About old age home

The Indian family has traditionally provided natural

social security to the old people by their families.

However, in more recent times due to break down of

joint families and modern living style, the traditional

role of the family is being shared by the institutions

named as anOLD AGE HOME.

Reasons why elders choose to stay in an old age home

Due to the following reasons elderly people choose to

stay in an old age home:

Disagreement and conflict with sons and

daughters-in-law.

Maladjustment with the family members which

leads them to stay in a corner of the house intears.

Seeking spiritual development in later life.

Children have no time to take care of them as it creates an atmosphere of tension and uneasiness

in the family.

To avoid conflict and domestic quarrels at home.

Children of the elderly do not object and express no sadness at the decision of their parents toreside in old age home.

Elderly people feel that they had been driven out of the family.

Advantages of staying in an old age home

Residents in the old age home do not experience social isolation, desolation, social loneliness

and emotional loneliness.

They will be engaged in different activities of the old age

home in overcoming loneliness, which improves their

health and enhances their self esteem.

In an old age home, they meet new friends (co-residents)

of their age and share their experiences.

Residents will have self respect and lead a satisfactory and peaceful life without being a burden

on their families.

Residents are in constant touch with their

family members. Their children can visit them often oras per their convenience. Sometimes they call up their

parents and ask about their health.

Even the residents themselves visit their children quite often. This shows that both the elderly

residents and their children have not severed their relations with each other, though they found

it difficult to stay together.

They feel happy when their grand children call them or visit them. The constant contact with

the family members is one of the factors why they do not feel social loneliness. They also do

not experience desolation or isolation.

Trust Registration

The Trust has been registered on 11/08/2010 in the Sub Registrar Office atShimoga - 577201, Karnataka State India, under the registration number;

SMG-4-00169-2010-11 and the CD No. SMGD100

(After registering the Trust, we came to know that it was 20 years back dreamof Late Rev. Fr. Jerome Fernandez to have an old age home in Shimoga.He was the parish priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shimoga, and Karnataka

India.)

How JEHOHANAN Old Age Home conceived

Since childhood, I was close to my grandparents and havea soft corner towards elders. I have seen people around andhow they are neglected at their old age. Since then, I

always wished to do something for them.

In August 2008, I decided to dedicate myself to serve the

destitute old people. But never knew when and how this

will be possible, I just started praying for it.

On 23rd September 2009, I got a dream and in that a

sentence scrolled;

Congratulations! You have won Gods call. God is calling you to do His work.

I believe that God has called me in writing to do this project. Since then, I started discerning on thisdivine call and by everyones prayers and elders blessings I got the grace to reach so far.

Our Aim

Is to help the lonely, neglected, destitute and abandoned poor elderly.

Many among them must have spent their life in earning for their children and now they are left out or

may be they must have lost what they had.

We would like to provide 3 times warm food, shelter, medical

help and love them the most and equip them for eternity.

We will charge the elderly who can afford to pay and free stay

to destitute and abandoned elders.

Giving them joy and happiness and bringing smile on their

faces and provide them the following;

A comfortable stay.

Keep them busy with daily activities like the following;

Morning exercise

Meditation / yoga

Prayer / quite moments in the chapel / reading

daily scriptures

Weekly confession and Holy Mass

Reading / watching television / listening to

music

Indoor games (our children are gifted with the talent to keep them busy with indoor

games and other entertaining activities).

Evening walk in the garden.

Reciting rosary together etc.....

Giving them Love which they are missing from

their families.

Make them feel young by asking theirchildhood and most happy moments.

Involving them in daily spiritual activities and

educate them for eternity.

Help them in communicating with their family and clear misunderstanding if any.

Also help them in getting their benefits from the government as senior citizens.

Our requirements

We need sponsors for the following;

1. 10 Acres of landwill be used as follows;

Building construction to accommodate 250 elders. To grow vegetables for day to day consumption. Gardening. Cultivation / poultry / cattle / sheep/ fish breed, by

which we can use for our daily use and also can, raise income to run the old age home.

2. Construction workas follows:

3. Other facility as follows:

About me in brief

I am Pushpa Margaret, (Managing Trustee) born and brought up in Shimoga and married in 1995 toMr. Donald Anthony James from Lakkavalli, Chickmagalur district, Karnataka.

At present I am working with Exalto Emirates LLC, Sharjah UAE, as an Executive Accountant. I

have resigned my blessed and well paid job. I will be working until Nov 30 th of this year, so that I can

go back to India in December and dedicate myself and concentrate on this divine project.

My husband works for Emirates Airlines since 1991. We have two daughters Priya Donna and Patricia

Donnica, aged 13 and 9 to whom we home school them since last year. Meaning, they do not go to

traditional school instead we teach them at home.

We use Catholic Heritage Curricula as their academics (www.chcweb.com). We believe that educationmeans, to teach them to live as a good human being and educate them for eternity. As they grow, wewill know their interest in their career and we will focus on it. They will involve in all the activities of

the old age home completely besides their studies. We are inspired by the below scripture on our home

schooling;

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your

mind (Romans 12:2)

Our faith

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and

widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)

We are strong in our faith and do believe that the Lord who called us to do this work will fight for us in

all our trials and troubles.

The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still (Exodus 14:14)

God protected Noah and his family among unrighteous people by destroying the ancient world. Also

God gave an example by burning Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes and rescued Lot the righteous man.

If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous

for the day of judgment (2 Peter 2:9)
