    Dua to be recited in the morning

    The morning has come to me and the whole universe belongsto Allah, the Lord of the worlds, O Allah, I ask of you thegood of the day, it's success and aid and it's nur (celestiallight) and barakaat (blessings) and seek hidayah (guidance)and seek refuge from the evil in it (this day) and from the evilof that which is to come later.

    Alternatively, recite this dua

    O Allah we enter the day time and the evening and die with

    your Qudrat (power) and to You do we return.

    Other supplications to be recited in the morning & eveningsUthman (R.A.) reported that Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.)has said that (nothing will harm) the servant who recites thesewords three times every morning and evening.

    We have made (started) the morning (and night) in whose

    Name nothing in the skies and the earth can harm and He isthe All-hearing, the All-knowing.

    It is narrated by Abu Dawood that if one recites this dua in themorning, no unforeseen calamity will come to him.

    (Miskhat)

    Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) said that if a person recitesthree ayats of Surah Rum (Para 21) and if he misses hisnormal recitation of the day, he will still be rewarded for it.This applies to the night as well.

    "So remember Allah in the evening and the morning. To himis the praise in the Heavens and the Earth and in the last hoursand when it is noon. He brings forth the living from the deadand the dead from the living and He revives the earth after itis dead. And even so you shall be brought forth".

    Abu Huraira (R.A) narrated that Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) said that whosoever reads the beginning of SurahMo'min (para 24) and Ayatul-Qursi in the morning, then hewill be protected from calamaties and ploys till the eveningand whosoever recites these in the evenings, will be protectedfrom calamities and ploys till the morning.

    "Ha. Meem, The sending down of this book is from Allahwho is the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing, The Forgiver of sinsand the Acceptor of repentance, Severe in retribution,Bountiful there is no ilah but He, Unto Him is our return".

    Allah! There is no ilah (deity worthy of worship) but He TheLiving, The Eternal One. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtakesHim. To Him belonges whatever is in the Heavens and on theearth. Who is he that can intercede with Him but by His

    permission? He knows what is before and what is behindthem. They encompass nothing of His knowledge which Hewill. His Throne extends over the Heavens and the Earth, andthe preservation of both does not weary Him. He is theExalted The Immense One.

    (Qur'an 3:25)

    Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) stated that a person who hasrecited (the underlying) in the morning, he has pleased(praised, glorified) Allah for His favours of the morning, andif he has done so in the night, he has thanked Allah for Hisfavours of the night.

    Translation: "O Allah, whatever favours You have bestowedupon me and all other creations is only from you. You areOne, You have no partners. Praise and Shukr (thanks) be toYou".

    If recited in the night, then recite in place of Thuban (R.A.) narrated that Prophet Mohammad (SAW)stated that if a Muslim servant recites (the underlying) threetimes every morning, then it becomes the responsibility of Allah to satisfy him on the Day of Qiyamah.

    Muagal bin Yasaar (R.A.) narrates that Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) has stated that a person who recites three times

    in the morning the last three ayats of Suratul Hashr then Allah

    delegates 70,000 angles to send mercy onto him till theevening and if he dies that day, he will die as a martyr and if he recites these in the evening then Allah delegates 70,000angels to send mercy onto him till the morning and if he diesthat night, he dies as martyr.

    Ataa bin Abi Rahaa (R.A.) narrates that Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) has stated that if a person recites Surah Yaseen early

    in the morning then his need for the day will be fullfilled.

    Benefit: The recitation of Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq andSurah Naas three times each in the mornings and evenings,has been encouraged in the Ahadith.

    Supplications to be recited at night

    Abdullah bin Masood (R.A.) states that Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) has said that the person who recites Suratul Waqia(para 27) every night, will never be poverty stricken (hungry)(Baihagi in Shabatul Iman)

    Uthman (R.A.) states that a person who recites from

    in Surah Al-Imran till the end of the Surah on any night or

    part of the night, will receive the reward of performing hisSalaat for the whole night.

    Jabir (R.A.) states that Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) never slept before reciting Surah Alif Laam Meem Sajda (21 para)and Surah Tabarakal Lazi.

    Abdullah bin Masood (R.A.) narrates that ProphetMohammad (S.A.W.) has stated that the person who recitesthe last two ayats of Suratul Baqarah till the end, then thesetwo ayats will be sufficient for him, i.e. Allah will protect himfrom all evil and ploys.

    When retiring to sleep, make wudhu, dust off the bed threetimes, lie on the right side, place the right hand under the heador cheeks and recite the following dua three times.

    "O Allah, save me from the punishment on the Day when Youwill gather Your servants".

    Alternatively recite this dua

    "Oh my Lord, I have taken Your name and placed myself onmy side and by Your power will rise up again. If you take mysoul whilst I am sleeping (grant me death) then have mercy onmy soul and if you leave me (let me live) by your power

    protect me by that with which you have protected your righteous servants".

    "I submit my life to you, I turn towards You and leave mywork unto you, I lean on you, desire your boons and fear youas there is no other salvation besides you. I believe in thekitab (Book) you have revealed and in the Rasul(Prophet) youhave sent.

    Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) showed (taught a Sahabi) thisdua and said: "If after reading it you die in the night, then it isas if you have died on 'Natural Deen' and if you awake in themorning alive then you will have good fortune".

    Anas (R.A.) narrates that Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) saidthat if a person retires to bed on the side and recites SurahFathiha and Surah Ikhlaas (Qul huwa- Allaho Ahad) he isimmune from everything besides death.

    Sahabi (R.A.) requested Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) thatProphet Mohammad (S.A.W.) teach him something to reciteat the time of retiring to bed. Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.)said: "Recite Qul Ya Ayuhal Kafiroon, for in it (there is anannouncement) to refrain from shirk.

    In some ahadith it is stated that one should sleep after reciting(i.e. not to talk after reciting it).

    Ayesha (R.A.) narrates that when Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) used to go to the room for sleep, he used to reciteSuras Ikhlaas, Falaq, Nass and blow onto his hand (palms) insuch a manner that the saliva would drop on them and then hewould rub them over his body three times starting from thefront of the face.

    Beside this he would recite

    He also used to recite Ayatul Qursi as Allah has stipulatedthat the reciter will be protected throughout the night by theangels and the Satan will not come near.

    Also recite this dua three times

    Its virtues are that all the reciter's sins will be forgiven even if it be equal to the extent of the foam in the ocean.

    Recite Bismillah while closing doors, covering utensils, and putting off the light (candles etc.)

    Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) said that when a person entershis bed (to sleep), an angel and a Shaitaan surround him. TheShaitaan whispers 'your awakening will end in evil' and theangel says' end in good". One sleeps after engaging in dhikr,the angels will protect him throughout the night. In order togain the protection of the angels, it is wise to engage in Dhikr and then sleep.

    At the time of difficulty when Sleeping

    To be recited when having difficulty obtainingsleep

    "O Allah the stars have gone far away and the eyes are rested.

    You are Alive and Infinite, You do not slumber nor does sleepovertake You. Oh Alive and the Everlasting One, grant merest tonight and let my eyes sleep (close).

    Upon having a nightmare, recite:

    With the total words of Allah, I seek protection from Hiswrath, from His punishment and from the servants evil andfrom the whispers of Satan and I seek protection from (these)coming to me.

    understanding (So that the companion does not interpret thedream badly). If a person has a bad dream, then spit threetimes over the left shoulder and turn to the other side or standup to perform Salaat reciting the following dua three times:

    "I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan and from theevil of this dream. "The dream will not cause any harm.(Misjkat, Hisnul Hasin)

    It is a great sin to conjure a false dream and narrate it.

    On awakening from sleep

    On awakening from sleep recite this dua:

    All praise be to Allah, who gave us life after killing us (sleep" is a form of death) and to Him will we be raised andreturned".

    "All Praise be to Allah, who raises the dead to life and Who isin control of everything".

    On rising for Tahajjud recite

    "O Allah, All Praise be to You, You are the Creator of all thatis between the skies and the earth, Praise be to You for Youlight all that is between the skies and the earth. Praise be toYou for You are the owner of all that is between the skies andthe earth and praise be to You for You are Haqq (truth). Your

    promise is Haqq, and your meeting is Haqq, Your words areHaqq, Jannah and Jahannam are Haqq, All Nabies are Haqq,Muhammad is Haqq, and Qiyamah is Haqq. O Allah, I submitin obedience to You, believe in You and rely on You and turntowards You and with Your might I fought (the enemy) andmade You the judge. Forgive my future and past sins, hiddenand open sins and those sins of which you know of more thanmyself: You are the beginning and the end You are the Only

    one worthy of worship and no one besides You is worthy of worship.

    And look towards the sky and recite the whole of the lastRuku of Surah Al-Imran till the end of the Surah and also:

    On hearing the Athan

    Upon hearing the Athan, recite:

    "I testify that there is no one worthy of worship besides Allah.He is all by Himself and has no partner and I testify thatMuhammad (S.A.W.) is His servant and Rasul. I am pleasedwith Allah as my Lord, Muhammad (S.A.W.) as my Rasuland Islam as my Deen. It is stated in the hadith that the sins of a person are forgiven if the above dua is recited on hearing theathaan.

    Upon hearing the Muazzin give Athan

    Reply to the Muazzin It is stated in the Ahadith that whosoever answers the muazzinthere is Jannah for him.

    At the end of the athaan recite Durood then

    "O Allah, the Lord of this total call (invitation, proclamation)and the Lord of the Salat to begin, grant Muhammad'intercession' ( a status) and grant him superiority and let himreach Mooqame Mahmood which You have promised, for definitely You do not go back on Your promises".

    By reciting this dua, the intercession of Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) becomes wajib.

    Note: The reply to the Iqamat is the same as the reply to theathaan, except that when hearing:

    -stand up for Salaat, recite:

    Allah keep (Salaat) perpetual".

    After the fard Salaat recite the following while rubbing theright hand on the forehead:

    "In the name of Allah, (I have completed the Salaat) who isthe only one worthy of worhsip and who is the Most Merciful,the Most Gracious. O Allah remove from me all worries andsorrows".

