Props play an important part in making a storyline to a film look realistic. The props are goingto use in our opening sequence for the large majority of the time are going to be everyday things which everybody from all backgrounds will see in a household. These items include things such as scissors and books. We have carefully chosen the following items so that the audience are going to be able to relate to the props that are featured in the opening sequence.

The first prop we are going to be using is an old book. The prop is going to be used by a dirty hand which is turning the pages very angrily in a book to make the audience feel scared about what the hand is doing and more importantly, which character the mystery hand belongs to. The concept of the hand turning the pages very angrily makes the audience aware that the character is very unsettled and that something bad is going to happen within the film as somebody had made the character sad or angry. This prop is used as it is a common house hold item which members of the audience will be able to recognise the book. This item is going to be used to make the audience question what the topic of the book is going to be about and will also make the audience think about the significance of the book to the opening sequence. This links in with the genre of the opening sequence, being a Psychological Thriller as the idea of mysterious person being disruptive is mysterious and freighting for the audience.

Another prop that we are going to be using is a pair of scissors. Scissors are commonly known as household objects and can be used for a variety of different things. However, scissors can be very sharp and can show signs of danger if they are used in the incorrect way such as trying to hurt somebody with them. This has an effect on the audience as it makes the audience feel on edge when the scissors are shown in the shot as the audience are led to believe that the scissors are going to hurt or kill somebody as the connotations of a stereotypical Psychological Thriller say so. The scissors are going to be chopping up photographs of people within the world that the opening sequence is set. This also links in with the idea of mystery as the audience are not aware of who the people are in the photographs and what their relevance is to the storyline, making the audience want to know more about the characters in the photographs.

The red paint that we are going to be using for one of our props is one of the most important props. The red paint is going to be used to cross out the eyes and faces of the people in the photographs. The red paint is also going to be used on the hands of the protagonist and this is going to be used as an effective way. The red paint is symbolic as the colour red has the connotations of death, blood and danger which is a very good way to represent and show the audience the protagonist and then the audience will be able to relate the red paint with the photographs and the people being related to the protagonist in some kind of way. The red paint is going to leave the audience with a clear idea of the protagonist and some idea of what the protagonist is going to do in the rest of the film.

Using a marker is one of the props that we need to use the most as it will help us make the audience aware of the logo or main symbol that is going to be used within the entire opening sequence. The marker will be used to scribble the logo onto a piece of paper that will be hanging on a tree. The colour of the marker will be black and the colour black has connotations of death and pain so it will make the audience question the relevance of the colour and question what the symbol stands for and make the audience want to continue watching the rest of the opening sequence and film to find out what the symbol is and what the symbol stands for.
