BackgroundUnicodeincludestwosetsofArabichonorifics,onesetascombiningmarksatU+0610..U+0614(mostlyforuseinPakistan,proposedinL2/01-425),andanothersetatU+FDF0..U+FDF2(allaroundtheMuslimworld).Buttheencodedsetisfarfromcomplete.SomeofthecharacterproposedherearemostlyusedbythePersian-andArabic-speakingShi’aMuslimsinIranandIraq,whileothersarecommonamongtheSunniandShi’aacrosstheworld.Theusercommunityhasbeenusinghackedfontsorimagesinordertorepresentthemissingones,orwhenmissingfonts,usingparenthesizedabbreviations.Severalvariationsinglyphshapeexistamongtheproposedcharacters,buttheyareinterchangeable,andwouldallrefertothesamesemanticswhentheunderlyingphraseisthesame.