    Then recite Astaghfirullah thrice and recite the following:

    "O Allah, You are safe, and from You we receive safety. Youare Blessed, Lofty and Dignified".

    a. "Besides Allah, there is no one worthy of worship, He is all

    by Himself and has no partner. His is the Kingdom, to Him isall praise and He has control over everything".

    b. "O Allah, no one can stop what You give and no one can

    give what You stop and the wealth of the wealthy cannot prevent Your punishment".

    (Mishkat)

    c. "O Allah, I seek refuge from cowardice, miserliness andchildness in old age, from the trials of this world and

    punishment of the grave".

    (Bukhari)

    d. "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from Kufr, poverty and the

    punishment of the grave".

    e. "O Allah, forgive my past and future sins and those sinswhich took place knowingly or unknowngly and forgive mefor exceeding the limits and those that You know more thanme. You are the beginning and the end and besides You thereis no one else worthy of worship".

    f. "O Allah, help me so that I can make your Dhikr, glorifyYou and worship You properly".

    g. Note:It is stated in the hadith that the person who recites AyatulQursi after every Salaat, death is the only barrier for him

    between him and Jannah.

    (Behaqi in Sahbatul Iman)

    h. Uqba bin Amr (R.A.) states that Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) ordered him to recite the Muwoozhita (i.e. the four Quls) after every fard Salaat.

    After every Salaat recite SubhanAllah 33 times,Alhamdulillah 33 times and Allahu Akbar 34 times.

    Many virtues are recorded in the Ahadith regarding therecitation of the above.

    This is one method. The other method is to recite

    The third method is to recite SubhanAllah 25 Alhamdulillah25 times and Allahu Akbar 25 times. (All the above arenarrated in Mishkat)

    his colleagues that they will be able to stay there and also getfood.

    Before rising from a gathering

    Recite:

    O Allah, You are pure, I praise You and testify that there is" none worthy of worship besides You. I seek forgiveness and

    pardon from You". If there was good talk in the gathering,this dua will seal it and if there was futile and vain talk, thenthis dua will recompense for it.

    "May peace and Allah's blessing be on you as well".

    If the words ,are not added in the greetingthen the reply is valid but when the related words areincreased, the reward also increases. Once, a person enteredthe court of Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) and said

    Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) replied to the salaam and saidthat he had received ten rewards. The another greeted

    Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) replied to the salaam and saidthat he had received twenty rewards. The another greeted

    Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) replied to the salaam and saidthat he had received 30 rewards. Thereafter another personcame and greeted and

    Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) replied to the salaam and said

    that he had received 40 rewards and stated that as a rule thatthe reward increases in this manner.

    Return a greeting with at least the same amount of words withwhich the greeting one used. It is best that the amount of words is increased in the reply.

    If a Muslim sends salaams to another, it should returned inthis manner

    Muslim brethren should shake hands with salaams. ProphetMohammad (S.A.W.) stated that if two Muslims meet and

    These words were spoken by Ali (R.A.) taught by ProphetMohammad (SAW.) when a person expressed a shortfall inhis wealth to Ali (R.A.) he said: "Shall I not show you whatProphet Mohammad (SAW) taught me, even if there is a debtequal to that of a huge mountain then Allah will pay it". Ali(R.A.) then recited the above dua.

    Another dua for payment of debtAbu Saeed Kudri (R.A.) narrates that once a personmentioned to Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) that he wasconcerned about his major debts. Prophet Mohammad(SAW.) replied "Shall I not show you those words by sayingwhich Allah will remove your concern and pay your debts?"The person asked "What is it, O Messenger of Allah?"Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) told him to recite the followingmorning and evening:

    Sayed-ul-Istighfaar (The leader of the duas of forgiveness),Shudaat bin Auwais Aas (R.A.) narrates that ProphetMohammad (SAW.) said that Sayed Istighfaar is:

    "O Allah, You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship

    besides You, You have created me and I am Your servant, Iam Your pact and promise, I seek refuge in You to the best of my ability from my evil sins. I testify to Your favours and tomy sins, hence forgive me since there is no one else to forgivesins besides You".

O Allah, Idesire (seek) that which makes Your mercy compulsory andthe things that necessitate Your forgiveness, and portion of every good and safety from every sin. O Allah, in Your knowledge if this work is good for me in this Duniya and theAkhirah (hereafter), then let it be for me, grant me blessingsin it and if it is bad for me then keep it far away from me andgrant me any destiny that will make me happy".

    Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) said that by reciting this duaseven times, the ill person will regain his health and if deathoccurs then that (death) is a different issue (i.e. death iswritten it cannot be prevented).

    Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) said that if an ill person recites

    the following dua forty times and dies in that illness, he will be rewarded as a martyr and if he regains his health, all hissins will be forgiven:

    Once a scorpion bit Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) while hewas in Salaat. On completion of the Salaat he said: "Curse beon the scorpion as it does not leave the person performingSalaat nor anyone else". He then asked for water and salt anddissolved that salt in the water. He rubbed the solution on thewound and kept reciting Surah-al-Kaafiroon, Falaq and Naas.
