A YOUNG LEADERSHIP BOARD EVENT

Stand Up for Downtown Theater "

The inaugural fundraising event of the Young Leadership Board will showcase some of the area’s top comedians performing their best stand-up routines, including headliner Michael Longfellow and host Gabe Biel. The event will feature a silent auction and dinner provided by Sierra Bonita Grill.

Proceeds from the event will support the Herberger Theater’s Arts Education and Outreach programs, including Wolf Trap and Multicultural Theater Camp.

Through the Wolf Trap program the Herberger Theater, in collaboration with Center Dance Ensemble, brings artists into Head Start and preschool classrooms to ensure all children have access to performing arts that build confidence and self-esteem while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Multicultural Theater Camp is a collaboration with Free Arts for Abused Children that provides an opportunity for homeless, abused and neglected teens living in group homes and shelters throughout Maricopa County to create and experience the arts through a two-week theater camp at the Herberger Theater Center.

The Herberger Theater Center has established the Young Leadership Board, a semi-autonomous civic organization of area professionals with an interest in promoting the Herberger Theater and the broader Phoenix arts community. "The mission of the Young Leadership Board is twofold:"

1. To raise awareness and foster growth for the Herberger Theater and its programs through the support and input of young professionals; and "

2. To help raise funds for the Herberger Theater to support its various performing arts outreach programs and ensure that the Herberger Theater remains financially accessible to local theater groups and the general public. "

To accomplish these goals, the Young Leadership Board is responsible for annual fundraising efforts and outreach events, while also serving as an outlet for Valley young professionals to assist in the Theater’s future growth. The Young Leadership Board also provides a platform for professional development through civic involvement, networking, and mentorship opportunities.

The Herberger Theater Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to support and foster the growth of performing arts in Phoenix as the premier performance venue, arts incubator and advocate. The Herberger Theater was built in 1989 to support and foster the performing arts in Phoenix. Each year the venue hosts approximately 120,000 patrons, including 10,500 school-aged children. Currently home to two resident companies, Arizona Theatre Company and Center Dance Ensemble, the Herberger Theater Center is also used several times each season by Valley Youth Theatre and iTheatre Collaborative.
