Local InformationAll Other Searches Combined
Bing estimates that 50% of the total searches done on Bing
Mobile are for LOCAL information or have “LOCAL intent”.
Local-based search is expected to increase as mobile phone use increases. By 2014, more people will access the internet by mobile device than by computer.
Local search is so popular, Google created a special
platform for it called Google Places.
There is also a Google Places app for Android, iPhone, and Blackbery
to locate attractions and businesses nearby the
mobile user.
Google Places displays geo-specific search results for certain
search queries.
Unlike the phone book, Google doesn't list businesses
alphabetically. Instead it finds the most relevant results to the
searcher's query.
In order to be on the first page of Google you need to prove to Google that you're the most relevant search result for a searcher's query.
