carried inside the examination Hall.24. Candidate are expected to be in their seats 10 minutes before the schedule time of the examinations.25. Candidates whose admissions are cancelled by the Director, I.D.E./not earned minimum attendance need not apply of
the examination under any circumstances. If they do so the examination taken by them will be cancelled. Suchcandidates will be allowed to appear for the examination only on production of re-admission intimation obtained fromthe Director, I.D.E. on payment of Re-admission fees etc.
26. Any queries regarding his/her examination (MNA cases) Marks not available case has to be made within one monthfrom the date of publications of results as the office will preserve his/her answer scripts for a maximum period of sixmonths only for the purpose. No queries will be entertained from the candidate after this period at anycircumstances.
27. Any discrepancy found in the Computerized Hall Ticket with regard to Subject code for which She/He hasregistered for the Examination should bring to the notice of the Additional Controller of Examinations,Institute of Distance Education for further action.
